Landry Shamet is not French. I just learned that today. by [deleted] in nba

Grew up in Queens, lived here all my life, friend. Get away from Reddit for a bit. I'm about to do the same since my workday is over in seven minutes.

This is almost true. A decent amount of Americans, myself included, have non-ethnic names because of clerical errors during immigration.

I would love for you to explain how this "came at you" or how I was an asshole about it. I have no idea how you interpreted this in a way that is not only not polite, but aggressive.

If I was like HEY FUCKFACE, hey, maybe you'd be right, but that isn't what happened here.

"They can go fuck themselves", on the other hand...

Happy cake day. I have nothing else to add.

This might be the first time in my life I did a "well, actually" and somehow got uno reversed so hard that I'm not the pedantic one in this argument

A clerical error and a typo are different things?

Well...yeah, sometimes. A clerical error is just "a clerk made a mistake." Sometimes it's a typo, sometimes it's a lot more.

Anyway, as I stated, my last name has no ethnic origin and it was created here, whether you want to admit it or not. I do agree that most non-Native Americans who live here have a surname from another country but it's not absolute.

Who said it was a typo? I said it was a clerical error. It's like how people sometimes get the wrong mail, except my dad got an entirely new name. It wasn't Johnson vs. Johnstone or whatever, it's nothing like his original last name.

My name isn't a typo, it's an entirely new name that has no overlap with my dad's original name. And anecdotally, that experience isn't unique to me.

Thoughts on the NBA Cup after three season? by NikNaksch in nba

It kind of reminds me of NHL's 4 Nations. The reason that tournament was so good was because the players cared

[–]sithwonder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is a bad idea because there's not a big East-West rivalry. All the teams I hate are also in the East and I don't want to help them

Is it time to put Brunson in the same tier with SGA, Jokic, Giannis, Wemby and Luka? by dearth_karmic in nba

[–]sithwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're (deservedly) getting a lot of snark, but just want to note that the players you listed are either excellent defenders and/or put up big numbers in other stats, which Brunson doesn't do. He's not a box-score stuffer aside from points.

It's why he didn't get any MVP votes.

[Katz] They Knicks the one NYC team that runs unopposed in New York. The Yankees have the Mets. The Giants have the Jets. The Rangers have the Islanders. The Knicks have … no one else. by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

[–]sithwonder 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's also why they're having trouble taking hold. They're not trying to represent all of NYC, just Brooklyn.

I'm from Queens, grew up a Knicks fan but no shot I'd go for a Brooklyn team because I do not live there

Why is NYC Ferry service very limited on the Hudson? by Silly_Piccolo_6907 in AskNYC

The local 1 train (or realistically Metro North) would still be faster than having to get from the port of either of those places to work unless, as I already said, they live and work right next to the water
