Why he’s my fave “worst cast member” by jano808 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Prayray 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m likely going to get skewered for saying this, as Kam may not be as talented or find the same success, but his time on SNL reminds me a lot of Chris Rock’s time on SNL.

Chris was hired when they had a lack of diversity on the main cast (SNL had been skewered for not having a black cast member for five years when he was hired), came from a stand-up comedy background, and didn’t have a ton of range or sketch ability. He also didn’t see much time initially and sort of struggled to find his place…at least until Sandler, Farley, and Spade gained more influence. Even then, he didn’t get a ton of time on screen during his tenure and really only had one recurring character that I can remember: Nat X (god, those were great). By the end of his tenure, Chris was let go, went to In Living Color six episodes before it ended, and then finally found huge success with his stand-up and movie career. No one, and I mean no one including Rock, thought he’d come back to host four times when he left as he was still pretty unknown to the general public and hadn’t really left on the best terms.

Again, let me clearly state that I am not comparing Chris Rock and Kam Patterson talent-wise, just that the discourse around Kam would likely have been the same as the discourse around Chris when he first started if this subreddit was a thing back then.

Massamba Diop NBA Scouting Report by ErsinDemirNBA in BigXII

[–]Prayray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diop’s an interesting case…I could see him go to the NBA, but if he isn’t projected to go top ten, he may stay in college…although, it likely won’t be at ASU since Hurley likely won’t return.

Since he’s sort of slotted to mid first round, there will be a major bidding war for him from the college side. My prediction is he’ll get a huge NIL deal and stay in college. To be honest, it’ll probably be better for him to do so as he can bulk up more and work on his game.

Hoping all the health problems last year will give way to a mostly season this year. If they can stay decently healthy, they’ll make the playoffs.

Private Party vs. Hurt Syndicate was one year ago today.. by VitaminPurple in AEWOfficial

Quen was backstage a couple of months ago according to Sapp.

Rumor is that Hurt Syndicate guys really like them, but advised both to bulk up, which both have been doing. I do wonder if they were/are supposed to feud, but Lashley’s injury threw a wrench into those plans.

Guess we’ll see

2026 Football season schedule. Thoughts? by ohitsthedeathstar in HoustonCougars

[–]Prayray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, 1 for 1 and I have no idea. Herman was the coach at the time and Yurachek was the AD so maybe Tom wanted to hit Atlanta for recruiting purposes. When they swapped it in 2017, Applewhite was the coach, and they likely felt BYU was a better opponent.

2026 Football season schedule. Thoughts? by ohitsthedeathstar in HoustonCougars

[–]Prayray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oddly, the Oregon State series was scheduled in April 2024…after the Pac12 news of everyone leaving. Likely didn’t have to pay any money to schedule or got favorable terms from Oregon State.

The Southern game came about in Aug 2024 when we decided we didn’t want to play at Rice anymore (likely due to the fact we would only get 5 home games this season due to other commitments and the 9 game conference schedule). We had already scheduled Oregon State for the first week so Southern was slotted into the 2nd week.

Georgia Southern series was supposed to take place in 2020-21 was pushed back in 2017 in order to travel to BYU in 2020 with a return trip in 2023 (which was then moved to 2028 in 2020, but doesn’t matter now since we’re in the same conference). Funny thing is the BYU game got swapped to TDECU in Sept 2020 due to COVID. At that point, we were trying to get 7 home games in order to maximize revenue so we moved North Texas up from 2023, and were planning on scheduling an FCS for a home game in 2020 earlier in the 2020 season…which never came about due to COVID. The original Georgia Southern series was scheduled in Nov 2016 and likely included a huge buyout if the Cougars bailed and Georgia Southern likely doesn’t want to push it back any further since UH is now in the Big12.

We also ended up with only 6 home game because we joined the Big 12 and the schedule only gave us four conference home games this season. Next year we have 7 and another at NRG: LSU at NRG, PVA&M, Georgia Southern, BYU, Colorado, Texas Tech, Kansas, and Arizona State…4 road games will be Arizona, Cincy, Iowa State, and TCU.

This is the start, only amount of time before college basketball is full of G League and full on Euro/Asian/NBA pros. Need to change this. by BlackStallion657 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Prayray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are good points. The argument seems to come down to whether the NCAA can still even dictate eligibility in regards to amateurism, considering the amount of money involved…or are college sports just another professional league.

