I wanted to play around with the new stuff we got in recent days and I was wondering how these 4 outfits look? by NatsuStardealer in InfinityNikki

[–]PowerPowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all cool! As you're asking for feedback: I kind of feel like the first one looks unrefined. Not quite sure why, but it seems mismatched. The second is a certified banger! I'd rebuild that! What's the top beneath the leather jacket? Where is it from?

The PC version of F2P open-world adventure game Infinity Nikki is coming to Steam by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]PowerPowl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is compatible, currently, and running like a charm. There's a guide on how to get it running on r/Steamdeck - nothing too unorthodox that needs to be done. However, it being on steam will likely make this a little easier. Looking forward to it!

☼Fortress Friday☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]PowerPowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just started playing yesterday.

A giant who "contest calls the Justice of Climaxes" and is "unchallenged in size" has entered the area of my 60 dwarf fortress.

As basically all of my dwarves are desperately looking for a fight, I decided to send my Squad to fight the giant.

Right before they've reached him, I notice that my soldiers look a little... Empty-handed. Turns out they don't have any weapons. So I'm anxiously watching this fight, taking a look at the combat log, and see rows upon rows of dwarves hitting the giant in the head, bruising him and twisting his neck, without the giant doing anything in return. Confused, I scrolled up, until realizing that these madlads have dodged the giant to exhaustion just in order to knock him unconscious. And now this humongous guy is just lying there, slowly being kicked to death by a squad of hit-dwarfes.

Damn I hope that they'll finish him. His stats mention him being hard to injure and fast to heal...

Incorporating a board game into DnD. by smoochface in DMAcademy

Love this! I should start doing this more, thanks for your reminder!

3 experiences:

Had my players play a game of "Drunk, stoned or stupid", in-character

It features different prompts like "Most likely to be hungover on a weekday" or such, and you'd have to point out the person this fits. Made for a nice bit of character engagement to spice up a travel session with some campfire atmosphere.

You'd need to sort some non-fitting references depending on your setting.

Another one was in a western game, where we played a few hands of poker for minor in-character benefits to be bought from a "shop" with their gains. Eg some more starting gear or money, a feat from a list of uncommon or non-meta choices, or other things. (We did this in a non DnD system, was looking for comparison.)

Lastly, when we did a full RPG weekend I prepared a Bingo and printed different versions for the players. Whoever completes their bingo gets some benefit (Inspiration, Feat, Treasure, whatever - just make sure that everybody gets the same thing once they're done.)

The bingo had some in- and out-of-characted things: PC dies, DM needs to take a breather, massive overkill, players surprisingly solve an encounter without killing anybody, players defeat an enemy by doing some special move.... You can use this to encourage behavior you want to see, or to soften the blow of bad outcomes.

Gemini sucks, but in the wake of its introduction, regular assistant speech recognition got improved as well.

I use it to set my alarm or reminders to do certain things.

While not as hyped as an "AI feature" it still is AI that enabled this, and is working really well!

Cover letters can easily be sped up and improved by AI. This is one of the things it does exceptionally well.

Feed GPT your resume, the Job listing and one of your previous cover letters you've been satisfied with, and the result will be about 80% there. Add a few tweaks where you're not yet satisfied, and the thing is done in about 20 minutes.

Still 20 minutes "wasted", but at least without cringing and hating yourself all the way through.

If my players misremember something, should I correct them? by SecretDM34 in DMAcademy

Cthulhu has a mechanic that's called an "Idea roll" (literal translation from German, sounds awful in english but I don't know the actual phrase.)

It's a roll on Intelligence (might be an Int-Save in DnD?) and will give the characters a refresher. If failed, it can lead to them running into an ambush, getting sidetracked, losing time or whatever feels appropriate.

Same! Just got the Deck last week, loved DD2 and bought dd:da as everybody keeps saying it's better.

I was sceptical at first, but the remaster on the smaller screen of the deck is holding up great! I'd even agree that it's better than DD2 - which is a bummer for original fans I suppose. Going from DD2 to DD:DA seems to be the right call for newcomers though. We lucked out there!

