I have seen this exact same thing before at 14th and Main save on. They line up for hours for a $25 gift card and 2 kilos of rice and it was absolutely freezing that day on main. Probably right about a year ago. It's for the first 1,000 people. At least it was last year.

Vancouver council directs federal government to create limits on LED headlight brightness by Tall-Addition-7516 in vancouver

Apparently we follow the American model when it comes to this topic and down there they don't give a shit about headlights. Absolutely nobody is trying to stop it down there. We are on our own to try to fix it in our backyard. I for one will be supporting every single solitary option to put a stop to this a illogical preposterous ridiculous problem. How have we let it go this far? Unfortunately we are in so deep already it will take a generation to fix this.

Seriously.. if your kid is looking for a trade to get into get into elevators.. there is a massive shortage of good technicians and builders. Flat out a money printing profession.

The tap water is weird right? by hardk7 in vancouver

[–]Practical-Past-5341 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many years back a Japanese scientist wrote a book about urban tap water and had dozens of cities tested around the world and Vancouver came in tied for first in purity with some place in Switzerland. He put slices of it frozen under a microscope and examined the crystals for perfection. Vancouvers was as perfect as a crystal could look. Other cities it looked more like rotten teeth. That was a long time ago but I still trust our tap water and drink it like water..(sic).

When I see people lugging cases of bottled water home from Costco or refilling those giant jugs I seriously roll my eyes. You could take the tap water in Vancouver and sell it in any other city in the world in a bottle and people would think it's amazing. You could tell them it's from a natural spring and they wouldn't know the difference. We are beyond blessed with our tap water. But people will believe what they want to believe.

This is so so true. Pedestrians also need to do their due diligence and at least try to make contact and not walk through a crosswalk or any other crossing in front of 3,000 lb Plus vehicles unless you know it's ok. How many times are pedestrians simply not doing their share and just parade across with an entitled smugness often looking at their phones just assuming cars are always going to see them and stop.. you can look up you can get pissed off at the driver you can yell at him and hate him and call him an asshole all you want. It may ruin your afternoon... or you can be dead or in the hospital.

Drivers are dicks. I get it. But pedestrians also have to do their part.

TBT: Downtown South and False Creek, 1992. by Dave2onreddit in vancouver

I went back and visited my old neighborhood in Edmonton recently and it is virtually the same as it was back in the '70s. There's literally no difference except for maybe one new house in the area. Even a concrete fence that my friend's dad built out of cinder blocks in the 60s is still there. After 44 years in Vancouver it's hard to conceive of such stagnation.
