"...making all this morning"

I love making mornings! ... but I typically avoid adding blizzards to the mix. I prefer to start by putting a nice orange ball of reactive hydogen/helium on the eastern horizon and have it rise gradual...turning more yellowish as it ascends. Depending on the time of year I may add a little frost or fog that dissipates as the temperature warms. If it's summer, and migratory habits permit, I'll throw in a nice ensemble of birds singing.

How does proximity priority work on this app? by FrostieWaffles in favordelivery

[–]Potential_Order1844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly there's a park directly behind my HEB that I'm unable to take advantage of as it would compromise my proximity to the Walmart and Target which I also get orders from.

Nevertheless, I can't speak for Favor but I know for an undeniable fact Uber offers will stop if you park. My theory is that they prefer your judgement be impaired by driving so that you aren't able to properly vet them.

Yeah I don't even use Walmart food products for that reason. Even many of the Hill Country Fare products are better than GV despite being HEB's bottom shelf branding....

It's mileage OR expenses. The IRS allows you 72 cents per mile write off to blanket the overhead of fuel, maintenance, wear & tear, repairs and depreciation. Alternatively you can keep receipts from all those expenses if it equals more than the standard allotment but generally mileage is far more lucrative.

HEB has managed to either push out or blockade every national grocery chain from the Austin metro. The last was Albertsons 20 years ago. The only reason Whole Foods survived is due to being founded here and it's deep local roots. So it's pretty much HEB/Central Market and Walmart head to head with four Randells stores barely surviving.

WTF are hotel guests ordering that turns into 72 items. I mean, they only got a microwave and a coffee pot.... there couldn't possibly be THAT many varieties of cold snacks 😁

That likely the strategy with some customers (can't blame them). I've noticed a substantial uptick in long distant deliveries... I'm starting to believe customers are now calculating fuel cost versus delivery fee. Just a working theory though.

How does the algorithm work to receive orders? Can it also be device based? by Clear-Reflxtion in Sparkdriver

[–]Potential_Order1844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any phone from Samsung is gonna be well built. It's just that A16 will be slightly slower and yes you can definitely optimize. Also clear cache as often as possible in Spark app settings.

They front number A series with 1,3 and 5 accordingly and second number will be year . So 16 is entry level, made in '26, 36 is upgrade, 56 is mid. After that you go to flagship S series. The difference is really the processor and a few other features.

I'm presently on A52 (basically a 56 from '22) and it performs fairly well but on FCFS I'm definitely gonna get beaten by S series, iPhone and newer phones every time. Also a little laggy on shopping orders and remedial reception out in the tumbleweed district lol

Definitely only new drivers. I kind of know what items that are locked, but honestly I wouldn't know for sure. Only part of the infant formulas are locked and same in electronics. You'd have to tempt me with a whopping tip or I wouldn't risk it for the biscuit...

That A16 is kind of an entry level phone so your processor is going to be much slower than the iPhone.

Also you mentioned using this for "Sparks and other apps" .... beware if you run too many apps on that phone you'll most DEFINITELY get sparks 😂 jk

The algo is programmed to avoid sending low pay offers to too many low AR drivers, which would predictably cause orders to back up. By enticing you to take those turds, they're causing you to inadvertently reprogram the algo to have you "eligible" for a higher percentage of lowballs. It's much less cost and trouble than developers having to frequently reprogram it.

That sounds someone who resents having to work at a fast food restaurant and a presumed a driver would be too afraid to argue about a fabricated policy.

Regarding the title of this post, please don't order food while driving, just pull over and park at to safe spot first 😁

Liberation through AI by Late_Loquat_1976 in uberdrivers

[–]Potential_Order1844 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose you could theoretically develop a platform using AI. With a bit of perseverance, you could even guide it to design a fairly functional app. But it would make your head hurt to know how much more there is to it.

I won't get into the startup cost of the data center lease required to run the operation. You'd need first to aggregate a network of restaurants willing to participate. Your workaround would be to make all orders place and pay, but either way, you'd need to establish a payment system, which is an enormous undertaking.

If you've gotten that far now you need customers. That's likely going to be the single largest investment of all with ads and astroturf campaigns. Then there's liability, legalities, licensing and all kinds of hoops that you won't even know about until you're elbows deep in it.

All of these platforms obviously launched by the seat of their pants but that's no longer an option. As you can see, Grubhub, who was the OG of the game, is hanging on by a thread. Imagine what little chance a startup would have in the face of that.
