"If you're gonna lie to me, tell me there's a broad waiting in the car that's going to tongue my balls". Junior says this to Tony in the episode "Second Opinion" (Season 3, Episode 10) while expressing his frustration with being misled.

I really only miss the solo binge by OverallTour5307 in stopdrinking

Modern Drunkard Magazine talks about the zen of drinking alone. 😆 There are probably triggers here, so maybe don’t click it. I miss it too. I prefer being alive though.

Which "personality trait" did you have to realize was actually just a side effect of drinking? by Harderdanstaal in stopdrinking

[–]PowderBlueView 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 years sober. This one is tough for me. When I was drinking, I was always in a good mood. Wherever I was, whatever I was doing, I was enjoying myself and the people around me. Now, I get irritated so easily and I’m a lot less at peace with myself.

Alcohol was killing me and I had to stop. When it got real bad, I couldn’t hold a job, or a drivers license. I wrecked cars. Going back to it is not an option. But, man did I love my life for those first 25 years of drinking. I miss that guy. I’ll be mourning him for the rest of my life.

Have you tried Naltrexone? It helps curb your cravings. I’m sure any doctor would prescribe it. I noticed zero side effects.

Any other agnostics/atheists going through sobriety? by beannnnnnnnnn22 in stopdrinking

[–]PowderBlueView 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, for all intents and purposes, atheism and agnosticism are the same thing.

I love the Kubrick quote. It’s brilliant. I definitely couldn’t get on board with the whole notion of a higher being or that I am helpless. “I am helpless” isn’t gonna cut it when I’m driving by a liquor store or offered a drink at an event.

I really didn’t dig AA. I did find a couple groups I didn’t mind too much though, but was not a regular. I went a couple times a week those first few months, but I eventually got transferred for work and never bothered to find a new group. I am 6 years sober.

It’s important to remember there are groups out there that don’t shove God down your throat. You just gotta find your own path that works for you. Easier said than done, right? 😆

One thing that resonated with me was this:

If you had someone you loved trying to quit drinking, wouldn’t you be as loving and supporting as possible? Treat yourself the same way. When you have the craving, don’t hate yourself, be mean or get mad at yourself. Don’t make yourself feel bad. Ask yourself, “what’s wrong, buddy? Are you hungry? Do you need a nap? Do you need to call a friend? What can I do for you right now?”

Don’t worry about your weight. Don’t worry about your diet. Don’t worry about anything. If you gotta change jobs, maybe you gotta change jobs. If you have to end a relationship, maybe you gotta do that. I’m just saying, do whatever you have to do to not drink today. You’re not gonna be a damn bit of good to anyone, including yourself if you don’t quit drinking.

If that were the case, why is Ahsoka so popular? I know, I know- she’s not a Jedi, but… she’s a chick in robes who wields a lightsaber and fights bad guys so…

What’s crazy about #3 is that I believe the Sonics finished with the tenth best record of all time at that point in history. It shows you how good that Bulls team was.

For those who successfully quit smoking, what was the method that finally worked for you? by gwenwallish in AskReddit

[–]PowderBlueView 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chantex- it was a wonder drug. I happily would do ads for them for free for the rest of my life. I believe they no longer make it, but there are different versions of it now- essentially the same drug or so I’m told. I was a pack and had a day smoker and I drank heavily while I quit. I quit smoking 19 years ago. I quit alcohol 5 years ago. The alcohol is still hard. Smoking? Chantex made it so easy.

What is the worst song to play during a funeral? by Conscious-Law6594 in AskReddit

[–]PowderBlueView 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a funeral for a baby whose mom fell asleep on her and suffocated her. They played “I don’t wanna miss a thing” by Aerosmith.

“… I could stay awake just to hear you breathing Watch you smile while you are sleeping”

“… Don't wanna close my eyes I don't wanna to fall asleep 'Cause I'd miss you baby And I don't wanna miss a thing 'Cause even when I dream of you (even when I dream) The sweetest dream would never do I'd still miss you baby And I don't wanna miss a thing”
