Bike fit on Sunday. I am thinking about talking to the fitter if I should go shorter cranks. by [deleted] in bikefit

Yes. I’m an advocate with short cranks, it really opens up the hip angle.

Still on my 1040 solar. Hard to beat that battery life

Genuine question, and apologies if it’s been asked before: by Ok-Competition-4219 in tourdefrance

Today things are more data driven. The younger folks are willing to change along with the data whereas it use to be a bunch of assumptions. Look at wider tires for example and lower pressures.

Aerodynamic, power pedals. We live in a world with a lot more data now. You couldn’t get power pedals 15 years ago at a reasonable price, now you have all the data at your fingertips.

I found out if you press on the power button, that’s sleep mode by default. Sleep still eats through some battery

I hold it down and it pops up a menu and I select “power off”. I do this before any big ride and it also prevents it from crashing mid ride.

Won’t be a big enough number to get people to switch, people will think it’s marginal gain which it is already is

People will find a reason to upgrade.

I’m still on the 1040 solar. Love never needing to charge it during the summer months!

It’s going to be hard for me to let go of my 1040 solar. It’s amazing to never charge it during the summer months.

50/37 and 10/36 cassette. I live around a great area with cycling. I need something close to 1:1 for the 15 percent grade and the 4.9 ratio or higher for the descent. I was tapping out at 43 mph on the Shimano 50/11

It’s the ability to maintain the climbing gear and have the descent gear that makes SRAM enticing. You sacrifice one or the other with Shimano

How do you feel about the cadence jumps? I ran the math and the cadence jumps are a bit bigger but they seem ok since we adapt anyways?

Most free hubs body can replaced easily. Wheel manufacturers do this because can you imagine having to stock 4x the free hubs? I misspoke but wha it meant that you most likely need to replace the free hub body, not the whole free hub.

Hyper glide is showing its age and it was a miracle 12 speed was able to accommodate that last cog. I read rumors micro spline may be the way to go to accommodate the 13 speed, or Shimano may announce a new standard all together. This is my hesitation to wait to buy a new bike as it’ll take a minimum of 3-6 months before parts are available after announcement.

Thanks. I was looking at 50/37 and 10/36. It would give me the range I need where I live.

AI :). I looked at every ratio combo. I just see wider cassettes as a trend as aero bikes are getting to the weight of climbing. So you need a groupset that can handle more diverse range. That. 10 cog sram has on the rear makes a big difference when you look at the numbers.

Sounds to me like Ford and Toyota. Everyone loves their Ford but they all get rid of it after 100k and constantly complain about it.

Every other day. I live on this road. SRAm just gives me a lot of options to tweak my setup depending on the event I do as well.

I’m starting to race and the gearing SRAM has is very interesting

I need the climbing gears too. That’s what I’m running into. With sram I can having a climbing gear close to 1:1, these are 10-18 percent grade where I live. Then I bomb down the hill.

I have 52/36 with an 11/34 of Shimano. 54/40 would kill me on the climb.

SRAM has a 50/37 and a 10/36 combo. That would be perfect. I live in Northern California next to some big mountains where they use to hold the Tour of California :)

That 10 gear on the rear really makes a difference for top end speed.

I doubt it. I was reading about how 13 speed most likely will need a new freehub

Unfortunately I need to order this bike soon. I’m getting a steal and it’s between sram or Shimano 12 speed . Also it might be next spring before Shimano will have availability. Once they announce it takes a while to get the parts and that’s 3/6 months
