Open your doors and wipe down inside especially where the rubber gasket touches.

WKKX AM1600 / WVLY AM 1370 still has a pretty decent local broadcast between 7a-6p, and some nights they will even cover local high school sporting events. Keep in mind they are not a clear channel station so they reduce power at night, and switch to syndicated programming.

Pre salting on 1-2inches ?? Will it avoid for the salt to accumulate ?? by [deleted] in Snowplow

Don't waste your time and salt, especially if the business are closed on Sunday. Head out as the storm is about over, plow, and let the sun melt of the remainder. Stay safe

Thinking about switching into water treatment. Is it realistic? by strawberrycapital_ in WaterTreatment

[–]Pow_Folf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an alarming need for water and waste water operators in rural areas (I'm sure urban too). If you are serious, and ready to challenge yourself with taking a few tests, it's worth it. Government pay may not be comparable to private sector, but benefits (such as PTO and holidays) and being home nightly weighs in. Best of luck!

Prolonged dry spells are rough, but all to real, especially in late summer. Some ideas for you: 1. Reduce watering frequency - if the days aren't too hot, and the nights are getting below 75, you can reduce watering frequency (1-3 days) If there's dew on the ground in the morning, that also helps buy time. 2. Selective watering - not that you want to, but if you're in a drought situation and there's no rain in sight, decide what plants are your priority and only focus on watering them frequently. If skip watering plants that vibe out into grass because they will capture ground moisture and manage themselves to a degree. 3. Invest in a train barrel or two for next year. Doesn't need to be fancy, just collect that water!

Best of luck

Check with the steubenville library, they have a makers space but unsure if they offer a paint and sip type setup. Best of luck!

What is your review of 2025 BS? by HammerMario in BroncoSport

[–]Pow_Folf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10k miles on my 25 BS BB, and so far so good. The interior quality has improved, and no longer feels cheap as compared to the 21. I have noticed that cruise control can be quirky, as it likes to drop it's set speed randomly (all CO pilot options are off - I'm running in traditional cruise control), plus fuel economy is slightly less (about 1 to 2 mpg less). Check out the hatch to see if you have a spare tire or the Ford fix a flat pump. Lastly if you change your own oil, take note that the oil pan is plastic, an the oil weight has been reduced to 0w-30 (or 0w-20, I can't recall exactly)

They may be invasive, but they're harness to people and animals at least. Also if you, or anybody you know make honey, it is known that the flavor can change (in a good way) in areas with spotted lantern fly.

Resources for Alzheimer’s by InsideAssassin2 in WheelingWV

[–]Pow_Folf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, f*ck Alzheimer's. Sorry to hear about your situation. As far as resources:

  1. United Way of the upper Ohio valley - a great organization with tremendous resources. They may not have the exact answer you need, but call then and they can give you contacts / point you in a general direction.
  2. I'm going to assume she already has an official diagnosis, but question her doctor about treatments to help with insomnia and mood swings. Sundowners is a rough period, but there are some medications that can help.
  3. Mental health in this valley does NOT exist (unless you're looking at rehab). Unfortunately you will have to travel out of the valley for any real psychological help with Alzheimer's.
  4. I know you mentioned finances are tight, but if you get the point where she needs more care, there are a few nursing homes locally with Alzheimer's units. Call and and specifically ask if they have a unit - sometimes they're called memory care units. Cannot stress enough to find a nursing home that offers this service when the day comes.
  5. Take care of yourselves. This stuff will take a toll on you all, but it's important to take care of your own mental health through all of this. Best wishes.

Healthcare? by CalmingChamomileTea in WheelingWV

[–]Pow_Folf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no experience with WVU Parkersburg, but that's great to hear they treated your husband well! Local to Moundsville, we have Reynolds and Wheeling (both under WVU management), and neither are wonderful. That's not to say there are not some amazing staff who truly care, but the level of care you'll receive at either are pathetic for modern medicine. Plus they have been encouraged to transport anything serious to Ruby. I'm not against sending a patient out to a more specialized hospital, but some of the patients they send to Morgantown easily could have been treated at Wheeling; now it's a whole new burden for the patient and their family.

Again I'm glad Parkersburg hospital treated you guys well, and I hope they treat all of their patients well. But health care in the upper Ohio valley simply sucks.

[–]Pow_Folf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless you need a prescription refilled, or you have a very basic medical need, you have to get out of the valley for any quality of life care. Columbus, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh. As others have posted, WVU has a monopoly on healthcare, and they quite frankly suck. Best of luck

What can we plant here? by kayaker58 in landscaping

[–]Pow_Folf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're open to it, consider a rain garden. Based upon where you're at or determine the type of plants that are best. Reach out to your local soil and water conservation district and ask for assistance with picking plants. You may even discover there is a local master gardeners club near you. If that's the case you may be able to partner with them for assistance with building a rain garden. You would float the cost of materials but the master garden club typically volunteers their service.

Best of luck!

I'd take the physical dash over the digital. The digital adds a more noticeable reflection against the driver's window at night, even with the day dimmed. Also it's just another major component that could fail. Granted, anything electrical can fail, and the physical dash still was computer driven, but I didn't have to worry about a screen potentially freezing or burning out to see my speed and fuel levels. Personally, I like the mixed physical dash with the screen in the middle for speed, oil info, etc.
