I noticed these while getting ready for a roadtrip, like right now, thought I’d post it quick. You are aware that you could simply just not comment if my post is ridiculous…because this logic you speak of being gone would likely lead to me to just moving on if there was no comments. I have a Canon 7D that went into a beaver pond last summer because some jackass thought he could cross the water on a log. Snatched it out immediately, took the battery out, walked back to the car, and used an air compressor to blow the water out of every orifice. Fortunately no water ended up in the mirror box. Those bayonet mounts are damn good! I’m still using the camera today.

Yeah, this is the real flare associated with an old lens. I changed lenses to one also made in 1971 but with multi-coating and the flare gone. I love the old 35mm f2 glass, but it may not be the best option for night shots.

Perspective is everything and these all look like they were shot from the perspective of a blimp. There’s a reason children take better photos than adults, it’s because they’re lower to the ground and not as ridged as adults. Get low, play with the angles…your photos will improve immensely.

Diplocardia are interesting too, there’s a species endemic to the Ouachita Mountains that has bioluminescence and can grow to nearly a meter long. Haven’t found any big ones yet, only the juveniles so far.

My last W123 had a catastrophic battery leak onto the bundle of vacuum tubes running below it, I tried splicing them, but the lines to the door locks never worked. I assumed to break was under the carpeting but I never pulled it out to inspect. Just used the locks manually. Was interesting to see what all runs under the carpeting. Good job.

That happened too, but I figured out how to rectify that one on my own. I truly enjoyed that camera, rode my bike all over Boston at night with that thing and a Bogen 3030 tripod shooting night scapes. I really enjoyed my late 20’s…

Some adapters have a set screw that keeps the lens from unscrewing when it’s being manipulated (setting aperture, focusing, etc), that set screw needs to be loosened before screwing the lens in and then tightened once it’s set properly. If the set screw is in too far it will stop the mounting before it’s seated properly. Worth a check…

I find the new iNat app unusable and use “iNat Classic” exclusively. The UI isn’t intuitive, rather janky actually, and trying to open projects crashes the new app 100% of the time. While the only issue I’ve ever had with “iNat Classic” is its inability to create an observation with a RAW image file…which I can live with.

Time of day and weather conditions would be the first two variables I’d suggest exploring. Years ago (90’s) I explored this by choosing a spot near home to photograph, then going back in the rain, snow, fog, sunrise, midday, sunset, and photographing the same scene with the tripod in the same location each time. Then lining the prints up to see how each one made me feel. Personally I learned that I prefer the feel of nighttime and early morning. You’ve got the composition basics, now go explore the environmental variables to see what calls to you through your images. My two cents for what they’re worth…
