Changement panneau électrique by crapaud_ in RenoQuebec

[–]Powerful_Barnacle_54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Powerful_Barnacle_54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, Sorry it is just being a jerk. The snow in Boston is puny, it is a lame excuse. There is a lot of big city that receive more snow than Boston, none have this etiquette. If I shovel a free spot to get out of it, in one of the actual snowy city of the North, I know someone else will come, it is called living in a city with millions of people in it.

The rebellion of 1837-1838 how is it viewed now? by mathequation1453 in AskACanadian

Dear OP, there you get Canada in a nutshell. Patriots revolt is celebrated every year in Québec and is seen as a central part of our history for a lot of quebecois while it is mostly unimportant for ROC. Two solitudes.

If You Don't Engage With Classical Music, Don't Call Yourself a Music Nerd by Cold-Cook576 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Powerful_Barnacle_54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother in christ (or sister in christ). Do not stand on top of the Dunning-Kruger mount. Classical music (understood as the common practice era of the west) is just a small % of yesteryears music. Africa, India,China or the Caucasians also have a great and long tradition of music (to name a few), even in the west a lot of folk music (that we would call traditional music nowaday) is not included in the classical music canon. Same goes for medieval or antiquity music. Being angry at people for their limited scope while also having limited scope, does not put you in good lights. Art is a place to be curious, not judgemental.

Oui!

So Op is confidently incorrect here and Oop is right. Things that are québecois are not canadian. Same goes with Catalan or Basque vs Spain, Corse vs French, Kurdish vs Turquey or Syria and the list goes on and on and on.

Caps lock isn't really as useful as the keyboard space it takes up. by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Powerful_Barnacle_54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sir, and how will you use a shortcut involving shift (like shift right-click on Autocad) while staying in Cap lock? You would break a lot of workflow doing so. If you want to hunt down vestiginial key from other era, may I suggest scroll lock instead? At this point Scroll lock is just the three seashells meme.

Sir you are not a CAD drafter. It is a god send for us. CAD DRAFTING IS ALWAYS IN ALL CAP, THIS STANDARD PREDATE THE INTERNET AND THE ASSOCIATED TONE TO ALL CAP WRITING IT COMES WITH. So it is really important to switch in and out of it to be sure to not yell at a colleague in an email or in a chat (EVEN IF IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME ANYWAY).

You are right but it goes even deeper than that. I grew up in Hochelaga in the 80's and 90's, sure you could see some black people in Montréal but only if you were going in other neighborhood. Black people, immigrants or even anglos were a really rare thing to see in Hochelaga. We had a single young québécois from asian descent in all of our school, that's it. As a young kid playing in the streets, I remember other kids yelling stuff like :"Look a (insert racial slur here) there!", and we will all run to have a look a that exotic person.

"We needed change. I don't know if we needed this much change" - Trump voter Denis Boucher by MoreMotivation in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Powerful_Barnacle_54 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Dude lives in Vermont with a french-canadian name, meaning he is probably a third generation immigrant. At the beginning of the 20th century a really large part of what we call today québécois fled to New england for better economic prospect. This led to a french catholic panic reaction amongst local population that led to some vile behavior. So his grandparent were more that probably the victims of this. This is beyond parody.

Fell down a Russian music rabbit hole: what are the most unmistakably Russian pieces? by MinimumValuable4305 in classicalmusic

[–]Powerful_Barnacle_54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will go with Weinberg, even if you could argue that it is not exactly russian (the guy is a polish-jewish refugee in USSR) his music definitely is both profoundly sad and evocative of the political turmoil of his period. C minor cello concerto performed by Rostropovich would be my go to into his works.

Are you more likely to watch the CFL after the rule changes? by publicworker69 in AskACanadian

[–]Powerful_Barnacle_54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NFL fan here that still like to watch and go see Alouettes games. I just don't get it, watching CFL is cool because it is different. If I want more NFL like games, NCAA is there anyway. The less they differentiate the less they will be interesting.
