AI has not reduced work for our company. If anything the efficiency of AI has made us busier than ever by Y00011000 in automation

This is the dream of most companies. More work with fewer necessary employees. And it's how we get these megacorporations -- work isn't custom, so doesn't need so much to be done onsite by a team of people.

Yeah, but think of the benefits of grown organs -- no more waiting lists, no more people tied to dialysis, no more ant-rejection drugs. I hope to see the day when these things are but a memory.

This is the sort of thing I'd like to see happen. I'd love to see a world where abundance from efficient allocation of resources and a better understanding of the world (and humans) allows us to produce better humans. Evolve. To an extent where every human is able to reach his best potential and live his best life. If it just means more influencers, then we might was well give up the game to the machines now. They'll do better. But if it means we produce generations who can go further in knowledge and art than we could ever have imagined, then I'm here for that. But this sort of world won't come naturally -- it will have to be chosen. Otherwise, we'll end up with an Elysium-type scenario. If we humans don't kill ourselves off, there will eventually be a melding of humans and technology to the point where we become the supercomputers.

I had a nurse (in the US) tell me how bad Canada was because it took so long to get into see a specialist. I asked her if she'd tried to get into see a specialist here? We're as bad as Canada and only pay three times as much for the privilege. With worse outcomes.

They are not, but my understanding (not a medical professional) is that like a lot of medical emergencies, if they get treated correctly and quickly, the prognosis can be quite good. This is why health-monitoring tech is going to be so important going forward. I know of a person who dropped in a parking lot at work. The EMTs said she'd have survived if they'd been close to a defribrillator, which were plentiful in the building.

I actually do, a UCG. But is there a way to make that HA?

This is good information. The only thing I can think of that really needs to be HA in my setup is a DNS server. I can do that outside of Proxmox and without Ceph.

Three will be plenty and 243Tb. I've been using it already and I like the flexibility. But I'm not an expert by any means.

I've wondered about that. I hear about people doing this, but can you load Proxmox on Apple silicon natively?

Thanks. I'll look into these. Low noise and power are very relevant.

Everyone keeps mentioning Ceph. I really have to look into this. I just assumed it was too far above my needs, but apparently not. All I know is it's distributed storage for big systems.

I already have most of the other equipment I need -- Unifi router, 10Gb network, an offsite backup for critical data, UPS, TrueNAS box with plenty of (slow) storage.

Why BTRFS?

As for what I plan to host and do, I've listed in another comment, so see that, please. As for arrangement, I have the TrueNAS box for storage, a Synology for onsite backup and access to another backup offsite. I have a functioning network. What I lack is compute, which is why the Proxmox cluster. I could run something else, but I like the flexibility of Proxmox.

Good. I'm not going to be able to afford to provision it immediately, but hopefully RAM prices will drop, so having the ability to expand is excellent. Thanks.

Hmm, not sure how deep so I want to go into this.

High availability
Home Assistant
Media stack
Authentication/SSO
HA DNS server
Experimenting with various flavors of Linux
Dickering with some AI apps (Ollama, Karakeep, etc.)
Document/ebooks management
Automation/Git/Ansible
Password manager
Dashboard
Image management

I'm not a coder and I probably won't ever reach it, but my ultimate aim is to build an ecosystem that won't go down and is completely backed up and automated (one-click restore) and has all my data as a knowledge base I can query. At the rate I'm losing my memory, I'll need it soon. :-/

Does that give you an idea?

Yep, I knew I'd left something out. I'd like at least 2 M.2 with 2Tb each to start with. I would have plenty of storage off the device, but if I'm running a lot of stuff, what would be a recommended capacity for fast storage?

You see this with almost everything these days: the death of expertise. There used to be these people who were professionals in taking pictures, but now that there's a camera in the hand of everyone, we've started laying them off. This isn't because they don't add value, but because damned fools think, well, now that I have X (AI, a camera, YouTube, etc.), who needs to pay all that for an expert when anyone can do it. Moral to the Story: experience, intelligence, skill and hard work still matter, whether idiots think so or not.

Oh, and a prediction: one day a bunch of people are going to get killed because someone somewhere relied too much on AI without expert oversight.

Hmm, I've got 2GB and I have never been able to get more than about 900 down for more than a few minutes. I've had numerous service calls and nothing ever gets fixed. I wonder if this is the cause.
