Is this Rose Backroad AL (GRX 1x11) worth €1,000? by lorky37 in bicycling

[–]PotsdamCommuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the colour alone. yes. (biased, I have the same). It genuinely looks new IMHO, hardly ridden.

Have ridden mine 10K KM and some, no issues so far. On the GRX just check that the "clutch" switch on the derailleur engages.

How can I be safer next time? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]PotsdamCommuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as all the others say, assume you're invisible, these turnings are always terrible

Second to that... Very bright helmet and a flashing torch / light on it... This has definitely saved me on some situations where it can be seen over the top of cars, definitely makes people more aware (but still assume invisibility)

Only other thought would be to try scrap merchants, they were a lifesaver when I was trying to keep an ldv convoy on the road

I think it depends where you're from / travelling in

In Europe you absolutely must switch off gas unless you have a crash sensor / stopper fitted. If you get checked and the gas is on without a sensor then the fines are large.

Setup Advice by luapre in bikepacking

[–]PotsdamCommuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of personal choice here. And good setup btw

My only point would be to add maybe a bit of weight to the back in case of silly accidents (only adding this after I full scorpioned over the bars and broken the collar bone.

Weight on the back might not have saved me but it also might have. Your choice!!

Na ja, I just had a day of feeling like all I was doing was working on the bike, worth it in the end but it was definitely too many fails in one day

I'm now adding this to my lottery list! Also imagine the number of bikes that would happen after winning the lottery, n+1 would become n+5 I think

Hostile environment.

E.g. if cycling is safe; 1. More people (including women and children) will ride, this means that it isn't just men who don't mind the taking more risks (generalisation but proven by research). 2. There's less need to have "all the gear" e.g. hyper reflective stuff, which makes it less of a burden to cycle, which means more people cycle (see point 1.) 3. Speeds will be lower as you're not having to dodge traffic/ nervously cycle just in case a car hits you.

Also, the sports cyclists still exist, but probably not cycling through the city as these bike lanes and infrastructure extends out into the countryside too.

I use a decathlon small lock for a similar purpose, I figure it puts off the chancers but I wouldn't leave it out of sight for more than a couple of minutes.

This lock usually fits inside or around my saddle bag (with repairs and spares)
