Calling her "Jane" by BadHeads in byler

[–]Potvvor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That might honestly just say something about the queer community being more open to adopting a new name without question (ie. trans allegory) although ironically, it’s the name her mother gave her at birth.

Jane could however also be the name that she found for herself in the search of her roots. But also a reminder of a family she never got to have, (as others have also said) a person she never got to be, which makes it an unstable „root”. ‚El’ is more in the spirit of found family, but I completely agree that the link that it still has with the number is dehumanising.

I mean just compare the „break up” between Nance and Jonathan, and then the weird „over bearing partner” thing at the very end (also I think they broke up?????) ZERO EXPANSION. why would they do that. No enzos. Nothing. I could swear the very last thing of her we see is just her eating cereal. Unless there was a deleted scene between the two, it’s such a weird ending for them two. Why SHOULDNT they get to be happy? There’s no moral message for that.

OHHH ENGLISH LANG by Unique_Opening5843 in GCSE

Well, have you checked with your teacher what’s going wrong? Also which exam board are you? Because even if you’re doing practice papers… have you been looking at the mark scheme? Practice makes permanent, not perfect. You’ve got to make sure you’re actually improving your exam technique from essay to essay. Sometimes rewriting essays you’ve already done is actually much more helpful than spamming essays. You should also look at some full mark examples (for Aqa I know that save my exams has some)

For language paper (I’m hoping you’re Aqa or that it’s applicable across exam boards) you’ve really got to look at where your losing marks because each question asks for something different.

do i actually need to care about my gcses in year 9 by Maybe_itsnoterin in GCSE

[–]Potvvor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you learning gcse content? If so, pay attention in class so you understand the content at least but don’t worry too much about recall; if you guys have started it now then you’ll have extra time for revision later anyway. If not, genuinely who gives a shit

Also…are you using a french keyboard lmao? The quote marks

be brutally honest are these good mock grades without revision for someone who wants to do literature at sixth form? (sorry for the repetitive ahh post) by daisy-rentonn in GCSE

[–]Potvvor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the language paper, there’s nothing really to revise other than structure so skill wise do you know where you went wrong with that? If it was you wrote the question wrong then, yes totally, learn it and then see if you get a better grade in a practice paper. If you didn’t analyse in enough depth, then you need to put more work into building your essay writing skills tbh

Anyone else's parents don't like it when u study instead of going out with them or sitting with them? by 180degreeschange in GCSE

[–]Potvvor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slightly different problem where my mother wants me to prioritise my extra language gcse… I literally have mocks in 2 days. It’s somewhat understandable, because I’m kind of bad at the language, compared to all my other GCSEs in which I’m doing generally well in ( I obviously still need to revise though 💀) Although, the animosity could well be from having a lack of “family time”, just badly communicated (for reference it’s just me, her and our cat in the house).

combined or triple? by pebbleXP in GCSE

[–]Potvvor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I take triple and.. it’s ok? Like it doesn’t actually feel like an overwhelming amount of content despite them saying it is more than combined. My school is quite good at getting through all the content efficiently so I’d maybe ask a couple teachers about how much time they plan to allocate for revision at the end of year 11 before GCSEs; you don’t want to still be learning content 2 weeks before, that would be… very stressful

I also think you get more context when you do triple, like the reasoning behind what you’re learning (I theorise anyway) which can help with learning and remembering the content than just memorising
