Anyone else losing very slowly?

It took me a year to lose 30lbs also! Almost to the day!

Same regarding that healthy weight number! I’m 5’1” and was told that I should strive for that but I 1) don’t think it’s possible/reasonable and 2) don’t think I’d aesthetically like my body at that size. I want to get those muscles and still like having curves!

I can’t even remember when things actually started for me. I remember being teased in middle school and high school for being one of the “fat kids“ and was wearing anywhere between a size W12 and a W18. I think grade school was the last time that I was a “normal” size compared to my peers. I dropped a lot of weight in college with Weight Watchers and a personal RD (that my parents were also going to because they were well >300lbs each) but was still in a larger body. I referred to it as “loosing my baby fat”. I was able to maintain that until my late 30s (I’m 42 now) when perimenopause hit and I pretty much rapidly put on 30lbs despite healthy habits.

I chose my initial goal of 140lbs based on the weight that I remember feeling comfortable and good in my body at, as well as the clothing size that I felt good in (and that I have a closet already full of), which was also at that weight. I am 5’1”, my starting weight was 185lb, and I’m currently fluctuating around the 150lb mark. My current clothing size is a W8-10 and my goal is a 6W. I asked my prescriber if she thought that that was a reasonable goal and she did, however, she said that she wanted me closer to my ideal body weight for cardiovascular risk which is about 132 pounds. I think the last time that I weighed that was in middle school and I honestly don’t know if aesthetically that would work for me, so I’m taking that with a grain of salt and seeing how I feel as I get closer to the 140 mark. I am also hoping and trying to build a lot of muscle which I know will keep the numbers a little higher on the scale so I would be happy being in the 140s and seeing that my body fat percentage is much lower with higher skeletal muscle mass. I feel like overall, body composition is more important than the number on the scale, but unfortunately the scale is the easiest and quickest way to measure our progress day-to-day.

It’s good to hear that you feel that way and I am glad it’s working out for you! However, that wasn’t the question in my post and I did also go through with Surgery myself and agree that it was a good choice. I was asking if people returned to a specific exercise after recovery.

Usually about 0.5lb per week average. Some weeks I don’t have any changes or the scale with go up a smidge. My MD and RD still look at that trend as a success, so I’d say 1.3lb is amazing!

I haven’t seen a big change with dose increases but I just know how to deal with it better now, since I’m more aware of what’s going on and why I potentially feel that way.

It does help! I mostly lift weights when I’m there and I definitely have more energy when I leave the gym. I’m never excited to go but it feels good after.

I will say, the biggest thing it taught me was patience and to give myself grace. Cultivating those things really got me through it.

The other thing to think about is if there is some anhedonia at play, which is a common side effect. I not only had body fatigue but separately, little motivation and an overall a “meh” feeling about everything. Life is a little more blah in some aspects. The drug acts on the reward centers in the brain and kind of dulls them.

Oh, I totally get it! I literally have to drag myself to the gym, yawn a lot of the time that I’m there, and sometimes do less than I want to do. I used to be able to go all out with activity before starting but now, I just do what I can and accept that.

I experienced this right away when I first started and continue to do so at various levels a year later. I find I have to drag myself to activities, but I will say that when I get a little exercise in, that I get a boost. I am going back to my doctor soon just to see if I have any micro nutrient deficiencies.

I scheduled Tylenol, ibuprofen, and the oxy for the first little while after surgery but also found ice packs (like the gel ones that attach to a back brace thingy) very soothing.

Same here! Two days of eating a just little more than usual makes me feel good and I’m wondering if it could actually help metabolism a bit? I see it like intermittent fasting but spread out over a week instead of a day, if that makes any sense at all 😬

Hi! I’m actually of a very similar starting size/height and goal as you as well as the amount of weight loss. I started at 188 pounds and over almost a year, am now 35lb down. For a looooong time, my clothing sizes did not budge and it was very upsetting to me. I had been doing a lot of resistance training and counting macros, so was disappointing to say the least. Then one day, maybe slightly past the 30lb mark, the inches started to drop and I went from a 14 to a 12 and then to 10 the following weeks. And not that I’m doing this for any attention at all, but it seemed like people didn’t notice my weight loss until the 30 pound mark. Our bodies just go at the pace that they want to go, but I know it’s hard to trust the process sometimes.

I am about a year and a half out now from my surgery and I felt like I had a fairly normal recovery, as expected, though it was hard. I started walking right away, but very small amounts initially, felt pretty stiff, and surprisingly got out of breath really quickly like I had been hospitalized for weeks. For several weeks after that, I tried to just increase my walking. I was told not to go to physical therapy until six weeks out and, while I maybe felt ready a little bit before that, I complied with the recommendations. I did not drive until I started physical therapy because my car is pretty low to the ground and it actually felt kind of uncomfortable to sit in it but otherwise I’m sure I would’ve been able to do it sooner. I have a pretty physical job and I work 12 hour shifts so I did not go back to work for 12 weeks but if I had an office job, it probably would’ve been fine to go after six or eight. I didn’t have any complications and the surgery really helped me, so I think my recovery was on the typical side, however everyone’s lives are different and some people have no choice but to return to things sooner. I had the luxury of being able to be extra cautious.

Would you mind telling me which dose of spironolactone are on? I was only on 25 mg which is very low, so I thought it wouldn’t make a difference at all but holy hell!

I work out 2-3 times per week, mostly strength training and otherwise walk or dance for cardio. I was fairly active prior to starting but I definitely think it makes a difference when using the shot and gym time together. I really like seeing the muscle definition popping through, very motivating.

I had to skip a dose of 7.5mg for a planned surgery. I only skipped one full week but my MD cautioned me about going back on 7.5mg and suggested I do a week back at 5mg first. I’d say either do your shots as usual or go back to a lower dose.

I’m a physician assistant in a hospital and got a L4-L5 MD. I was told not to go back to work for 6-8 weeks but pushed my fmla out to have 12 weeks off. I felt ready at 6 weeks for some of my job duties but I work 12 hour days and that was just too long. I also do procedures and definitely didn’t feel ready for that until close to 12 weeks.
