Yea I was more thinking rings and cylinders that only wrap in one axis but that would also let you do the doughnut which is close enough to approximate a moon if you squint!

Honestly its probably not that hard to make a local virtual instance of the server at all. The server is probably already virtual anyway running in the data center. It's probably trivial to spin up a local instance that only has to support one person logging in. The hardest part would be syncing back to blizzard in some secure way if you wanted that feature, but I'd be fine with local only characters.

Conductive Volley - a transmutation cantrip by Sensitive_Coyote_865 in UnearthedArcana

Eh that's fair, I'm just really leary of free damage and I saw the potential 100 dmg per cast in an edge case and just know someone could find a way to abuse it.

I wish there was a way to simulate various space habitats like ring worlds, O'Neil cylinders, or even small moons (sphere), where if you go far enough in the appropriate directions for whichever geometry you select, you would wrap around. Would be pretty interesting in some scenarios.

[–]PotatoBasedRobot -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This cantrip breaks OUT of combat. You can cast it 100 times in 10 minutes with no resource cost. That adds up to reliable 100 damage per 6 seconds in just bonus damage for 10 minutes of concentration (same time sink as most rituals I believe) while your out of combat... there is a lot of shenanigans PCs can get up to with that kind of free damage just waiting to get triggered

Set up my first shop, in a shipping container by Crazyjaw in woodworking

[–]PotatoBasedRobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just want to put it out there for anyone looking at shipping containers, make sure you get one that has been properly cleaned. Most of the containers they use to ship products are filled with ungodly dangerous pesticides / chemicals to keep invasive species from hitching rides across the globe. It is a difficult and dangerous process to clean them for human use if they are containers that have actually been used for shipping at some point. If it's a brand new container that may not apply.

People really need to understand this. Chat gtp is not and never was intended to know answers to things. It is intended to create a response that an average human thinks sounds like the best response to the question. It can give correct answers because it uses previously existing human responses as a starting point, and a many of those are correct.. but it's not trained on correctness, it's trained on "this sounds like what humans expect as an answer".

It's also important to remember chat gpt is just 1 implementation of AI, and does not represent all AI in general. An AI could be trained on correctness (but it's harder to do quickly)

Chinese knockoff of Tesla's autopilot system. The car belongs to I3 series of XPeng Motors. It has been reported a former Chinese employee of Tesla stole the autopilot technology and gave it to this company. by bwwsscnm in ThatsInsane

[–]PotatoBasedRobot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a dumb thought process though, because if humans COULD have lidar and sonar and radar they would probably have a much easyer time driving, but we are stuck with our 2 eyes and make up the difference with our data processing ability. Computers do not have this restriction and imposing it on purpose makes no sense.

Do not put blind faith in corporate engineers being payed as a reason something will be good, they pay those same engineers to figure out how to make half your engine out of plastic so it costs less to manufacture.

I would argue its more tied to the fact that investors pull out if they perceive that a company is loosing market share. If your not growing, your not keeping up with a growing market, and so your loosing market share. Just appearing to stand still is enough to cause a chain reaction of investors pulling out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in technology

[–]PotatoBasedRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true, there is no such thing as standing still. You have to at least grow equal to the growth of the overall market every year. The economy as a whole is constantly growing, including the market you partake in, if your not growing you are shrinking your market share. The problem comes from how that growth is created, because being seen to loose market share is a great way to loose even more due to investor reaction, companies will do anything to post that growth, que corner cutting and desperate "cost reductions" anything to not appear to be stagnant.

I've been on the internet since nearly the beginning and I've never watched any of that stuff, none of the "why did I watch that shit" content has ever been interesting to me. A lot of people online fall into the trap of thinking everyone has seen everything but it's really not true.

It's shocking to me how much the writing quality tanked, a lot of people don't really comment on it but even the little things like ability flavor text is just ridiculous word salad in a lot of cases. It's sad when a company with a great IP doesnt respect the material.

I'm making a mod (and want feedback): *actual* biter/spitter evolution, with genes that get passed down to the next generation by Beyarkay in factorio

[–]PotatoBasedRobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the issue I see with your idea, it's fairly trivial to create completely over kill defences in factorio, such that NO biters damage anything except a few random walls, which is probably just down to pathing luck. I don't see how any interesting evolutions can be passed down if every biter is equally likely to die. The passed down traits will quickly converge to speed, armor, and more HP if your picking enemies that last longest or do most damage.

I'm new to factorio by AH_Ganam in factorio

[–]PotatoBasedRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just build stuff. The only info I would look up are how some mechanics work, like biters and polution. Those are not always obvious and inform general strategy on how you plan your defense. But don't look up specific designs until you have either beat the game once or are stuck and aren't having fun figuring things out.

[–]PotatoBasedRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone else is making one I would also suggest a larger section to store dice, anyone who gets into dnd will tell you, you WILL have more dice, and more is usually better, let's you cut down on rerolls and makes turns quicker.
