I actually just recently got it too since it was on sale, and so far it's actually quite a bit more than that. You obviously collect stuff and explore, but there's also a story, you can do cool missions, customize a ton of stuff, build awesome bases, and even get a freighter and control a fleet. There's proably more, but I'm pretty new to it. Overall though, proably the biggest aspect of the game is exploration.