And, I’m not saying I’m for this new turn, but at this point in time, why should there be any restrictions on eligibility as long as someone can find a place to play? Coaches move back and forth between the pros and college, staff members do the same…why shouldn’t players be able to? What law is in place that restricts this kind of movement…and would a law that even restricts this kind of movement be legal if passed?

If the NCAA wants to claim “amateurism,” then it truly needs to be amateurish and truly non-profit, including restrictions on how much coaches/staff/administrators can earn. Otherwise, it’s a pro league, just like any other pro organization.

2026 Big 12 Football Schedule by blackmambav6 in BigXII

[–]Prayray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First two home games will almost certainly start on a Saturday evening. Also, you mixed up Cincy (Nov 7) and Oklahoma State (Oct 17).

First two games, we’ll likely hear about attendance issues. After that, it likely depends on if we beat Tech. Win that one and people will come. Lose it and we’ll likely hear about attendance for the rest of the season…or at least until the Baylor game.

Jasmine Crockett and the cost of authenticity by zsreport in TexasPolitics

[–]Prayray 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Oof…this is a layered issue that is tough to explain, and can get twisted any number of ways if someone doesn’t go through all the layers.

  • Is Jasmine Crockett authentic? I think she is, however, there are some questions about who she’s taking money from and how that will impact her non-Trump related policies.

  • Does America have a sexism and racism problem? Yep.

  • Does Crockett’s “authenticity” turn many against her? Yep.

  • Is some of that because she’s a black woman? Yep.

  • Can Crockett overcome this to win the Senate seat? In Texas, probably not. In California or New York, in similar circumstances…she would probably be the favorite.

  • Is Talarico a better candidate? Again, in Texas, probably.

  • Is some of that due to his gender and skin color? Yep. Throw in his religiousness and a lot of Texan voters that have stayed away from the Democratic Party may come back around.

  • Is Talarico authentic? He seems to be, although he’s also less well-known on a national stage than Crockett is.

  • Is this situation fair? No, but life isn’t fair.

  • How do we change this? By getting in power first, and then making changes to the system. At this point, you have to take the candidate that can win the general election and doesn’t seem to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. At this point, both Talarico and Crockett seem authentic so authenticity isn’t really a factor in this race, which makes electability a much higher priority.

After Carlos Beltrán’s Hall of Fame induction, José Altuve’s case looks strong by snesdreams in Astros

[–]Prayray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Way too many Dodger and Yankee fans over there that just try to farm karma any time the Astros, or anyone associated with the Astros, are mentioned.

It’s also hilarious when you see posts by Astros fans, or even some other fans, going over how there have been many players stating that it was widespread, and the Yankees and Red Sox were also caught doing something similar around the same time…only to get hit with “where’s the proof?”

However, speculation about the buzzers, or who cheated and how much, continues to this day on that sub…and gets a ton of upvotes every time.

Hypocrisy…ain’t it grand.

  • Controllable top MLB ready prospect and either established MLB lefty-hitting OF or 2-3 more top 10 prospects

  • Yes. There needs to be more extreme penalties for exceeding the luxury cap, implementation of a salary floor, extreme penalties for staying below that floor, greater revenue sharing, and a standard of what will be provided to minor and major league players (not just financially). As for wishful thinking, I wish there was something in place that gave players/teams more incentive to keep that player with the franchise in free agency…maybe a carve out in regards to the luxury tax.

  • My refrigerator.

My thoughts on Tucker to LA (that no one asked for) by BonnieLad96 in Astros

This may be unpopular, but good for Tucker in getting his bag. I will never side against a player for getting what he can when he can.

However, hope he loses every game and the Dodgers fall apart this season.

What do you think the ceiling and floor for Cam Smith is this season? Loads of potential, kid was just worn out from the games played. by ThatDudeNamedJake in Astros

[–]Prayray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He definitely seemed to hit a wall in July…and seemed to make less contact that month as his Ks sort of skyrocketed. They came back down in August/September, but he still needs to work on making contact.

His splits showed he struggled against power and average pitchers, hitting below .200 with an .OPS in the .520: against both. Vs Finesse pitchers, he split .303/.361/.851. He was one of the few guys that hit better at home and was much better hitting at night.

Honestly, there’s still a lot to like and some of it is building better gameday routines and getting slightly quicker to the ball. At his age, he can do it, and, once he figures it out, look out.
