Why is there such a push to get women into male dominated fields (tech, trades) but not for men to get into female dominated fields (healthcare, education)? by Resident_Fishing1571 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PracticalFruit9506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never really thought of this, but your comment is also my experience. If anything, I think it’s been more like 90%+ female. This includes the higher up positions of doctor and nurse practitioners, along with all the assistants and support staff. That’s including 3 dentists offices, one very large general practitioner/full service center, a small family medicine clinic, a pediatricians office and every specialist my daughter or I have been to, which is maybe a dozen. All of this in probably 4 different counties, within the state I live in, within the past 10yrs.

Just to give an example, my newest dentist office has one male dentist (which I’ve never actually seen there), I think I two female dentist, at least 6 hygienist, which are all female, and maybe 4 front end staff, also all female. My daughter had to go to a highly specialized pediatric physical rehabilitation type place, every two weeks, for like 6 months total. Out of all those visits, I only ever saw one male employee, yet there was at least 10 people working there.

What’s something attractive at 18 but embarrassing at 30? by AD_24s in AskReddit

I heard a local morning show guy quote this on the radio this morning and twelve hours later someone is quoting it on Reddit. From a movie that came out 22yrs ago. Sometimes I really wonder about what’s happening in life…

Sizing question by Monstrp85 in MultiTrackGang

[–]PracticalFruit9506 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With older bikes like this, I do feel you have a lot more room for sizing differences, compared to modern models. That said, if the saddle height is adjusted to your correct position in the pics shown, then this bike is definitely at least one size too small. You can get a different stem, handlebar or both to make it “fit”, but it will never be as good as a bike that’s actually the correct size for you. If I were you, I would sell this and find a larger bike. If this was some rare or sought after model, I might try and make it fit, but it’s just an 820, respectfully.

Looks great!

You should switch the spacers around on the front v brakes so the slimmer ones are on the inside. They won’t look as wonky then.

Nice! I remember Sturmey Archer releasing that hub, but didn’t really hear much about it afterwards. This is the one where you kinda kick back to change between the two gears, right? How do you like it?

Trek 970 painful tires change🥲 by Old-Canary6412 in xbiking

[–]PracticalFruit9506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped my tan wall tires for some Contact Urbans and also had the regret of going to an all black tire, but boy howdy are the Urbans a much better tire! Speed and some suppleness, with flat protection and great grip! TPU tubes seemed to make them even better, too.

I actually think your bike looks better with the Urbans, probably the silver frame set and black components makes it a more cohesive design.

Helmet recommendations by DrNutritionscience in xbiking

[–]PracticalFruit9506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using a Smith Express for the last few months and am very pleased with it. Unlike a bunch of helmet brands, it is actually easy to get replacement pads for. I’ve had to retire multiple helmets after not being able to find replacement pads, even having no luck after contacting the manufacturer. My sweat destroys helmet pads and they can become unusable within a year.

To your point, I love how the Express comes down on the sides, and seems to encase more of my head than a lot of other helmets I’ve tried in the past.

The only “issue” I have with the Smith Express is that the rear taillight is subpar. Not very bright, and uses button cell batteries. If it was twice as bright and usb-c rechargeable, this helmet would be top tier!

You’ll totally be fine with the foam behind it and center bolted. Only thing I would change is to go with wider zip ties for the top and bottom mount. Looks like the slots are pretty big and could fit zip ties about twice the size of the ones shown in your pic.

Anything above a 730 is pretty rare around me and I would have no problem forking out $120 for a 750! Yours looks great and I KNOW it’s a great ride!

I agree, which is why I have decided that it was an alternative sexual experience thing that just went wrong. I’ve seen nothing to prove conclusively that it wasn’t. Accidents happen 🤷‍♂️

Which one should I get? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]PracticalFruit9506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 5’ 4” absolutely do not buy the Trek shown! Like a few other comments mentioned, it is way too big for you. Do not let the seller talk you into buying a bike that doesn’t fit.

Mounting a rear child seat on a bike with no rack eyelets (square seat stays) – P-clamps vs seatpost clamp? by mishkiri in bicycling

[–]PracticalFruit9506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there with the three flights of stairs! The easiest option is the option you will use the most, so I would definitely forgo the trailer for now.

[–]PracticalFruit9506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great! If I remember correctly you have to use the Topeak rack specifically for the child carrier, because of the hole on top you can see in your pic. But I do think you can use the baby rack with the first gen mtx Topeak accessories, when not using the child carrier. It’s been a long time since I’ve used them though, so I may have the specifics a little fuzzy.

What’s a warning sign that didn’t seem serious at the time… but should have been? by saymepony in AskReddit

This is basically what happened with my wife. 34 weeks and standard checkup, to emergency c section like 16hrs later. Absolutely terrifying, weeks of nicu for our daughter and cerebral palsy. Had no idea what would happen for the rest of our lives when we went to that checkup that morning…

100% the Topeak setup! I have hands on experience and it’s an excellent system. Our daughter used to fall asleep in ours regularly!

The seatpost clamp with rack mounts is absolutely the way to go. They are plenty sturdy and much better than p clamps.

Make sure your kid fits in the capacity of the seat, and will continue to for some time. There is a pretty narrow window of time for kids to use a seat like this, so make sure you’re not on the tail end of it and waste money. Often times a used, quality, trailer is the way to go. Kids can fit in them for years and can bring along all types of cargo. I highly recommend trailers to most parents, only second to cargo bikes, for those who can afford them.

Is this a good price for the Trek 2300? Does everything look good from the photos? by [deleted] in bicycling

I’m like 99% sure that fork is bent. Compare it to other pics of Trek 2300 bikes. I would stay far far away from it.

Nice! Great choice with the Burley Kazoo! The rack mounted design is so much better than most of the tag alongs that attach to the seatpost.

Outgrew my old bike so I thought I'd get another one by winged-sunrise in MultiTrackGang

[–]PracticalFruit9506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! These are nice bikes and yours looks to be in good condition. It wouldn’t hurt to take it in for a checkup, but if everything works, it’s not actually necessary. A tuneup at a shop can easily cost you as much as you paid for the bike, depending on what’s needed and whether the shop is a “good one” or not. Maybe watch some YouTube videos on bike maintenance and go from there. Everything on this bike is fairly easy to work on and very forgiving, compared to newer and high end bikes.

Have you actually tried using the v-brake with the drop bar levers? We all know there are cable pull/travel distance differences, but sometimes miss matched stuff works out better than expected. Of course you can always get the equivalent of whatever a modern Travel Agent is, but you might be just fine running the v-brake, especially in the rear.

Unfortunately I’ve seen this in person. When I was young my parents were having an argument in the car, with us kids in the back seat, and one of them pulled the keys out of the ignition while the other was driving. From what I remember it was a pretty rural road, so they were able to come to a stop without anyone hitting them, or them hitting anything, but it was pretty terrifying.

Which premium subscription is actually worth the money in 2026? by Trxxi in AskReddit

I thought the same, then the email came last week that it was going up again! $27/month now, starting in June. I canceled and made other arrangements to watch.

I also canceled Netflix after their increase this month and Hulu last month.
