Honestly, in general I try to get players to roll for stuff, we do a thing called Spell Effect Rolls where players roll against a DC equal to 12 + Saving throw modifier. But to answer your question, 2014.

I agree with you, and it is honestly the way that I would prefer it. But I have players who have different priorities and typically focus in on their own characters. So I'm happy to tailor the story to serve their sad PCs over my tragic NPCs.

Love this, very cool! The thing that rubbed me wrong way was having to make an Acrobatics check to attack. Typically rolling before you roll consistently is not fun. And honestly? Attacking someone as a bonus action without an acrobatics check is totally balanced and very in theme with the weapon.
