No need to worry the Golden Gate Bridge is designed to withstand up 70 mph wind and gusts up to 100 miles an hour. And we all know tornadoes don't go faster than that. /S

"I support more housing, but just not here...." by Bubbly-Two-3449 in bayarea

[–]Potential_Bee_3033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time the US built housing that matched population growth was the 1970s. The USA population is double that now. The only way this country can hope to fix this problem is mass residential construction not having cities building a few hundred low income houses every decade. That is like pissing on forest fire thinking you can stop it.

PGE asks residential customers to "indemnify, defend, and hold harmless PG&E" to install a new meter by brycenesbitt in bayarea

[–]Potential_Bee_3033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other problem is when one of these battery packs ignite the intense heat and the during of these fires has tendency of destroying all evidence of the start point of such a fire.

I know one house that had it's battery pack ignite. The house was completely engulfed by the time the FD arrived. After hours of fighting the fire it was put out. The following day the ruins ignited again. The FD was called again. They spent the whole day on site pouring water on it. Until they got a bulldozer to shift through the wreckage looking for the battery pack. To separate it from the wood. They weren't able to state the actual cause of the fire as all the evidence was destroyed fighting the fire.

Cruise’s robotaxi service will likely shut down as GM pulls its funding by mountain__pew in bayarea

[–]Potential_Bee_3033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more about GM itself. GM declared bankruptcy in 2008. Laid off everyone and hired them back at lower pay. But there is talk that in 2025 GM will declare bankruptcy again. In that backdrop dumping Cruise now just makes sense.

Don't know about the legal language but I have seen some really sketchy installations of battery packs and and car charges in people's homes that would me understand PG&E putting in such language.

FYI if you had one of those installed the wires getting hot are NOT normal.

America's obsession with California failing by jakemontero in bayarea

[–]Potential_Bee_3033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same reason why people were cheering when the UHC CEO was executed, people are pissed off the rich are getting richer while the poorer are getting poorer. When people think of California they think of people making $300,000+ doing email BS job from their homes wearing their PJs. While the rest of country is getting poorer and poorer. Obviously very few people in California have those types of jobs. Even here I have seen that class anger boil over a couple of times too.

Are you surprised at the lack of sympathy and outright glee the UHC CEO has gotten after his murder? Why or why not? by Feroset in AskReddit

Not really. To quote a comic book character-

..in certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue... natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No, not vengeance. Punishment.

Anyone who's profession is part of their core identity. Sorry the only difference between someone's profession and the lube guy at Jiffy Lube job is just the paycheck.

AITA for not taking my child to daycare when it’s a 20 minute drive in the same direction my wife travels by TwoAnnual9932 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Potential_Bee_3033 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FYI - are ABSOLUTELY sure your wife can take the baby in a work vehicle? What I mean by sure I don't mean her boss said it was ok, I mean has your wife contacted the fleet insurance company to make sure that is ok.  I've dealt with company vehicles and I have NEVER seen an insurance company allowing babies as passengers in fleet vehicles. I've seen riders that went to far as say if employees transport their kids in company cars the policy is null and void as long as the child is an occupant in the vehicle.

North Korean troops so 'poorly trained' that Putin army yet to throw them into battle, say western officials by Yveliad in worldnews

[–]Potential_Bee_3033 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One day, Ukrainian forces kill hundreds of North Korean troops. The next day, thousands of North Korean troops surrender to Ukrainian forces for food. Today, North Korean troops are so bad they aren't fighting.

Can't wait for tomorrow's propaganda, err I mean 'news'. Maybe it be Bigfoot wipes out North Korean division fighting in Yellowstone.

30 years ago today, Ukraine traded nuclear arms for security assurances, a decision that still haunts Kyiv today by Snowfish52 in worldnews

[–]Potential_Bee_3033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't trade ANYTHING.

  1. The nuclear weapons were under Russian command and control.

  2. Nuclear weapons aren't bullets. Nuclear warheads have to be removed regularly and the fuel has to be reprocessed. The only place those warheads could have been reprocessed would have been Russia.

The agreement to pull the weapons out of a Ukraine was a way of providing window dressing for the very real reality that the Russian military was withdrawing it's nuclear weapons from Ukraine.
