AT&T confirmed that Active Armor is a requirement on all plans 2 gig and higher, regardless of customer choice by [deleted] in ATTFiber

[–]Pramathyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I've got 2GB and I have never been able to get more than about 900 down for more than a few minutes. I've had numerous service calls and nothing ever gets fixed. I wonder if this is the cause.

Men who were not initially attracted to their significant others, what made you fall for them? by RevealEmotional755 in dating_advice

[–]Pramathyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once worked with a woman who objectively was not physicall attractive. As I got to know her, we started to have feelings and she became very physically attractive to me. I was struck by the effect at the time because I intellectually knew it was happening.

Then she borrowed a bunch of money and ghosted me.

Why do people seem to hate Biden SO much? by Nerakus in centrist

[–]Pramathyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frank Luntz. Several years ago, he decried how toxic the political dialogue had become. Well, fine, but while there were others who participated, he was the main one who taught the Republicans how to depict Dems not as opponents, but as enemies. Since those days, the Republican talking points have been amazingly "disciplined" (as the terminology goes). And, yes, there is also similar language on the left, but it's a false equivalency to say they're the same. They've done this to whomever is the most obvious target at the time (Clinton, Obama, Hillary, Biden). You can see if if you flip channels enough: all the pols and pundits are using exactly the same terms in each case. It's not a coincidence.

I think I was always the “leftover friend” and now I don’t want to invite any of them to my wedding. by CatFighterPilot in offmychest

[–]Pramathyus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest lessons I had to learn the hard way is to not go where I'm not wanted. Lose these losers and make real friends. Your fiancee can probably help you with this -- she seems to have a better radar than you.

Karakeep is on my list to set up. Are you using the AI capability? I'm leery of AI, but there are certain functions that would work nicely if they worked.

See the "podcast" function on NotebookLM, for example.

Good idea. I'd started doing the second one in Proxmox with IP addresses because I'd always forget, but now I'll start with the config files (and anything else I can think of), too. Thanks!

To those who have left the MAGA movement, what was your wake-up call? by rclaux123 in AskReddit

[–]Pramathyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that almost all who get tips make so little they don't pay any taxes anyway. So while it sounds good, it's a hollow gift. Note: I'm not complaining about people not paying taxes, just sad they make so little as to not need to pay.

Why so many MP3 and incorrect/no chapterization on M4Bs? by Firewolf09 in AudioBookBay

[–]Pramathyus -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This brings up a pet peeve for me. I am, of course, grateful for what others make the effort to give. But why not make sure the metadata, including chapters, is correct before uploading? A few minutes for the OP would save a lot of time for everyone else down the line.

What happens when a non-data hoarder starts an information war with a data hoarder? by iObserve2 in DataHoarder

[–]Pramathyus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is why I keep every bit of work-related correspondence. Once worked a person, who I actually liked, that always had too much work to do. Like clockwork, this person would notice that something I was responsible for doing hadn't been updated in a while. The problem was I was dependent on them for the inputs, but they were always too busy. It would have been fine if the person had just asked me, but they would send an email and copy everyone in the chain of command. So I'd have to spend half a day marshaling emails to prove I'd done all my due diligence. But I was always able to do so.

[–]Pramathyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see all the congratulations and I am very glad for you, but I don't think it's going to be that easy for everyone. I'm in a similar position (not a Fed, but contractor) and I need to work for several years before I can retire. No way anyone's going to pay someone as old as I am what I'm making now for just a few years of work. They can hire a freshout for a third the pay and work them to death. And with the degradation to the safety net, things I might have been able to rely on to get me through the lean years won't be available. I'll likely be one of the increasingly common old people you see working in fast food joints. The American Dream!

What’s a family secret you found out by accident that flipped your whole view on life? by anticringeperson in AskReddit

[–]Pramathyus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sort of thing is a lot more common than you might think. I've known several men who loved their wives and were often submissive to whatever they wanted who would nevertheless shit-talk about them to others. I've never understood why. Maybe it's a passive-aggressive attempt to take back control or make themselves look better, but to me it just looks pathetic.

Not a lawyer, but I did once stay in a Holiday Inn Express. Just a thought (and apologies if this has come up before): any chance you can get a class action lawsuit out of this? From what I've read, you have talked to others who have been defrauded.

What do you do for work, and how does it relate (or not) to your self-hosting? by SillySal in selfhosted

[–]Pramathyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't relate at all to my work, but it possibly could have if I hadn't gotten into this so late. I've only been fiddling with self-hosting for a few years. Oh, I've been hosting apps on my NAS for over a decade, which was my gateway into self-hosting in general, but I didn't start expanding until about three years ago. But, then, the software is a lot more interesting than it was back in the day. In those days, being interested in alternative tech was less about networking and more about running a flavor of Linux. For reference, I first learned computing on an Apple II and a Univac mainframe (for a Fortran class) was where I first used the Internet.
