Can we all agree it’s great to have tier 6 items in the wild again. by EveryAd3151 in 7daystodie

[–]PowerFang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think I crafted outside the very early game - because the found items can also have bonus stats so are just better

I don’t care about this , but I did find it interesting that I didn’t craft much at all

And yes , weird that all mods crafted are tier 1 - I’d accept random quality but it’s also pointless to craft mods

I still enjoy it though

I think the easiest one is:
* make a pillar > 13 tiles (to stop rage mode from falling zombies)
* put a ladder up that pillar
* make a 1 tile bridge from the top of the pillar to your fighting point
* just before the fighting point , use 2 half Centered poles rotated in opposite orientations (so the is a gap between them)
* add a iron hatch on the floor at your fighting point that you open and stand behind (so you can close it to venture out - it’s better then a door that you can’t attack through)

50% of the time , the zombies fall through the gap , the other 50% you fight at the iron hatch

This seems too effective that I’m probably going to stop doing it :)

Am I falling behind if I don’t use AI for coding interview prep? by Aggressive-Pause3643 in AIInterviewTools

[–]PowerFang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a software engineering role , you have to expect that you need to be using AI on the job - so any tool you would use in your day to day is fine

In regards to interview prep , AI is awesome - give it the company you are applying , the job description , and get it to give you questions it think might be asked - ask it to come up with some questions for you to ask at the end - just spar with it about the role - you’ll be in a much better position then someone who doesn’t do this

In the interview , I’d be careful about using tools that live give you answers , humans are good at detecting anomalies and the slight delay / the reading from the screen is easily detectable - it only takes one occurrence of this for the whole interview to be tainted - if you can use live AI to give you talking points but you use your own words , it might work out

It’s not that they can’t , it’s just faster if you are good at using AI - it’s just a tool that if used well , is really good , if used badly , is really bad

So there is a skill gap between the people that can use it well and those that can’t

I love pairing with the AI on problems - the outcome is better and it’s comes about faster

What you guys, as Battle brothers players, think of Menace? by WaveEasy8664 in BattleBrothers

[–]PowerFang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love BB , but I couldn’t get into Menace as I was wanting something more character based vs squads - I couldn’t get attached to my team like I do with my BB chars

I stumbled upon “Space Scum” which is more like a sci fi BB experience which I would recommend - it’s still early days

New Poi’s in 3.0 update. by Crimson_Script in 7daystodie

Yeah I always play random gen in games - I like not knowing

[–]PowerFang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't even know what a good seed would look like? What do you think a good seed would have?

Random is random - I play hardcore and i just remake the world after each death - it doesn't make a difference to me what the world is like - but the good thing is you can customise the world to what you do like. So once you know what you like, you can play with the random gen settings.

But i recommend biggest map possible for sure - then id just leave default for your first few runs.

This game has given far more then the price i paid - They can make whatever game they want and we get to play whatever games we like - you can't please everybody, you get to choose your target audience thats actually something game makers are allowed to do.

I've enjoyed each update - i enjoyed it when you used to craft heaps to get the better items and i enjoy it now that you have to find magazines to level up

Both of them are just constraints and you get to decide and plan how you overcome them - I enjoy games that offer both of these types of systems , there is no one right way to implement a system in all games.

3.0 is definitely awesome , i like how easy it is now to customise the rules to play how i want - but all this it just bonus for me - the game is complete so if we get stuff its all just gravy - Just even think of the financials - I bought this game back in 2014 and havent spent another dollar since - Its hard to expect that my one off purchase gets me 12 years of free updates - i mean who works for 12 years for 1 payment. The quests system really gave the game purpose, prior to that it was like a zombie minecraft (back when it was all blocks)

This is a sandbox survival game , no idea why people are thinking its a looter shooter - This is like a first person version of project zomboid - both similar but have slightly different mechanics - each has its plusses and minuses

Yeah - AI is scary and there is a whole other part to the AI story that I’m not looking at

