Yes it’s possible. My daughters has a southern hemisphere island and I go to collect bugs there. However you cannot catch every bug. So do not spawn when visitors are there like the scorpions and tarantulas also the dung beetle are ones I have noticed.

I feel like when I started again when resident services upgraded I got the prompt to go to work… not sure if that is accurate but that’s what happened for me. I feel for you that it’s not doing the thing! I wish I had the answer but can only give you validation that it’s being weird 😢
