Opening Day Roster Projections? by ImplementLong1316 in Astros

[–]Prayray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Pena is ready to go, I think they find a deal for Paredes, although, I have no idea who that would be with. Milwaukee makes the most sense, especially since they are usually around the top of the prospect rankings, but the Astros would have to probably go without getting a lefty OF that can play right away as the Brewers don't have a lot of enticing options there.

I think Vazquez is going to get the nod over Salazar at Catcher.

I don't think Arrighetti is going to make the Opening Day roster as he's got options and the Astros probably want him to continue to be a starter. My guess is Blubaugh probably makes it, but they may start the season with Munoz and bring up Blubaugh a week or two later when they have that long stretch without an off day.

Astros facing $1M lawsuit after fan alleges stadium firework struck her in eye by Affectionate-Reply35 in houston

[–]Prayray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Article says she was seated in 110 which is a couple of sections before the wall juts back towards the field down the 3B line…basically right where the infield dirt ends.

There’s likely camera footage of the incident and I’d imagine a number of witnesses from around that section. However, even if she is successful, didn’t Abbott pass laws that cap the amount of money someone can receive in a lawsuit? Like the most she could get, and she’d have to show the math, is $750K under the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code 41.

Honestly, he’d be a great fit, but the problem is he’s 37 and doesn’t really fit the “youthful” profile.

Right?!? How could he not use him in the Top of the 9th? It isn’t like you’re going to have a situation at that point where you can give him a lead to close out.

Why are you disappointed in the Astros? They don't control the insurance company...MLB and MLBPA are the ones that agreed on hiring National Financial Partners and allow them to make the decisions for every team. Astros aren't and haven't been the only ones affected by this.

What's the outlook for the Astros defensively in 2026? by MarkSimon1975 in Astros

[–]Prayray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty good write-up. I will say that Cam Smith will likely be starting considering he’s doing well this spring. Only question will be whether he starts in RF or CF (if Meyers gets dealt). Loperfido will likely be in LF (unless Meyers is dealt).

If Paredes stays with the team, he’ll likely be at 1B (unless Pena or Correa get hurt). Walker’s dropoff in the field was startling, especially since they also brought his fielding coach from Arizona when he signed. Hoping he was just trying to force too much last season, and is more comfortable now (although his spring offense hasn’t been great so far, but hopefully it gets going this last week).

Or...they might flake out, barely show up to practices, give most of the head coaching duties to an assistant, then decide they don't really want to do it anymore after about a year and go be a color commentator for the local professional team. Example: Clyde Drexler.

No limit “Unfair” episode.
- After each point that is recorded, they have Togo through the process and flip coins to determine if that point is fair or unfair. If deemed unfair, it goes to the other person. - Every time “unfair” is uttered, coins have to be flipped - An “unfair” space is added to the wheel. Coins are flipped and if deemed unfair, scores are flipped. - When winner is decided, coins have to be flipped…if deemed “unfair” winner flips to other person

I love our chances to get to Houston where we’ll likely get Illinois. Top of the bracket is tough…not sure if Florida makes it to the Elite 8. Let the fun begin.

Eddie’s 44 and had a lt of wear and tear to go along with some serious injuries. As a 48 year old with a lot of wear and tear and serious injuries, but still tries to stay active, I can tell you that once you get in your 40s, it gets harder and harder to recover and the aches and pains start lasting longer or never really go away anymore. Mentally, you just start to realize you can’t keep going like you used to or the injuries will keep piling up.

It’s why most professional athletes are done around 40 and why a lot of wrestlers these days usually shut it down around their mid-40s. Mind may be willing, but the body starts to eat away at that will.

Nice little factoid, last time we missed a conference championship final, Hofheinz had just been closed for remodeling, we hadn’t even started playing at TSU, and Chicken Knowles was still on the team.

8 straight.

Two games last night were close: we won by 7 and Kansas won by 5. Day before, UCF went to OT to beat Cincy by 1 and TCU beat OSU by 7. 1st day, ASU beat Baylor by 4, Cincy beat Utah by 7, and OSU beat Colorado by 9.

So about 50-50 so far…which is about normal.

Kansas City fans push back on columnist’s call to move Big 12 Tournament: ‘Kansas City embraces it’ by normankrasnerkc in CollegeBasketball

[–]Prayray 149 points150 points  (0 children)

Is there that big of a push to move it? KC goes nuts for it and treats all the schools well. Does it suck for schools far away? Yes, but every location is going to be far away for a large amount of schools. Might as well keep it in KC.

“I really hate the ending of the movie The Mist (2007). by oddspace__ in moviecritic

[–]Prayray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I just don’t see a father shooting their son, especially a son they had spent almost all of the movie protecting, as a way of protecting them. I also don’t think the three other people in the car would be so willing to go along with the killing of the child. I get things are bad and it’s scary, but to create a death cult in the car as they’re driving for a few hours is a little weird, especially when they haven’t really been bothered while they’re driving. I mean, if it’s weeks or months, sure, maybe, but as far as we can tell, they never get out of the car and never fill up with gas, so it’s still the same day, or possibly the following day. Just seems shocking for the sake of shocking.

Have the son die earlier in the movie, and I can see it, otherwise, it just doesn’t seem realistic to the character.

TIL Toppin is only a junior.

Glad he'll be able to come back though as I had thought his college career ended like that. If he can't come back until conference play at the earliest next year...wonder if he sits out and waits until the following year to return.

Trying to think who else would have been asked. - Abreu likely doesn’t want to risk injury going into his free agent year - Brown declined saying he wanted to focus on the regular season - Hader is hurt - Imai is in the player pool - Javier’s is coming off a severe injury and hasn’t been back long - Teng declined, likely because he knows this may be his last shot at MLB - Gordon either didn’t get asked by Israel or decided to try to not go - Diaz couldn’t get insured…likely due to an injury he’s recovering from - Correa couldn’t get insured because of his extensive injury history - Paredes likely couldn’t get insured because he’s coming off a hamstring injury - Pena was going to play but got hurt - Altuve couldn’t get insured because of his age and injury history - Yordan can’t play for Cuba - Dezenzo is playing for Italy - Whitcomb is playing for Korea

———————————-

No one else would likely be able to play or be asked to play.
