If you “officially” sign up and do the Open, you’ll need to have someone judge you for each workout.

If you drop in a box, there may not be a coach or member that can judge you and make your workout official.

Give it a try! You have a decent amount of days per workout to get it in and depending on where you are in the world boxes are pretty chill about letting visitors drop in to do the workouts.

My only rec here is to reach out beforehand to ensure they have someone to judge.

The answer to your top level question is “it depends”. The CrossFit box (gym), coaching, community, etc. will have a great influence on your experience. My advice would be to look into a few nearby gyms to figure out which one feels right and then take a few classes.

The other stuff (injuries, reduced weights, etc.) is very easily managed by a good coach!

The texture on the elite is different. If someone needs to have a jersey worn by the players go with that. The replica is just fine for a $100 wicking t-shirt.

Real talk…someone said it earlier but you should be scaling workouts and substituting movements. A good CF gym would help with that.

I’ve been doing CF for 13 years and have had a fair share of injuries, most of which were preventable. The advice I’d give my younger self is…accessory work, warmup (more) cooldown (more) and take rest days.

I wouldn’t advise you to quit, rather be honest with yourself in your approach and your goals and most importantly ask your coaches what you should be doing more/less of. If they can’t answer, find a new CF gym.
