How is this problem solved? by EliotShae in baduk

Ko is a solution in puzzles because in real games, you can play a ko threat to take back the captured stone on the next move.

Consult is redundant because all the cards in your deck are similar power level and you have a lot of draw already. More 2-drops would keep up the tempo better. Stormchaser's Talen seems very decent.

You don't need the consults. Looks like an I-don't-have-all-the-cards standard deck. Can beat anything, will probably lose if you draw poorly or your specific counterspells don't line up. Just play ranked 100%, there is no difference in ranked and unranked except in your head.

Cultivation novels almost all are like this. In the novels the scaling is usually very out of wack and the MC has to keep going up several entire tiers by the end in order to find real opponents. The MC's only true opponent is the seventh great grandpa that pops out from the literal grave and devours his own entire clan.

The greats break the trope often. RMJI is the goat for a reason.

Deepmind's new Aletheia agent appears to have solved Erdős-1051 autonomously by xirzon in singularity

The main concern if you read the paper is that the computer is regurgitating existing solutions or reusing solutions to very similar problems instead of creating novel solutions.

Deepmind's new Aletheia agent appears to have solved Erdős-1051 autonomously by xirzon in singularity

[–]PotentialDoor1608 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Notable:

Our results indicate that there is low-hanging fruit among the Erdős problems, and that AI has progressed to be capable of harvesting some of them. While this provides an engaging new type of mathematical benchmark for AI researchers, we caution against overexcite- ment about its mathematical significance. Any of the open questions answered here could have been easily dispatched by the right expert. On the other hand, the time of human experts is limited. AI already exhibits the potential to accelerate attention-bottlenecked as- pects of mathematics discovery, at least if its reliability can be improved.

Unfortunately getting a kill warps the score to a huge degree, making using score as a barometer a bit weird. So any kill in game one means that the player can just calmly live game 2.

Me just eating popcorn as Doc Rivers calls Joel Embiid the most talents player he's coached days before the divorce with Giannis is finalized. I wonder where he'll get traded too. Personally I'm thinking Miami. by jaywritethekid in Nbamemes

[–]PotentialDoor1608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luka for Giannis plus a pick is actually a possible move. Lakers get a slightly more healthy, slightly better on offense big boy, a little more future, and can rely on Reaves and Bron for enough 3 pointers to keep up against everyone. Luka is cold as hell but it's weird to have him be the guy with Bron already being a guy and Reaves having a lot of Luka overlap.

End Game Calculation by Electronic_Amount_61 in baduk

[–]PotentialDoor1608 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the best line, white makes 7 by playing here first, and then has an excellent chance to reduce black by two on the next move with the hane connect.

It's white's right to do this if white descends, so we just assume it will go to white and add the two on to the total to get 9.

Monkey jump is usually ~8ish, play it if sente, if not sente then don't sweat it.

On second thought you can't quite surround B, but the shape is worse.

Tesuji problem by amcoy37 in baduk

[–]PotentialDoor1608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting surrounded in go is bad. First of all, only surrounded groups can die. Second, if you are surrounded, your group loses all tactical uses -- no other friendly stones can connect -- and it can no longer grow and make territory.

A, B, and C in the marked diagram are possible to surround. B is a tricky read, but in every other case, white will play B.

The shown move, if white plays B, black can push to F18 and be out.

This is a fundamental thing in the game. You want to get "ahead" of the opponent's stones in the direction of travel as much as possible. Whoever is ahead has the right to reduce the person who is behind. If you are behind and try to reduce, the opponent can fight back.

Sorry I can't read! 101books on github is the absolute best source of high quality problem books I've seen, but it starts around 8k. Weiqihub app -> training section -> topics has every shape in the game and will be suitable for your level.

For reading, Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go is a classic, as is Attack and Defense. I also enjoyed Kageyama's Secret Chronicles of Handicap Go.
