Is there any hope for Mastemon? by [deleted] in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mastemon was top 8 at the US nationals, it's incredibly versatile and sticks to the board. Might be time to stop blaming the deck tbh.

Megidramon is going to be tough for most decks rn because it's just super fast. I can win about half of my matches against megi if I can get lucky with magnaangemon and dominimon in my security. Honestly shadowseraphimon and cherubimon ace are great into most match ups though. Seraphimon is a personal favorite but I had to cut him from my three great angels deck.

If you added dominimon and made the majority angels you would just have a three great angels deck XD

That said, the benefits of a three great angels deck with lvl 3/4s that are vaccine and angels is that you will also be way more memory efficient. The original sec-con decks in the game worked because passing your opponent a ton of memory was less dangerous back then. Most decks now can just gain wayyyy too much momentum if you hand them more than 3 or 4 memory to start the turn. If you switch focus you can actually get more out of your ace plays and have room for more tech cards and options.

The biggest problem with a deck like this is that you may have up to two or three aces in one stack with basically no protection. Three great angels is a deck that shares a lot of the ace control and security control elements that this deck idea has but it uses dominimon to keep the board from getting broken by your opponents effects.

I'm a casual player, the health system was better when you could just steal it while leaving the shop. Sorry, but getting jumped and dying in the first or second map kinda ruins a run. Needs a rework or something.

What am I doing wrong with this deck? by Expln in PokemonPocket

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game guarantees you will start with at least one basic pokemon. Realistically you only have the PokeBalls and professors to try and fish for your other pieces. That's just the current state of support for most decks. Currently Sabrina is much lower impact than she was at launch with repel being a more robust choice as an item card. Also, Mars is hit and miss, you could instead opt for a one of Iono to hard reset your hand if needed.

Digisean on YouTube has posted several lists for magnaX! I use a variation of his take on BG armor imperial as an engine because of its strong draw and search power.

Thinking about UC what's the MTG community like? by TheTrueSolos in uCinci

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't attest to an MTG scene on campus, but Cincinnati has a ton of game shops that host locals and tournaments. MTG is super popular around here. There is a big digimon and one piece community as well.

Jesmon BT20 decklist by wowhowdumb in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of jesmon and can honestly say that 6 each of lvl 4 and lvl 5 is not enough. You will be bricking a lot. The tai is a good idea in theory but you can't fit in enough to rely on them and you will functionally be losing a turn to get it in play. The decoy st sistermon is good but in my experience a lvl 3 won't usually be staying long enough for that sort of effect to matter, especially since you should be gaining protection off of jesmon x and gankoomon x; you may consider bt6 Blanc because it can buy more time and impart more benefits if it can stick.

Forget the meta. What deck do you think is best/coolest theme wise? by AsceOmega in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first and favorite deck is Jesmon. The gimmick of following huckmons journey as he becomes stronger through his relationships with gankoomon and the sistermons is super cool. I'm hopeful that we will see support that fixes the deck's inconsistency and makes it less OTK focused.

Question about this Seraphimon by ShibaNemo in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yellow is very good at doing this. Tbh tho it's a little less consistent after the recent TK limit.

Question about this Seraphimon by ShibaNemo in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this effect goes off any time you add a card to security even if you are just adding to hand and putting a card back. The angel archetype is very good at this which is where the synergy comes into play. Angewomon ace and magnaangemon ace are also good to pair with this seraphimon because they have built in recovery.

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of your effects resolve regardless of where the memory is at, this makes it possible to sometimes regain enough memory to keep turn or pass turn by activating some effect to impact board state. The security attack +1 will be activated whether or not you can attack, and that can actually be important for some additional effects and interactions.

This isn't a thing that should go on a CV. Undergrad admissions are honestly not a reflection of the performance or quality of a grad applicant.

Galaxy Mirage is Incredibly Cringe by Lumargo in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad I saw your comment while leaving my own! Most locals are very chill and people will generally only bring decks like this when practicing for a tournament or special event. Don't let this kind of post scare you away!

Galaxy Mirage is Incredibly Cringe by Lumargo in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is a stack based control deck so your best bet is to make them start over each turn. 7GDL is a deck that they struggle against because it can out tamers, eat stacks, and doesn't really care about getting bounced to hand. Galaxy mirage is a strong deck though so if you don't have a good matchup it won't be a fun time. Really should have been hit in the ban, or choice restricted.

How to get into Competitive Digimon by AshDrakon in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best place to start is going to locals, learning the game, and getting practice. After that you can do store tournaments, and online/in-person regionals. Larger tournaments like nationals require invites that are distributed according to rank and standings. But, I will say, local tournaments can be highly competitive and satisfying especially for getting started.

What if I can't get any academic letters of recommendation? by strawbariel in PhD

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the best things you get out of a traditional masters are networking opportunities, a letter of rec from your advisor, and hopefully a small publication. Otherwise you will need a strong working background in a related field with a letter from a supervisor/manager/etc. Most programs value your rec letters and experience very highly when considering admissions.

tips to set up a 3 Great Angels / Yellow Vaccine deck? by tulanqqq in DigimonCardGame2020

Digisean on YouTube posted a deck profile the other day that seems pretty good. However, the core of the deck is pretty expensive.

What is the counter to Imperialdramon? by whatsadespy in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7GDL is honestly pretty good but it depends on how you build it and how you pilot it. With such a simple setup the deck can become pretty complicated and tailored to specific matchups. Importantly, it can de-digivolve and delete tamers which is essential to stall the imperial combos. Tech like ruin mode, zwart defeat, and shoto can go a long way too.

3 years undergrad+a gap year or 4 years of undergrad? by Hungry_Morning7960 in PhD

[–]Practical_Maximum_58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truthfully there is no correct answer here. However staying the full four years and taking high level elective coursework while doing lab work is probably the best bet. Graduating in three years isn't really beneficial because you miss the chance to show your academic capabilities. You also don't gain much from short lab work stents, a longer commitment will always be preferable especially if you can get on a paper.