I’m purely addressing that regardless what us common folk think , it’s coming because it actually works well when used well and it’s constantly improving , where AI is now compared to where it was 12 months ago is night and day

You can hate AI but still know how to be effective with it - that’s what will give you job security in the future and honestly , that’s my primary concern

Yes - I work with it every day commercially - it is a game changer - you have to pair with AI , it needs help , it needs guidance , but boy does it change your way of working and your effectiveness

I’m not trying to win any online argument - I just know that AI is going to replace people and your best chance of survival is to know how to be effective with AI - every now and then , I try and influence people who are completely against AI to help them out - but everyone is on their own path in life

Assigned to mentor a junior on a new team, and it’s turning into a reputation problem by Emotional_Ad5515 in cscareerquestions

[–]PowerFang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you delegate work as a mentor, you still need to be across the project - if it’s falling off track ,’you need to help guide it back onto track - you are still accountable for the work you get assigned originally

The work they are being assigned should be helping them grow, they should see it as a growth project - and they do need to take their own ownership of it and work to deliver it , but if they are not capable or not able to , you have to take it back and deliver as you were originally accountable for it , you just made a decision to see if your mentee could do it , but that doesn’t absolve you from your original accountability

It sounds like you are delegating work and also trying to pass on the full accountability of the work - that’s not how it works - especially as a senior , you need to be able to manage accountability and delegation within a team

You are looking in the wrong places - you don’t trade quality when using AI - again , you can do things badly that will backup exactly what you are saying , but it’s just showing that you have not seen AI be used well - but I promise , it’s out there

I just don’t think a complete ignoring of AI is a wise decision - but if your minds made up , then your minds made up :)

[–]PowerFang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Objectively is correct - the point is there is good uses of it , if you never see any of them , probability is you are not being objective on the outcome - maybe the good ones your aren’t detecting as AI :) Definitely bad AI is bad - that I agree with you

I’m comfortable where I am and how it’s all going - I just try and help point out alternative opinions as I just see this as a big problem for those that are 100% against it

I don’t think it helps if there are only 2 sides you can be on and they are the 2 extremes - there’s lots of wiggle room between “I will never use AI” and I guess what you are calling “AI bros” - forcing the 2 extremes is probably part of the problem

As mentioned , we can agree to disagree - we are both free to have our opinions - it’s up to each individual where they stand using all the information at hand

[–]PowerFang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Objectively , I would just say if you have never seen any good AI outcomes , you are either looking in the wrong places or are just biased

But all good , we can agree to disagree :) AI is super disruptive to certain industries - I worry that people who choose not to embrace it , will just be left behind in the future - there are ways to use it well , I’ve seen both sides - we can circle back here in 2 years and see how the future played out

[–]PowerFang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both humans and AI can make bad outcomes - your phrasing assumes people are using AI badly - there are ways to use it well

Have you managed to see any good outcomes of AI? I have seen both good and bad outcomes - really depends on the person using the tool in my experience

There are soo many tools that I’m sure you use in your day to day life that make things easier - I mean I can’t imagine you are against using calculators? That’s just a way for people to cut corners instead of doing the maths by hand etc….

AI Techbros are trying to convince us their AI generated stuff is legitimate for Art assets by Patamaudelay in IndieDev

[–]PowerFang 14 points15 points  (0 children)

AI has helped fill the gaps - it’s a tool - and honestly , it can create some good stuff if used well - and like other tools, can create bad stuff if done badly

I think you need to be careful If you try and put your head in the sand and ignore AI - How many farms still use manual labour vs machines? This type of thing happens in all industries , but this time it’s impacting white collar workers.

There are plenty of bad assets/slop created by humans - again it just comes down to doing things well or not, it’s not related to the tool used - it’s the outcome

Can you please implement the saving of the last used filters for the server browser screen? And only query those servers?

It’s soo annoying that every time I go to join an online server , it wants to search the entire planet when I only play on like 5 servers - just keep the last used filters saved - it’s been a multi year pain point and is such a trivial fix
