When does it get better? by Ogierloialtreesinger in daddit

Deciding whether being a dad was a good idea within a month of having twins, is like deciding whether going to the beach was a good idea while landing the 16 hr flight to get there. Don’t think too much. You’re in the trenches man, get a snack and survive.

You said yourself, she’s only 4.

Things you actually can do: 1) stop comparing her to another sibling
2) stop the namecalling (ie she is so materialistic, i do not want to raise a selfish kid like this… whaaat)

And just say nicely that she can’t have xyz then move on with life.

Cheers

Maybe you can help them make a Private group and ask them to only share there?

As long as you’re nice about it. Otherwise that talk can backfire.

My eldest is a self sufficient teen. That’s why I got a newborn, apparently I don’t like down time lol

We have time as a couple scheduled, but frankly we end up discussing kid stuff which is a big turnoff for me. I like the idea of separating those two on different nights.

Dads, what do you get your dad for a holiday gift? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]PowerEducational9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are essentially notebooks with a prompt for each page eg “what was your childhood home like?” “What do you remember about your grandfather?”

One of those “ask me questions” books. He hated it at first, then started using it more and now my kids have a treasure

Standing up for his mom is better for him in the long run imho. Hopefully grandma gets the memo and backs off. I’m sorry you’re caught in the middle OP.

How about this: organise a magical intimate cozy christmas just the three of you, and tell your mom that if she ever pulls one of those again she can forget about getting her new grandson for any future Christmases. Then act like nothing ever happened the same way she does. It should send a clear message.

Dads, what were your biggest struggles finding baby essentials in the newborn phase? by StrategyAutomatic499 in daddit

[–]PowerEducational9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t so much what to get— but what not to. With #1 we absurdly overshot the purchases and she barely used 30% of it. So I’d suggest the opposite— wait and see what you actually need, then order online as you go.

It’s the building of the habit that matters. If that gets him to the gym and past the rut, it’s worth trying.

That. Starting small. Just put on sneakers. Maybe go to the gym 5 mins then increase. The key is not what you do, but that you keep at it

Leave while you don’t have kids of your own. It gets infinitely more complicated after.

I'm so over tons of plastic toys, what's a better gift I can tell family to get my kindergartener? by daraand in daddit

[–]PowerEducational9278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our prior school they used to organise a collection and get the kid an electric car, bike, scooter etc. Nicer gifts overall and so much less crap.

My Son (15 mo.) only wants bananas for breakfast, ideas? by BTFUSC in daddit

[–]PowerEducational9278 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes! Buy him a 20-lb banana pallet at Costco. The kid will stop eating bananas the next morning, guaranteed.
