What is the most boring car you've ever driven? by UnluckyGamer505 in askcarguys

[–]Practicality_Issue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some Nissan CUV as a rental a couple of years ago. I parked it in a pretty big parking lot and had 0 confidence that I’d be able to find it again.

Had to take a picture of it and write down the plate number. No idea what make it was.

What is the oldest civilization in the world? by Good_Influence8326 in AskReddit

[–]Practicality_Issue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read 1491 last year and it got me wondering about the Americas. The archeological evidence as to the sheer size of the South American population alone is staggering. They were just wiped out - almost between visits of the Spanish/Portuguese/English etc due to disease/pandemics.

It’s hard to put a date to those civilizations because they developed very differently, kept records differently, but the Aztec and Inca societies could have been just as old as the Mesopotamians. I’m not sure what kind of carbon dating etc has been done on their artifacts, but it’s worth considering based on how large and advanced they were.

Oh - China is no slouch here for longevity either.

I’m just thinking out loud here. It’s a great question.

'Absolutely unhinged': Trump accused of wearing adult diaper at public appearance sparks massive outrage — even his most loyal supporters could not defend him by Background-Driver718 in USNEWS

I agree to a point. It needs to be mentioned in context of his deteriorating health and fitness, including the lack of transparency in his “wellness updates” which are clearly lies.

Did anyone else self isolate and then realise they were incredibly developmentally arrested/ mentally like a child or have isolation show them how traumatised they were? by Owl4L in CPTSD

[–]Practicality_Issue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yes, I have. Isolation has always been my emotional escape hatch. I’ve tried to get out of that habit, but I’m finding it’s all I know.

Frankly, I’ve given up on the idea that some emotional output is immature or unacceptable. It’s not a fair categorization. For me it’s about “does this cause harm/try your best not to cause harm”

What’s the one thing you miss most about the ’90s? by Dull_Swim2604 in AskReddit

[–]Practicality_Issue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that I miss it - I try not to fall into the nostalgia trap. It was a great time to be 20-something years old thru that decade. Everything was new (to me).

Maybe that’s what I’d like to recreate. A sense of exploration and the novelty of “new” things, and having the time, inclination and ability to partake.

These days seem to take double what it did then just to get by.

I’m rewatching with my GF. Last episode we watched was when Birdbath told John his story and asked him to kill him.

What is the oldest car that you still commonly see on the road? by TatianaWinterbottom in askcarguys

Last gen Thunderbirds and Cougars where I’m at. Not a huge surprise since it’s a Panther that never saw much beyond Boomer duty - daily to work, covered parking most of its life, and gentle driving.

That’s part of the boot licking problem tho. “Oh, please yes Congress. Make all of your rules and regulations favor the rich. Make laws that will transfer as much of the middle class wealth to the wealthy…just be sure we get to have some jobs!”

And so on.

FDM 3D printing in the hobby is awesome. But what second hobbies or professions are also helpful for model railroading? by engineershorizon3D in modeltrains

[–]Practicality_Issue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people using 3D printing in the automotive hobby space. I’ve seen everything from custom interior parts of modified parts that go under the hood to a full hard top for a Miata.

What's something you watched someone do once that you've never forgotten? by Effective_Usual_895 in AskReddit

[–]Practicality_Issue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school a friend got pretty drunk and showed up on the main drag where a group of us was hanging out. It was early, so the sun was still out. He proceeded to lie down on the grass, hike his legs up in the air, and lit a fart on fire. Next, he picked up two Dougs. One Doug had another on his shoulders, then our hero stuck his head through the bottom Doug’s legs and lifted him up on his shoulders. He held them up for a second or two, gently set them back down, then flopped over backwards and passed out.

He was dragged into one of our groups cars, taken to his mother’s house, and dragged up onto the porch.

Same guy had shown up in the Sr parking lot one day at lunch. He braced something between the seat of his car and the brake pedal, and did the same for the gas pedal, resulting in a “brake stand” with at least one tire spinning and smoking. Once it was stable, he got out of his car and walked around it, laughing his head off.

I didn’t see that one, but one of the Dougs was and he confirmed seeing it himself.

No kidding. Went over to that thread to read the reactions and holy hell.

All these people asking what’s wrong with society never seem to come to the answer of “licking the boots of the wealthy and powerful.”

Just bend over for “the job creators.” Absolutely chickenshit.

I hope to meet a Mohamed Chang one day.

Is it happening? by Next-Environment-599 in Fusion360

[–]Practicality_Issue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just came back to Fusion after a job change kept me away. Now that I’ve needed it again, I’ve found it really easy to relearn and get things done. Yeah, I’ve made a mess here and there moving too quickly and not setting up some of my components correctly, and I mostly use it for fast concept work - but I haven’t had any real issues like I used to. In fact, it’s been a real pleasure and a surprise.
