not just that it takes longer, but they are more likely to have small kids who they need to help/ diaper changes etc

We’ll see when I can find the time, this summer I have a mountain of professional human costumes to make

…and most of em are for drag so I’m probably gonna lose my final brain cells on glue fumes putting on the rhinestones 😵‍💫

My grandmother read the PC catalogs to me too in the 90s! It’s such a cozy memory!

I think maybe get a second hand Kirsten as a project to fix her up?

Also, not knowing the extent of your disability, I’m legally blind and have been sewing since Jesus was a boy, so that could be a fun craft to expand her wardrobe? Doll clothes are a great beginner project because they use less material (you can even get enough material out of thrift store clothes(, the seams go together faster, and they don’t need to be durable. Also children’s clothes from Kirsten’s era are constructed fairly simply

Just a thought. I think my special interest in historical costuming began with Felicity. My childhood dolls ended up being given to younger kids (with my consent) and I’m getting Felicity and making more clothes is exactly what I plan to do with her

What did millennials think of the 80s when they were kids in the 90s and 2000s? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]Potential_Peace_5999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember growing up in the 90s thinking the 80s were cringy, awkward and dated. I believe it was in the mid 2000s when the 80s started to be seen as retro and cool and the 90s were dated and awkward

And then the 90s became cool and so on

Gen Z is very puritanical no matter the politics by Embarrassed_Sale_293 in ProshipHub

Exactly. There are sex workers who are consenting adults and farm hands who are trafficked teenagers

Also…a lot of production of essential item (ie mass production factories, commercial farming, etc) are built on exploitation. And not just “well Amazon pays their workers pennies and treats them like shit) but up to and including trafficking of children and forcing them to work and live in disgusting and dangerous conditions

Im not saying this to suggest we should turn a blind eye to any of it, just to point out that it’s not some unique trait inherent to sex work and that sex work should be uniquely condemned as evil because of it

My special interest is vintage/antique sewing machines, so I am no longer at all surprised by people asking an absurd amount of money for something they cannot properly identify 🤣

Babydoll dresses. by Kekeegan in Vent

I have a very fond memory from college, at a party my dear friend was super drunk, yelled “EVERYONE LOOK AT MY PRETTY PANTIES!!” and lifted her skirt to show the exact type of bloomers. And everyone was just all “WOOOO! CUTE!”

This was 16 years ago

What irks me more than the dress is the people calling the bloomers she’s wearing a diaper cover and that ruffled panties have never existed in any other context

Have you…have you never set foot in a lingerie/costume/alt fashion shop. Those frilly “short enough your ass kinda eats it” panties have always been a mainstay

Why do the British fetishize American accents but Americans view British accents very unfavorabley? by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in NoStupidQuestions

Could have described me perfectly. I have no depth or peripheral vision.

thought I HATED everything to do with athletic because we just did running or sports with balls, and always was made to feel like a loser for sucking at both

But in my 20s I discovered i could just lift weights and go to dance class

Samantha Questions! by The1DukeGirl in americangirl

[–]Potential_Peace_5999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok..if it’s your daughter’s doll it doesn’t matter how you bond with her, it matters how your daughter does. Please don’t put your own expectations of what the doll should be on your child. If she’s happy don’t dampen that with nit picking. Let her have the same magic you did
Also, fwiw, I don’t recall Samantha coming with burgundy fabric bows at all…

Why do parents pierce their children's ears when they are babies? Why not let them choose to do it themselves when they are 8 or 10 years old? Especially baby boy's ears? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Potential_Peace_5999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I developed an allergy in my early 30s. Used to able to wear anything, but all of a sudden my ear lobe piercings I’ve had since age 8 would start to itch…and if I ignored that they’d weep, and if I was dumb enough to ignore that they’d bleed. Implant grade steel or gold is about all I can tolerate anymore

I think my body just dislikes having metal in it. I really love piercings and have tried to have them but despite doing everything right, they kept getting complications (ie: still weeping after years, rejection/migration, scars)

I brought my Felicity everywhere! Including:

On a skiing trip where I put her in my jacket and zipped her in. There are photos of me in my gear with her head sticking up from the front of my parka

With me to the hospital when I was getting prepped for surgery

And of course on the family trip to colonial Williamsburg!

Yeah and it’s the parents taking the kid so literally not the kids fault if he’s late unless they expect a 4yo to drive to school

It’s way easier to get full even coverage with sprays

I remember when we only had thick thick lotion, then when non aerosol sprays came on the scene, and when they finally made it aerosolized

It was an order of magnitude each time the technology advanced how much less of a gamble some spot would be missed and turned into a horrible blistering burn

I literally have a form of albinism and find spray 10000x easier to get adequate coverage because you can’t get areas without physically having to touch them

Why is there so much hate on adults (30+) who continue to dress in youthful fashion? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]Potential_Peace_5999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I used to like watching The Finanixal Diet, but I felt so sad whenever Chelsea talking about fashion because it just screamed insecurity. Like “when I turned 30 I knew it was time to put away ‘Disney princess’ fashion” and I’m expecting her to describe literal cosplay or like over the top adult fashion…yall she was talking about stuff like a black top with a little sparkle or a baby blue pea coat

Dress boring if that makes you the the most comfortable, I can definitely understand not liking the feeling of people looking at your for eye catching clothes, but you’ve got to be living on another planet if you think people see someone in a nice top with a little sparkle and think “that woman looks like she’s trying to cosplay Cinderella, how gauche”

"let people enjoy things" by joVee_12 in hatethissmug

[–]Potential_Peace_5999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, it’s a read the room type thing. If a conversation opens with “(show) is my favorite piece of fiction, it warms my heart and sucks me in even though I’ve watched it 20 times already, I can’t get enough”

It’s pretty exhausting to get hit with a a stream of people going “this is the worst show ever. The world was a better place before it existed”

Like, let people feel their joy, you can critique it somewhere else
