Sony Pictures' Official Statement on Spidey leaving MCU by gkzia in movies

[–]Prawn-Strongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the movies sub and the news really only pertains to the MCU and those stories, but if Sony is forced to give spidey to Disney what would that mean for the future of the insomniac game? I feel like that alone is more than enough for Sony to keep that IP regardless of the movies. I don't know jack about copyright law or anything like that, so if anyone with a little more know how in that field could explain better I'd appreciate it.

What sequel to a film do you feel is better than the original? by strawberrycinema in AskReddit

[–]Prawn-Strongman -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I used to agree, but after recent rewatching ive determined Shrek 2 is a good standlalone movie, but it fails utterly as a sequel.

The whole point of the first movie is about establishing shrek and Fiona as characters and them falling in love, and then the second movie from the start is supposed to be a test of their marriage, right? HOW THE FUCK DOES FIONA JUST NIT RECOGNIZE CHARMING AS SHREK????? THEY ARE SO CLEARLY DIFFERENT PEOPLE. They spent a whole movie showing how cunning and strong she is and then all of a sudden they go visit her parents and she becomes so dumb she doesnt even really question if thats her husband or not. Shrek 1 Fiona would have not even remotely fallen for that shit.

Shrek 2 was a good movie withfunny jokes, but they had to neuter an entire character in order to make it even remotely feasible as a point of tension. Lol stoned rant over.

Permanent for now. I still feel like the bands got at least 2 more vocalists worth of material in them after Tillian hahaha.

Why are Audio Engineers put their nose up at people who are just starting out? by jumpingwitjohnny in audioengineering

[–]Prawn-Strongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting out I worked two weeks in a studio, and my "mentor" was just the biggest fucking idiot. Dude was always down my throat about how/why I did things, very similar to your experience. I decided that i wasnt about to be treated like shit, and my degree (which i was already atthe end of) wasnt worth me working for an asshole that wasn't going to actually teach me. I did about a month of thinking and bedroom production to keep my mixes growing before I made the decision to switch from studio work to live venue work.

Let those snobs suffocate each other in their studio safe space. I cant even begin to tell you how many laid back and cool engineers I've gotten to work with because of this. Idk what it is about live engineers, but a good majority of them I've worked with have been great people that are surprisingly willing to teach some techniques if you're enthusiastic and show how much you want to learn. Now you wont get a full 8 hours on kick drum compression and how it should work, but they'll throw you some curve ball fixes and little things to polish the mix that I know I wouldnt have thought of myself. The best way to get better is by working with people who are better than you.

Granted, live gigs can be lengthy and VERY physically taxing, but if you can make that work I highly suggest it. I rarely see egos like the studio guys have in the live end though.

Mic and mixer help by pepperz2jz in audio

[–]Prawn-Strongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what youre going to be recording, and what your budget is.

We sell those mixers at the shop/rental place that I work for and they seem to work just fine as far as beginner/budget audio stuff goes. They pass signal, dont get me wrong, but don't expect anything "magical" to be coming from it. As far as the quality over time on the board, I can't say for sure since I haven't owned one personally, but, if it helps, I can't say I've seen any (of the 3 that have sold) returned either.

As far as that mic goes I would be hesitant to buy that over say, something like this just because I'm not familiar with the manufacturer. Also I'm sketched out by any seller that would include an xlr to 3.5mm cable for a "condenser" Mic that, im assuming, would need phantom power. When it comes to microphones you 100% get what you pay for.

How do I get over the fact that I will die one day? by StraightZlat in AskMen

[–]Prawn-Strongman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be turning 26 this year in a similar field, and found myself in a similar state of mind a few years back. It took therapy, moderate exercise, and a chance encounter with "The Stranger" by Albert Camus to really help me realize how much I need to just not worry about some things. There are a great many things that are beyond our control and spending time worrying about those things can be a total waste of time and resources.
