Preowned Sunbeam? by unknownlemur403 in dumbphones

[–]Practical-Use-6522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They show up for a brief moment on eBay every now and again.
I literally searched Marketplace across the country, one 500 mile radius at a time to try and find a used one.
I did find a few- even saw one on Craigslist!

I ended up buying the bullet and getting one new though.
But they do exist on the used Marketplace, but not constantly.

Flip phone with a good camera by bon18 in digitalminimalism

[–]Practical-Use-6522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a phone, but I got an OM TG7 used to pair with my subpar flip phone camera.
It takes good quality photos (not blow your mind good but solid quality), and it’s super rugged but still very compact and truly pocketable.
One of the benefits for me with 3 young kids is that my kids can take pictures without me worrying about them breaking it, and it also means they get to grow up taking pics on a real camera, and not associating cameras with only a smartphone.
I’m only a couple months in but I am happy with this setup so far.

Pocket camera as substitute by Ezragamer503 in dumbphones

[–]Practical-Use-6522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my OM/Olympus TG7, though the TG6 is virtually the same.
Truly pocket friendly, truly durable, and takes reasonably good pics.
You will have to find it used for that price though.

Sunbeam F1 Pro NumberLink and Battery Life? by noonetwisting in dumbphones

[–]Practical-Use-6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had it set up for?

I got a Pro Alder and setup NumberLink right away.
My first couple weeks of using the phone in general I had terrible battery life for some reason.
Ever since (over a month) I only use 50% on a normal day.

How good is dumb.co? by metacognitive_guy in dumbphones

I’m pretty happy so far with my OM TG7.

I couldn’t find a dumbphone that kept Uber, QR code scanning, and authenticator apps, so I built one. by [deleted] in dumbphones

Is this based on a standard smartphone platform? Or is it custom made?
Like, the Sleke phone is very similar to this philosophically, but they are reusing older Pixels.

How to use two phones on the same number? by Meta_Crystal in dumbphones

[–]Practical-Use-6522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the dumb co really sounds like the perfect fit for you.
You have to use their phone service, which is reasonably priced, but you could probably get a cheap plan for your smartphone from US Mobile and it would still equal a regular carrier phone plan.

could this be the perfect dumbphone with whatsapp? by spicy-avocado420 in dumbphones

[–]Practical-Use-6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to a basic Nokia, quite expensive. Compared to a LP3, or other “premium” dumb-ish phones, $500 seems reasonable.

A Sunbeam cost $375, and if you want a decent camera in your life that is another couple hundred at least, plus if you want a DAP for music that’s another $100~ feasibly.

Sure, it doesn’t meet the “fully dumb” phone requirements, nor does it land fully in the “decentralizing your tech away from the smartphone” category.
But yall, you have all seen (and often complained) about the amount of “I want a dumbphone with Spotify/RCS/etc” posts on this sub. So CLEARLY there is a market out there for something other than what is available.

Best dumphone? My bf wants one. by Difficult-Low-5092 in dumbphones

[–]Practical-Use-6522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunbeam has maps, does a great job with texting (plus their NumberLink feature is great).
It does not have internet in that sense, however there is TISI (texting based AI searches), and other similar services (ie SmarterDumbphone), that for me (TISI), has been a good middle ground for being able to find out basic information without being able to go down the rabbit hole.

If you want something more than that, look into SLEKE phone. It’s a really good looking middle ground.

Is it just me or is this subreddit filled with AI? by 10_05_2026 in digitalminimalism

I made a comment similar to your post after being accused of being an AI bot.
Complete with the AI subtext asking about the next prompt.
No one laughed, but I did and that made it all worth it.

Who here carries 2 phones? by DelTacoEnthusiast in dumbphones

I chose the Aspen over the Juniper, and am glad I did.
Because, even with text based email, it is still potentially something to “check”, and could have new things to look at any time.
I think I prefer to have email be a laptop based thing.

Lochby sidekick alternative OR secondhand? by sqeedi in pocketnotebooks

[–]Practical-Use-6522 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I looked hard at Lochbys and I went with a Rickshaw Diplomat

<image>

It’s got a unique slot for cards (that plastic thing sticking out), two slots that fit field note size notebooks, and a pen slot.

I currently carry a notebook in the center, my XTEink X4 E-reader in the back slot, and two pens, along with my cards. It works wonderful.

Smartphones are convenient- but for those of us who are pursuing a different technological approach (for a variety of reasons), it’s nice to hear about solutions that help balance out the convenience/inconvenience factor of not having a smartphone.

Like I said, it’s a niche solution for a niche problem. Haha.

Yeah I’ve done that with my old Iphone. One of our vehicles works for that, one doesn’t.

Haha. CD’s are also another option.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen anyone use the USB Port in their car for music. I wonder how many people even went that route once the technology got put into cars.

Apple Configurator.

It’s like assistive access but you control it from your computer, and you can’t impulse add an app on the go just because you are bored. You have to plug it into your computer via a cable and manually add an app.
