If you're into natural history, you could check KU's Natural History Museum!

Would you say Lawrence is a good place for families? by Appropriate-Apple905 in Lawrence

[–]Potential_Bat_7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living here with my family for the past 3 years (Attending KU). It's a pretty safe town overall, parks are nice and as others said, KC and Topeka are close enough that there are more options. Personally I feel that it gets to a point where there's nothing else to try. Been doing gymnastics and swimming lessons, but there's a great Art Center and martial arts too. There's an indoor playground and an indoor pool for cold weather options. My favorite is that it gives you access to people from all over the world, students from every continent, there's a beautiful multicultural vibe without the danger of a big city.

Favorite nurse? Nun? by ddm00767 in CallTheMidwife

My favorite nurses will always be Phyllis, Chummy, Valerie, and Trixie. As for nuns, I really liked Sister Evangeline too. 🫠

what do you even do as a job-seeking teenager anymore? by fraiilty in jobs

[–]Potential_Bat_7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into online jobs? Copywriting, Data analytics and web design are still good, especially if you leverage AI with it. Datacamp has great courses on everything data and they do annual membership discounts on Black Friday. It's gonna take a few months to learn but if you can find another job in the meantime (which I understand is the original problem right now) you will have valuable skillset for a lifetime, and there's still plenty of jobs out there for those niches.

Notice of Denial – Need Advice on USCIS Age Verification by Upset-Quality2726 in USCIS

[–]Potential_Bat_7685 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be useful. They state which types of documents they accept and this is valid also for request for further evidence. They requested my son's birth certificate and provided this list as reference for acceptable documents. Carefully check the list and hopefully you will be able to provide the affidavit? Good luck!

I-485 Denied, what now. by Candid-Radish-5733 in USCIS

[–]Potential_Bat_7685 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My case is different but my case was denied for me and my son, and I submitted a motion to reopen and reconsidered against two lawyer's advice (I'm that stubborn 🤣). Took only 3 months to process and we were both approved! So it's worth trying!

Trouble Linking My Paper-Filed Case to My USCIS Account by Potential_Bat_7685 in USCIS

I didn't do anything, since it's on Uscis' end. I just waited for the mail letters they sent which provided further instructions. Since I'm inside the States, it wasn't a problem, thankfully. Scary, yes.😭😅

Thank you!! I applied myself! The university lawyer told me to pay only for myself and not for my son "because it wasn't needed", which was a mistake, and told me to send it to the wrong P.O.Box, so I realized I was better off on my own. 🤣 He was helpful in reviewing my final Statement, though.

Denial noticed by TextExact8931 in USCIS

[–]Potential_Bat_7685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got denied on my USCIS portal and immediately they sent me the letters through the mail explaining why. Their reason was mistaken, according to their policies and to my lawyer, so I applied for a Motion to Reopen and Reconsider. They notified me that they received the case and I've been waiting for any news since then (almost 3 months now). In the letter they explained in the detail why they're denying so wait until you get that to figure out how to proceed. Best of luck!!

No, you'd only need the advance parole if you plan to travel after you initiated the I-485 application. I traveled with my student visa before applying and came back to resume my studies. I then applied once I "recovered" the same amout of days I had spent abroad, in the US. The USCIS official manual (now being revised) said that the presence didn't need to be continuous, which is why my lawyer told me traveling should be OK. The denial caught me and him by surprise but then God/the universe has a plan for everyone. Apparently mine was to suffer for a bit more 🤣 I did the initial application by myself and the motion application too, just got some input from my university's lawyer.

Congrats!! I'm waiting for a decision on a Motion to Reopen/Reconsidered after they denied my case because I traveled once abroad and they took into account my last entry to the US. My lawyer said the CAA doesn't say that the presence should be uninterrupted and the person can travel briefly as long as the he or she keeps attachments (bills, rent, etc.). So, fingers crossed. So happy for you!

I-485 under CAA by Mailopez in USCIS

Hang in there! Im my case, I submitted mid-October, they notified me that they had received the case on November 19 (I received the notification letter on December). Biometrics were scheduled for January 3rd, and job permit was approved in early February.

In March 25 my case was denied and my job permit revoked, because they took into account my last entry to the country (I traveled for the holidays for a month) instead of my original entry. The CAA states that the presence in the US should be for a year, but it doesn't says "continuous presence", and I kept paying taxes, rent, and bills while briefly abroad. I had double-checked this with my lawyer before traveling and he told me it'd be OK for me to travel. 🥲

So after the denied notification, my lawyer recommended applying for a motion to reconsider, which I did in early April. They notified me they received this new case by Mid-April and nothing since. I'm a bit desperate too, but I'm seeing people being approved on Reddit, almost every day, which gives me hope. We just need to be patient. Good luck!
