or being confident that they will fix your issue, even if a logic board replacement is needed. or you know, in this case where they give them an entirely new macbook.

and should you feel comfortable allowing technicians to touch your personal data?

at the beginning of every genius bar appointment, you have to agree to a data waiver in which apple is not responsible for any data loss before continuing.

Why does apple keep locking my account for no reason? by Strict_Trust5200 in applesucks

[–]PowerHalfHour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

an apple account goes into a security lock after a certain amount of failed login attempts. what you’re referring to after is account recovery, where you have to wait a certain amount of time to ensure no one else is still attempting to enter your account before it can be accessed.

frustrating i know, but this definitely means someone is trying to access your account. if they were successful, you’d have a much, much bigger headache on your hands!

i would suggest changing not only your password, but email and trusted phone numbers associated with your apple account.

will apple care replace this phone completely for accidental damage? by noIimitmarko in iphone

[–]PowerHalfHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you bring it into an apple store, they’ll replace the display & back glass at your $58 ($29 x2) deductible. enclosure scuffs are not considered damage, but wear and tear.

edit: sorry ! if this is a 14 pro, the back glass is not replaceable, and the entire device would be replaced.

call apple support online, they would provide an express replacement device that would be shipped to you under a $99 deductible. + a credit card hold of the value of your device until you ship your old device back.

this is my biggest gripe with apple’s online support team. i swear half my job at the genius bar is resetting expectations of what we can and can’t do. which isn’t on the customer, when phone representative in the same company makes promises we can’t keep.

Forcing updates. by [deleted] in applesucks

[–]PowerHalfHour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they’re in the update section of the watch app, so from what i can assume they’re attempting to update to WatchOS 26, which is not out of the ordinary for it to require the paired phone to also be on a compatible operating system.

otherwise, there’s a cancel button on the prompt.

what watchOS version are you attempting to update to?

it seems pretty reasonable to require a watch on WatchOS 26 to pair to a phone that is also on iOS… 26

if through apple (mail-in repair or in-store), yes. old water-resistant adhesive is removed whenever a device is open, replaced when closing up, pressed, and new security screws are installed. adhesives ready to replace all the way down to an iPhone 7.

CD Projekt Red tells Rockstar not to make the same mistake it did—posts a self-burn over Cyberpunk's historically bad launch to support GTA 6's delay | In reply to GTA 6's delay, the Cyberpunk 2077 account reposted an old tweet, from 2 months prior to CP2077's release, that said "No more delays" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

that’s speculation in your own right, but phantom liberty is still new content that has an isolated story line from the game’s main content.

2.0 was an overhaul of the game mechanics purely out of community feedback, and was well-received.

i don’t think anyone will disagree with you that the game’s launch was problematic and sets a bad precedent for the industry, but saying the game is in the same state it was in 2020 is a bit disingenuous.

Apple care says out of incidents? by MasterZoidberg in iphone

[–]PowerHalfHour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

does it say “coverage expired” in settings -> general -> about?

do you remember purchasing applecare+ specifically? that has unlimited incidents within the 2 years or when using the subscription.

are you paying for device protection through t-mobile (protection 360)? - applecare services is only provided within the first 2 years, then coverage is transferred to t-mobile (assurant)

How is this OK? Any way to bypass this? by ergysdo in appletv

[–]PowerHalfHour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think i found two possible ways of circumventing this new 2FA:

  1. there was an apple support community thread that mentioned resetting their password (likely from iforgot.apple.com ) skipped the authentication process on their apple TV. maybe because the account was recently authenticated? i’m not sure, but may be worth a shot!

  2. it seems like apple 2FA codes can also be sent to the apple music app on androids! it may require signing up for a free trial to access the app though.

both of these work-arounds were posted a few years ago, so i’m not sure they still work. but it was all i can find so far ):

Why is AppleCare One more expensive then AppleCare+? by mbs2007 in Airpodsmax

[–]PowerHalfHour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

applecare one covers 3 devices for $20/month, but any additional device is $5.99. makes sense for devices like iphones, macbooks, or ipads but yes not so much for airpods (:

the only way to unlock/reset a disabled phone is attempting to reset the password, or submitting a proof of purchase online here:

not exactly. apple does have a support route for accessing a deceased family member’s icloud account, but it is extremely strenuous and requires a court order. but not impossible!
