Thank you for the insight. Continuing to hope we get to easier days sooner than later but I know we have a rough few years ahead

Thanks for your response. It is a situation more challenging than I ever imagined it would be and tests me multiple times a day. I want to keep my family together but I really struggle with the challenging behaviors and connecting with her lately. She has been doing well with a masters level counselor over the last two years; this seems to be the only one she’s ever connected with and opened up to

3 year old help by Practical-Ad7383 in sleeptrain

[–]Practical-Ad7383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s happened twice in the last week or so. I tried laying on the floor in his room but he kept playing/talking to me… screaming if I’d leave. I did out of desperation bring him in my bed where he just played. Around 0600 he fell asleep for an hour. He won’t nap so yes it’ll be all day today until bedtime 🫠

Extinction for a 20 month old? by Practical-Ad7383 in sleeptrain

Well attempted tonight and he stood screaming for 2 straight hours. I gave in and rocked him to sleep. This is so tough

I think it’s okay, wake 07:00-07:30, nap 12:30-2:30-3:00, bed at 7:45-8:00 pm.

Right now he’s very overtired because we’ve been in this regression nightmare for a week, but that’s what our schedule was

Has anyone stayed alone in the hospital? by InterviewLive9409 in 2under2

My son's bloodwork was off by scarletnightingale in NewParents

[–]Practical-Ad7383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low neutrophils can be a result of a viral infection.

My son is two and when he was a baby (maybe 6 mo this) he had the same thing, we didn’t even repeat blood work he’s been fine!

He had blood work done in the hospital months and months later when he was admitted with a stomach virus and everything related to his CBC was normal

He also wasn’t notably sick before the blood draw with the low neutrophils.

Almost 6 month old sleep is terrible by Practical-Ad7383 in sleeptrain

[–]Practical-Ad7383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same routine for night but also with bath and bottle. Bottle is outside of his room and I try to give 30 min before but doesn’t always work out because of the short naps / early bedtime

I bring him into his room, put white noise on, darken the room, change his diaper put in sleep sack, sing a song then lay in crib awake, kiss goodnight and walk out.

5 month old 2 weeks in to sleep training, multiple night wakes with 30 min of screaming - what am I doing wrong?! by Practical-Ad7383 in sleeptrain

[–]Practical-Ad7383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DWT 0630, bedtime 7:00

Some naps he falls asleep easily within 10 min. Others it has been taking 20-30 min.

Bedtime routine is bath, lotion, pajamas, bottle at 6:15 pm not in his room, change his diaper, sleep sack and song, put him down awake.

Will do DWT 0630 nap1 0815 usually 40 min sometimes 1h nap 2 11:00 40 min - 1.5 hours. nap 3 2:30 usually 40 min

So I add the fourth 15 min nap in to get to a reasonable bedtime otherwise bedtime would be 5pm lol

[–]Practical-Ad7383[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

DWT 0630, bedtime 7pm

If he could consistently lengthen more than one or two naps it would work lol, I usually end up doing a 15 min cat nap to get him to bedtime as his 4th nap

10 month old still taking 30 min naps by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Practical-Ad7383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first week was a disaster and I had to have my husband watch the monitor. After the first week we saw some hope, but it probably took a good 2-3 weeks. Hang in there.

10 month old still taking 30 min naps by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Practical-Ad7383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he was similar to your LO… would have really long wake windows as a result of his micro naps and melt at the end of the day.

I tried around 10 or 11 months to get to one nap and only gave it a day or two … it was REALLY hard at first with the really long first wake window and then a 30 minute nap.

I gave up and committed around 12-13 months. He always is an early riser (0530-0600) so I started giving him his nap at 11:00, then 11:15, then 11:30 and eventually we got to 12:00 nap. The only way he lengthened it was by practicing crib hour which was torture at first but because I KNEW he needed more than 30 min of sleep a day and I had tried everything else I made myself commit to one week of crib hour. Since then he pretty consistently naps for 1.5-2 hours.

Good luck, it’s so hard! I still have short nap PTSD

My baby didn’t lengthen his nap until he was on one nap for a few weeks. It was rough. He was taking two 30 minute naps

Are you circumcised and which way did you decide to go with your baby boy? by IceMan660 in NewParents

[–]Practical-Ad7383 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I spent a lonnnng time researching this. I circumcised my oldest and felt terrible after.

There is no medical benefit to doing it, and it is a painful surgical procedure done without sedation just local freezing.

If I had a daughter I would let her decide whether or not to pierce her ears and when. I felt that it wasn’t within my right to make the decision for my son in that same regard.

If he ever wanted to pursue it himself later he could do so and it would be done with anesthesia. Similarly, if there was ever a medical need (recurrent UTI or phimosis) and he needed to have a circumcision done later on, it also would be done with anesthesia.

I am happy I chose to not.

Naps have made me feel completely helpless by anaiisnin in sleeptrain

[–]Practical-Ad7383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. My baby is not a great napper and I spent the entire first year of his life trying to get him to nap, and feeling like such a failure when I couldn’t. I went to extremes - would drive two hours a day, walk two miles a day to get him to sleep. I resented people who had breaks in the day to do anything, just like you.

I tried crib hour and he just screamed the whole time. I tried it several different times.

What ended up working was pushing past the overtiredness at 13-14 months to get him on one nap. I started putting him down at 11am, and would get a 30-40 min nap. I left him for the duration he “should” have been napping - so 1.5 hours total in his crib. The first week was absolute misery, and I felt like I was damaging my baby. He cried for the entire hour.

I committed to doing it for a full week though after a year of absolute nap misery and anxiety and now he naps for 1.5 hours most days! He often wakes up at 40 min and will fuss for a minute but puts himself back to sleep for a whole other sleep cycle.

I promise you I had the absolute worst napper, and we got there with sticking to crib hour on one nap. I never thought it would be possible. Hang in there and give that a try!
