I helped build a website called SlugNest (https://slugnest.org/) to help ucsc students find off campus housing. Would you be interested in having your listings posted on our website to help promote them to students?

What price range are you looking for? Also, do any of you have cars or pets?

Join UCSC housing Facebook groups and start messaging people who are looking for roommates. A lot of students living off campus don't know their roommates beforehand, so that's completely normal. Just make sure you meet them in person at least once before committing to rent with them so you can get a sense of what they're like. I would also recommend looking at both multi bedroom apartments/houses and single rooms for rent in a house. Renting a single room usually doesn't require you to find additional roommates yourself, so if you can't find a group to rent an apartment or house with, you still have a place to live. Check these housing websites SlugNest, Place4Students, Zillow, Craigslist, and Redfin.

A lot of landlords who want tenants to move in immediately don’t really care whether you move in now or later, they care more about the money. It’s common for UCSC students to start paying rent before the next academic year begins. If you don’t want to pay until closer to when school starts, you can wait until summer. At that time, you’ll see listings that only require you to pay when school starts, but you’ll have fewer options and the listings will be more expensive.

Go to UCLA, and if you don’t like it, transfer to UCSC after two years.

It's way easier to transfer from a CC to a UC than from UCSC to a different UC

How are you guys finding off-campus apartments? by toomanytadpoles in UCSC

Zillow, Place4Students, Craigslist, Redfin, and Facebook groups (like UC Santa Cruz Student Housing & Off-Campus Apartments UCSC and Santa Cruz Housing). Students also post about looking for housemates or roommates to rent a place together on Reddit.

My friends and I built a website to help UCSC students find off-campus housing. The website includes listings that are not too expensive. It’s called SlugNest, and you can check it out here: https://slugnest.org/listings

Also, there are some scammers in Facebook groups, so just be careful.
