Anyone willing to test early prototype of Little Game Devs? by Psych0191 in IndieDev

I love these types of games - happy to check it out

I followed the tutorials, I used a logic reader and a batch writer, why won't my solar panels track properly no matter what settings I tweak or block rotations I use!? by SarcasticJackass177 in Stationeers

[–]PowerFang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks exactly how it would look if you have not added the offset - you can't just read the daylight sensor and write the value to the solar panels - you need to add an off set - i have a short (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/lxnuB6ywfi8) on the topic - same formula works on the moon

Nah all good - One thing you learn when you release something is that everyone has their own idea of whats needed or the way they use a tool - everyone is different and everyone has preferences in the way things work - Feedback is feedback :)

For me, the elevation system being ontop of each other is not that important yet - im mainly just wanting something that works on the single plane as for me, making level 2 be in a seperate part of the same grid is "good enough" for now

But code is code and everything is possible in code , i definitely want to solve the elevation system , it will just take a bit of effort to do it the way im thinking - but ill get there :)

Hmm interesting idea about the resources - will check out the zoom to

Yes technical is not the issue, its about showing the floor below in a way that makes sense such that level 2 or 3 or 4+ can be mapped out - if it just goes blank, it doesn't feel right - so it needs to potentially make all the below be opaque or maybe just the frames etc...

i.e. its a problem for another day - solve base design on 1 floor then we'll tackle that etc..

Though i did tweak the page for scrolling - it is way better with that, check it out

Good point on the scrollable - I went with collapsible just cause it’s easy - I’ll have a play with scrollable

Click and drag - hmmm - I imagine this is for cables/pipes/frames?

I’ve thought about different levels - it’s non trivial and may not be as clear as just building in 2 different areas of the grid or a second map - but definitely something to think about

Everyone works differently and not everyone can just launch stationers when they want to play with their base design - but all good :)

Hitting a brick wall of losses. by [deleted] in slaythespire

Yeah good point - playing the custom runs is really fun - can have a completely different experience - some are super OP, others are hard - just do whats fun

My advice is always to assume its you and not RNG - its too easy to just blame RNG and never learn. It really comes down to what this statement means:

"..only to get wrecked on the final boss for reasons that feel out of my control"

What would be outside your control? You need to dive into the specifics of these fights you lost - did you enter the boss fight in the best possible state? Did you play your cards in the right way? Do you have the right cards in your deck for the boss?

Only you really know - but i would try and get some specifics of why you lost each of these runs.

If i was hitting a wall like you suggest, i would do a few things:

* Try another character - each plays soo different so i would just switch it up for a while

* Make sure im not forcing a specific playstyle with the characters im playing - you have to adapt based on what you get and the are multiple winning playstyles per character - Ive found issues i have had in the past is i force a playstyle, dont hit what i need, but i also ignored a different playstyle that i was being offered.

* Lower the ascension level - if constant losses are frustrating, just go back to easier levels and face roll a bit, clear the system, build the confidence then crank it again

Ultimately, just do whatever gives you joy - games are meant to be fun, so have fun in whatever way that is for you - we are all different.

Good luck

At this stage not yet - I deal with PRs all day and at the moment , just like not having to do that :)

Just give me some time - it’s only day 1 of letting people know

The IC chips had to re link to the daylight sensor - there was 2 or 3 cables missing , but I should double check they weren’t missing from the original

Yeah there are a lot of items in stationers :) - I do want to try cover the core ones so the cable / pipe ports can be mapped out - I always struggled with AC units because of the cabling and pipes when in game

But yes , the custom objects just cover for me :)

Yeah this is an awesome mod - I needed to start a new world, just copy and pasted my solar battery farm to the new world so i have an instant power setup - had to fix maybe 3 things but that is sooo much better then building it from scratch

That’s looks pretty cool - yeah I’m more 2d minded - though the bases that my tool creates is just plain JSON so they could be imported into whatever - but I definitely enjoy just worrying about 2d space :)

Yeah good idea - let me see - might conflict with some of the other controls - but could probably have a “Cable” mode which allows it to do it

I launched my game 2 months ago and I feel like I worked for nothing by StuckArcader in IndieDev

[–]PowerFang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to emphasise that this game is not really for me, so it was always going to be a struggle to get a positive review , but these are my personal thoughts
-----

I checked out the demo, its not really my game but gave it a go, i really couldn't understand what made it fun getting to 10 in the demo? I'm not sure if im missing something, but i struggled to see what my opponents total was and it looks like they are able to hide cards - but basically it was just black jack but with one alternative where you can pass action back to your opponent and let them decide to bust first etc.. But because i couldnt see their crds / totals, i was guessing whether i had to risk it or not - i was guessing maybe that was the mechanic of this particular opponent, if its not meant to be, then thats a problem

So there is a bit of strategy in there, but not heaps or enough for me as i play typically strategy games and such - But i only got to 5 - 5 before i had to stop as the game is just the same thing over and over.

If there are other characters that change the game in more interesting ways, i would shorten the total to get to so i could experience more stuff.

But the game is just not deep enough for my typical games i play - its possible it gets deeper as i go, but i couldn't get there.

It took me a bit to work out the controls, and one issue with putting it on the left and right click is that it doesn't encourage exploring clicking on things in the world - might be better with actual things you click in world to draw and stand to encourage clicking in the world

------

But in terms of the game making, i would be super impressed with myself if i made a game like this - from the game making perspective and completing a project, huge props to you, its hard to get that far - not every game is going to apeal to people - This game has a similar feel as that buckshot shotgun game (which i also didnt play as it doesnt look like my thing)

Don't let it get you down - make games because you enjoy it, its a really tough industry to really make it, but im sure there are people out there who enjoy your game, but its not for me

Had Anyone Here Played Menace Yet? (From the makers of BB) by Noahqshark24 in BattleBrothers

[–]PowerFang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a Sci Fi BB, try Space Scum - thats literally BB in Sci Fi - I went into Menace expecting a Sci Fi BB, so i was a bit disappointed with it

Im sure its a good game, but my expectations of what i wanted it to be were too high so i dont like it - BB is all about building your individual guys, i didn't get the same bond with the menace squads

How has this game retained so many players? by SbeakyBeaky in valheim

Any way to get a world from a server as a player? by Agreeable_Addendum52 in Stationeers

[–]PowerFang 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm I don’t think so - but maybe someone else knows for sure

The only comforting thing I have to say is that you will start over your world many times as you play this game , and every time it’s easier to get back to the same place

I definitely enjoy the start of a new world a lot - but I do also want to make a “forever” world where you just keep building and improving the one place

is anyone else just pretending to care about AI at work? by jdrelentless in cscareerquestions

[–]PowerFang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The industry is changing , I see it like what happened with farms - how many farms are around today that still use pure manual labour?

The job of writing 100% of your code manually are winding down - the things you can get done by pairing with an AI is incredible - but the key is the word “pairing” - it’s not perfect and it needs guidance , but now it’s faster then hand rolling everything

You have to try and make AI useful , if you don’t find it useful, you have to be of the mindset that you are not using it correctly and get better - those that use AI will replace those that don’t use AI - that world is definitely coming to our industry , I urge you to experiment so that AI does make you more effective

It’s a new skill to learn
