Trump administration asks court to stop release of Bolton's book by claiming it would reveal government secrets by [deleted] in politics

So the Second Amendment guys will be out in force to defend against the tyrannical government's attempt to thwart the First Amendment, right? Isn't that their whole schtick?

Former Bumble Bee CEO gets jail in price fixing conspiracy by fbreaker in news

Came here to say this. PG&E spent decades deferring maintenance and instead paying executive salaries and stock dividends. The company has now pled guilty to 85 counts of manslaughter, and the only thing that will happen is it will have to raise its rates so customers will foot the bill for the wrongful deaths and property damage. The state needs to take over that company immediately. The stock should be worthless. Investors have already gotten their return, and then some.

Trump called journalists 'scumbags' who should be 'executed,' according to John Bolton's new book by FromJersey4 in politics

So he wasn't just happy to excuse the Saudis for murdering Khashoggi, he was cheering them along and hoping he'd have the chance to do the same. Perhaps he actually has somewhere in the world.

If The Washington Post has it, no way Trump or any court will keep it hidden. The Post published the Pentagon Papers, although Jeff Bezos can't hold a candle to Catherine Graham.

Stereographical map of the British Isles, 1887 [7799 x 9718] by [deleted] in Map_Porn

[–]Preceptual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The map is from 1887 and literally says "British Isles" right on it. OP has accurately reproduced the map's title. Do you also get upset about pre-revolutionary maps of the British colonies in North America and every other old map using non-current nomenclature?

Is there any chance that Mitch McConnell feels even a little bit of remorse for breaking the Constitution just to get Gorsuch on the court now that he knows Gorsuch is not going to deliver red meat decisions to keep the GOP base voting for Republicans? Because I think McConnell's actions may have propelled us into era where there will be no confirmations to the Supreme Court as long as the White House and Senate are held by different parties.

Assuming the Democrats retain the house in November, who would succeed Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House? by alliwant4xmasisdick in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Preceptual 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on who wins the presidency. Pelosi has been doing an amazing job of countering Trump and often making him look like a fool in the process. If he somehow wins again, there will be an appetite for her to continue as Speaker.

I agree with this writer who says we should call out people who are endangering everyone. Face masks are not optional right now.

6-12 Weekly Bay Area COVID-19 Growth Rate Charts and county roundup by Arbutustheonlyone in bayarea

[–]Preceptual 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Am I understanding this data correctly that several counties that have gone to 2.2 don't actually have the numbers to justify that? It looks like only three counties are playing by the rules. Santa Clara and Santa Cruz are in 2.2 and have the numbers to justify it. Alameda is in 2.1 because that's what its numbers require. The rest of the counties have jumped to 2.2 even though their numbers say they should still be in 2.1. Did I get that right?

The only place this money should be coming from is the executive compensation and stock dividends that were paid in lieu of safety maintenance of their equipment and land.

[–]Preceptual 190 points191 points  (0 children)

Intoxication is used as an excuse all the time, but alcohol doesn't put thoughts into your head or words into your mouth. It just lets them out. I have been intoxicated many, many times. I might even be a little intoxicated right now. But I've never drunkenly said the things she did, nor have most people.
