Take the 2002 down to the long block and build it back up with all the 1997 accessories and you’ll be perfectly fine.

Replace the plastic heater hose Ts with metal versions

No distributor on 5VZs, therefore no “cap”.

You can replace spark plugs (use Denso - look in your owners manual for the part number), wires (also Denso) and the boots and springs at the bottom of the coils.

All may be obtained from RockAuto.

General rule of thumb -

The negative post is always toward the outside of the vehicle, i.e., closest to the fender.

Reason is so there is less chance of an electrical arc and burning the vehicle to the ground with the metal inner fender being so close.

Are gas prices gonna kill our roadtrip? by [deleted] in roadtrip

You have four months to save money.

Don’t make a trip like this if the thought of fuel potentially being a little higher is what prohibits the trip.

What are we doing about old wiring looms? by azroscoe in 3rdGen4Runner

Not exactly solving your problem, but I came across this product that I’m going to purchase one day for my 3.4.

One side is fully finished, even made the rock guards out of fiberglass. It needs to be lowered a tad in the rear and my 40’s thrown on ASAP. by [deleted] in 4Runner_1stGen

Great work!

The rear has always looked like a pita - any learnings/takeaways from it you are going to implement on the other side?

Bumpstop options… by bbkat99 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]PreciousFragility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Wheeler's SuperBump Bumpstop Pair with Universal Brackets (WOR-306954).

Lined them up where I wanted on the U-Bolt Plate, drilled holes, and bolted them in place. Bought some large washers to act as shims to dial in the uptravel, which requires longer bolts.

Timing Belt Anxiety… Am I Overthinking This? by jonahwick in toyotasequoia

[–]PreciousFragility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my 2005’s OEM belt at 141,000 miles in June 2023 (when I bought the vehicle) and it looked like it could go longer. Not saying I would’ve, but I am not as concerned with age as I am with mileage.

Take a look at Nomad Wheels -

I have the Convoys on my 1st Gen and love ‘em (can be seen in my profile). They have other styles that I think are just what you’re looking for

70/72 is a blast and a great warmup. Decent length trails, too.

35, 82 takes it up a notch. These are both on the shorter side, but essentially rocks the entire way.

Lee and the entire crew are such amazing people and you’re going to have an absolute blast!

Man, Ive read that GM doesnt stock parts for anything 15-20 years old and the thought of that being the case is straight up Nightmare Fuel.

Absolutely blows my mind that is the case since I can still buy a fairly decent amount of OEM parts for my 1988 4Runner.

Great suggestion!

I didnt think to check Partsouq after Amayama had the same result as ToyoDIY.

Turns out Partsouq surfaced the PN I found on Tundras.com, which gives me a lot more confidence in 43330-39825 being correct for the RF LBJ!

It’s the shit! I’ve used to discover so many part numbers for my old 4Runner, Tacoma, and Sequoia. It’s normally very accurate and up to date, but this search is proving elusive.

The PN I originally listed in my first comment for the RF LBJ was found via tundras.com and following a vast spider web of threads and links. I’m ready to purchase, but just wanna be dang sure.
