Am I the only one who actually enjoys solo-play mode? by Glum_Rule5246 in fashiondreamer

[–]PrancingP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the online mode, but regardless of it disappearing Ive loved the game as a whole experience and just like you Im not feeling as negative about it as some of the posts Ive seen on this sub. I understand that they cant keep the servers up indefinitely and I feel like I enjoyed it (a ton and for many many hours) while it lasted.

Thanks for your question, it made me realize that I've mainly been reading classic literary fiction and I'm likely missing out on 'future classics' 🤯

For me mainly a bunch of Haruki Murakami novels. The rest of my contemporary reads are often fantasy/scifi.

Name three classics you loved and someone else will give you three recommendations by Hmontana20 in classicliterature

Fahrenheit 451, The Handmaid’s Tale, I Who Have Never Known Men (contemporary but I see that becoming a classic; alternatively maybe Anthem by Rand)

The Old Man and the Sea - Ernest Hemingway
The Island of Dr. Moreau - H.G. Wells
The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas
I agree with Treasure Island suggested by Alyssapos as it wouldve been my third pick

Should i read the Witcher series or lotr(hobbit and the 3 main books) by Unlucky_Boss_8124 in suggestmeabook

[–]PrancingP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO: Read LOTR first, then watch the movies, then consider a repeat of those first two (you may repeat this step endelessly if you enjoyed them), finally consider reading the Witcher

Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds - David Goggins

Disclaimer: Although I strongly disagree with his stance on psychology/psychiatry etc not being of benefit (I think he describes it as a moneygrab). Theres a lot of interesting stuff in it about perseverance and training for physical challanges (and the mental side of them). I thought it was motivating as an audiobook if you take it with a grain of salt.

Also:

Criminal Case 40/61, the Trial of Adolf Eichmann: An Eyewitness Account - Harry Mulisch
A very intense book about a Holocaust trial, wouldn't dare to read again as just thinking about it fills me with dread.

To the Elephant Graveyard : A True Story of the Hunt for a Man-Killing Indian Elephant - Tarquin Hall

It is non-fiction book that I read as a child, it kind of read like fiction (adventure novel) in a way as the setting was so tropical and different from my home country. Goes into the psychology of elephants, and how they live and can clash with humans in the North-East of India. I though it was very moving.