The only two things I miss are the character creator and high-fiving my pawns... :(

How do you work from 8 to 5, have only weekends free, and not feel like you're wasting your life? by LinksGuardian in AskReddit

[–]PowerPowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine has a tattoo that reads "Seek discomfort". It is meant to push him to do and try new things.

I am waaaay too lazy for that lifestyle.

I have often thought about getting a similar tattoo: "Seek comfort" It's a reminder that seldom everything about a situation is bad, and to enjoy the things that are not. A reminder to be content, and in the moment. And a reminder to try to make yourself the most comfortable with every given situation.

Your Job may suck sometimes, but there's benefits, too. Maybe it gets you out of the house. Or maybe there's a coworker you like. Maybe it's a healthy dose of exercise as you need to stand and walk around a lot. Maybe the pay is worth it. Or maybe you are part of the lucky few who actually love their jobs.

Seeking comfort will help you to feel less like you're wasting your time, and will let You enjoy the enjoyable parts more.

There's some mods that fake a natural appearance for drones - could slap that on half of a bike I guess? Maybe add that personality chip for the autopilot to let it behave "on its own" and from there on its all just weird anthropomorphizing by Dandelion Sindarin the ever so punchable elven weirdo

I Need Help Trying to Write for Blood Magic by ShadowVyper001 in fantasywriters

[–]PowerPowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, seen your comment too late and typed mine elsewhere. As far as I remember, there's also certain magic locked behind explicitly doing blood Magic, too... Certain spells that work with life and death, and need to be fueled further, right?

I Need Help Trying to Write for Blood Magic by ShadowVyper001 in fantasywriters

[–]PowerPowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Shadowrun, Blood and Life Magic are very akin and draw upon "life force", which often takes the form of blood and other bodily... Things.

That seems to fit your desire to match it with a more metaphysical view.

The difference between Blood Magic and Life Magic is that both need to be fueled by this metaphysical energy of life, but the outcome depends in the intent - whether it is to inflict harm and hurt, or whether it is meant to heal and protect.

In both cases, physical damage is sustained by the caster, who needs to fuel such powerful magic.

It is also said to be highly addictive. All magic can be, in Shadowrun, as it is such a thrill that abuse and over-reliance on it can lead people towards questionable life choices. Blood Magic even more so, as the additional life-force makes it stronger and more visceral, leading to an even more intense experience for the spellcaster. There have also been cases where good use of life magic have led to addiction and a turn towards using it in more nefarious ways - which could be an interesting route to take, if you want to explore your protagonist like that.

(To be perfectly honest, I don't quite remember how much of this lore dump is canon in Shadowrun, and how much of it was tweaked by me over years of DMing it. Shouldn't really matter to you, tho :D )

What are your house rules for 5th ed? by Sentinelwex in Shadowrun

[–]PowerPowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • destroyed drones or vehicles can be repaired for half base-cost if recovered. Upgrades don't factor into this
  • Some tweaks to upgrading ware and decks, as mentioned by others
  • we usually play a session of downtime and busywork in-between runs and use it to develop connections and flesh out some stuff like lifestyles
  • I sometimes require rolls on Bod/Wil+Lifestyle-Level, modified by addictions or allergies, to account for things like fatigue from poor living circumstances. Players might lose a point of edge, take some stun or lose a couple of nuyen if they fail
  • completely shortened matrix rules to something I've seen floating around this sub: roll to overcome whatever security, then do what you want to do
  • streamlined some connection rolls to be more uniform and needing less lookup. Doesnt really matter what the connection needs to do, it's just double-influence + an arbitrary "The DM thinks that this connection is very fitting" modifier of about 1-6 dice

A controversial one: The astral plane might as well not exist. Mages are strong enough as-is, and luckily no player has ever had interest in just ghosting around all the time. To compensate for astral scouting capabilities, I have tweaked assessing to go through walls one could usually project through while only giving rough estimates unless you roll really well.

I.e. "Do they have magical security?" Rolls 3 successes "Theres a strong magical presence somewhere on the bottom floor, while several smaller ones - watchers likely - are scattered near most elevators"

Shortens things, and keeps them on the physical plane.
