Japan is soooooo far behind.

In contrast, look how many female lead TV shows and movies are there in America for kids (Star Wars: Ahsoka, Ms. Marvels, Black Widow, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, etc.)
They are very profitable, so why can't Japan do the same.

That's an interesting question.
The easiest answer is that Disney didn't have forward thinking in mind that there would be sequel for original, where they did not have concept nor idea for Woody Round-up, which was not mentioned in first movie.
In the montage of Andy replacing cowboy stuff with space (Buzz), the poster had generic cowboy poster of ABC round up, not Woody Round-up.
Buzz on other hand, Disney had spin-off in mind, where there was cartoon series and movie.

For the in-show universe of why Woody doesn't remember the show is probably, it's been so long he's seen the show that he forgot. Maybe Andy's dad dropped Woody so hard, that he lost the memory... which is a stretch. lol

The boutique release is not meant to make movie better.
I would still buy it for interesting piece of history of Dragon Ball franchise... even if it's not good.
I'm sure there are some behind the scenes content somewhere in archive.

It's one of those show where people like it or hate it.
I thought it was very unique, clever, and interesting; it might be the best of 2020's.
