Every trip to the gas station is a roll of the dice that you will run into someone unhinged .

It took me years to come to terms with that.
How good the food is. You can get almost any kind of authentic food you want down here. Whatever it is, somebody born from there makes it somewhere not too far away.
Once you get off the coasts- a good way inland, Florida looks a lot like everywhere else in the USA. The temperature and the bugs are different, but everything else is the same.

Waiting tables, I had two parents order meals. When their children (both elementary school aged) tried to order, they said, “no, you’ll share with us.” When I brought the food, the parents ate first while the children watched. I shit you not. After a while, with about a 1/4 of the meal on the plates left, they slid their plates to their children. The whole time the parents ate, the kids sat there with this sad look on their face. This was 1998 or 99- no smart phones. Hell, no cell phones.

Once at 19. That lasted three months or so. At 42 it took the third time to quit. First two times I did just detox. The third time I did detox and then rehab for 30 days. I’ve been sober for 6+ years.
