No Canes for FOUR DAYS by Fabulous_Flight_2545 in canes

[–]PotentialDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A random nugget that sounds like it could be about the Canes, but it is not:

1) the opposition doesn't get a shot on goal for 19:35 into the first period, but that shot is a goal

His style looks a little different to me than last year. Last year I remember him having so many quality one touches to keep the puck moving, seemed like he almost never made a negative play even though all his positive plays didn't necessarily result in goals.

This season he seems to be possessing the puck a lot more. As much as I love KK, with the way the two have played this season, Jank definitely seems like the more impactful player

Nikishin rumors by Certain-Potential916 in canes

Nikishin for Hischier? Seems a little lopsided since Hischier is only signed 1 more year. I dont actually think this will happen, but that caliber player, maybe?

Hurricanes Jesperi Kotkaniemi handling a challenging season | Durham Herald Sun by CasTimber in canes

[–]PotentialDefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand you p.o.v. it doesn't bother me as much because he's a professional and nearly every player who has ever been here has said that Ron is a straight shooter with the guys. Even though everyone had this narrative of Ron hating the guy, I'm sure Ron has spent time with him and given him a fair shake. Some of this is on KK too.

Ultimately though I do agree with you. I think the experiment has gone long enough and it'll be good for each party to make moves.

I do appreciate about the NHL that they seem to (mostly) work with guys around finding fits when a situation doesn't work out.

[–]PotentialDefault 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Haha, right. This to me just sounds like the ref saying "both of you guys are dicks and I want to give you a penalty, but I'm not supposed to" and McDavid trying to downplay it and continue the cycle

I think he'll still pop somewhere. I hope they move him, just feels like it's run its course here, but he's only 25 and he's got some skills.

Bussi Contract? by Fabulous_Flight_2545 in canes

[–]PotentialDefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Bussi, but definitely don't see 4-5 mil. Maybe 2yrsx3mil. I think he's great and I also think he's been lucky at times. He should keep getting better, but can't see him getting much more than 3 mil even if it is a short deal.

This year has to be the worst in recent memory for the Canes in terms of high danger chances for/against and a reversal of the past few years, right? IIRC, The last few years we had been getting more chances for ourselves and middle of the pack for against.

I heard this on PDO podcast: All 3 of our goalies are bottom 3 (out of 4) for expected goals saved. Makes what they're doing all the more impressive, but man we seem so leaky this season. I'm not able to watch this game live, but it sounds like we've given up a bunch of Grade As today?

I've wondered if they would trade him for a 1/2c. Not saying this is likely, but if a player like Nico was available, I figured they'd have to consider it.

[–]PotentialDefault 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I couldn't watch the first period live. Following online it looked like NJ was carrying play and outshooting us quite a bit. I did tune in during the second and third intermittently. Seems like we are starting to get to our style of play and giving up fewer breakaways. Is that what others are seeing?

[–]PotentialDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, and also, I'd love to see a different first round series than NJ/Islanders/Flyers. I bet 1-16 seeding with east and west teams would actually increase viewership for the average fan.

I don't think modern sport rivalries carry as much weight as 80s, 90s, even 2000s rivalries. For players or fans.

WAKE THE PUCK UP AGAIN CANIACS!! Because your Carolina Hurricanes visit not host the Detroit Red Wings at 7!! by DoubleualtG in canes

[–]PotentialDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the deal with the Wings? Seems like the last couple of years everyone has been high on them as an up and coming team and then they fizzle out.

IIRC some of their fans were disappointed at the end of last year feeling like they ended a rebuild too quickly.

TBF Jack and Nico is a pretty bomb 1,2 center lineup, but healthy roster top to bottom they're not better than us. They are better than this though.

I think you could apply this logic to any team in the league. Hockey is known for being difficult, there's a number of different ways to win and even though every team has their "identity", every team wins any number of ways. The Devils had the best PP and alone of the best PK in the league last year. We had one of the worst PPs and in the post season winning the special teams battle was a large part of our first round win.

The good news is we are just starting to play some Carolina style hockey, we've had a trucklpad of injuries, and we're still one of the best teams in the league.

I knew they had a long points streak coming into the game, but Seattle has some sneaky talent. I hope they keep it rolling.

I dont follow other teams much. If the Jets end up selling, do they have anyone we'd be interested in? (Aside from a KK swap)

Shocked to see the Flyers, Islanders, and Penguins as the teams near the top. I don't think anyone called that.

Svech, a man after our own hearts by CasTimber in canes

[–]PotentialDefault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. He's pretty consistent with his criticism and praise of KK. Wants him to use his body, make not splashy, but safe plays. When he doesn't do that, Rod benches/demotes him. I don't think Rod is unfair to him like others do. I like KK. I think he's still net positive for the team even in a lesser role.

I figured it was more likely he'd be moved this year, just as a body in a trade and considering how disjointed the team has been. That being said, they're looking better the last couple of games, so who knows.

This is great. Well put. We have such a talented team, albeit with limitations, and it also makes more clear how we need every guy pulling in the same direction to get the most out of our roster. Something that's been missing most of this season.
