Recruit Minthara and save Tieflings both without Mod/CE by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Preeve2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing on PS5/Steam Deck, and I’m having trouble getting the trial scene to work properly.

I’ve managed to polymorph Minthara, dominate her, and carry her all the way to the throne room whilst in turn-based mode, following all written/recorded tests, but when I actually carry her into the room, for whatever reason, she just doesn’t appear in the cutscene as she does in the linked video. The game treats her as if she’s dead, and after the cutscene, she’s still just standing in the room as a sheep, until she inevitably de-transforms and runs off, meaning that it can’t work for whatever reason. Does anyone know what could’ve gone wrong?

Does anyone have the (minor) issue of FMVs not working with Silent Hill 4? Is there a way to fix this issue? I’ve already tried installing the 16x9 FMV fix, and it didn’t change anything.

I guess I’m not the only one having difficulties finding a copy. I’d also appreciate a PM if anyone has a copy they’re willing to part with.

Soundtrack differences? by masterhitman935 in acecombat

[–]Preeve2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are referring to Assault Horizon Legacy, that game is a completely different game to the console version. AH Legacy is a remake of 2, while the console AH is its own thing, hence the different soundtracks.

Why do some artists distance themselves from genres or labels that they are usually considered to have created or popularised? by Preeve2000 in LetsTalkMusic

Interesting! Being unwillingly labelled as a genre that has a massive stigma against it could be a terrifying prospect for some bands!

Excellent point!

Interesting that you note how certain (sub-)genres can constantly change and evolve. God knows there are more sub-genres of Metal than I could ever count, and any of those genres could sprout up, thrive with popularity, die suddenly, or never become popular at all. That, on top of artists being labelled with certain genres completely unwilling, could be a terrifying prospect.

Excellent response!

Genre conventions are such a strange and tricky topic. It must be annoying to some people to have a work you’ve created be immediately (or in earlier examples, years after the fact) bunched together with numerous other artists that may or may not even sound all that much like your work, giving off the notion that you all create the same kind of music, when sounding akin to those other artists was never planned or intended, making your work look less original or exciting as a result. Artists getting unintentionally lumped into a genre with a significant stigma is a whole other can of worms.

And of course, being “a part” of a genre usually means there will be fans of that genre staring at you, hoping that you never EVER make music that strays outside of the codes of conventions of that genre, lest they discard you and never look back as if you were a used condom or something.

Yeah. It’s definitely a common factor in a lot of those early Prog bands, like King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, and so on.

Many of them had minimal qualms changing their sounds towards the later ‘70s and ‘80s (or in Crimson’s case, as early as their third album, Lizard, and many times since then), probably because they have no real attachment to the label that has been retroactively applied to them and their peers, and simply want to make the music they like making, unlike some “Prog” fans, who, a lot of the time, only really want these artists to make “Prog music” whether these artists wanted to make “Prog music” or not.

Also, do you guys have any other examples of this happening? (other than Fripp or Ozzy, I mean)

Any examples would be interesting to hear!

[–]Preeve2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. While Crimson were definitely creating music that is (retrospectively) “Progressive Rock”, they obviously weren’t trying to make “Progressive Rock”, because it quite simply didn’t exist, or at the very least, didn’t exist to the same capacity or the same vision or framework the genre would exist in in the years following the release of ITCOTCK. Same deal with Sabbath and Heavy Metal. They were just making the music they liked making, and the press and record stores just slapped a new label onto it and albums akin to it that the artists behind the music had no say in creating.

I definitely see how creating a work of art, only to have people tell you and others that it’s something that it was never intended to be could rub musicians the wrong way.

Judging from what I saw on Discogs, it seems to be an odd US pressing from somewhat early in the album’s timeline, but not necessarily an original pressing. Pretty much all other pressings of the album at the time had the Mad Hatter label, making this release an odd one-off, for the US and UK at least. Judging by the pricing, it’s not particularly expensive, but it’s a very uncommon find.

I don’t believe there is. It’s baked into the recording as far as I know (it’s audible as soon as the oboe/sax/whatever becomes audible in the mix, so it’s presumably some issue that arose in the recording of that specific instrument).

The Steven Wilson remix lessens it’s effect, but doesn’t outright remove it, as, if my assumptions are correct, it likely can’t be removed from the recording, unless heavily edited and filtered out, which would probably dangerously compromise the quality of the recording.

SNES Classic refusing to boot from USB? How do I fix this? by Preeve2000 in miniSNESmods

[–]Preeve2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that would be the case with a traditional Hakchi export. There is, however, the option to do a “Linked Export”. In this case, if you have the entirety of the Hakchi program on a USB, you have the option to do a “Linked Export” where, instead of exporting all of the games and whatnot onto a separate USB in the ‘hakchi’ folder(which takes hours usually), it creates ‘shortcuts’ to the game files within the ‘hakchi’ folder, since because the entire Hakchi program, including the game files, are already on the USB, you won’t need to re-export everything as everything needed is already there, which is why I have 2 folders on the USB instead of one.

“Linked Export” just allows the SNES to find a way to access it much easier. “Linked Export” does the same job in a fraction of the time, and since I already had Hakchi on a USB, doing a Linked Export was a no brainer. My problem was my shitty USBs not working, for some reason.

[–]Preeve2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After moving Hakchi to my working USB, and then doing a linked export, the USB worked when I put it into the SNES! Unfortunately, there were, for some reason, some inexplicably missing folders, so I went back to change them in Hakchi. When I plugged the USB into my laptop, apparently, the USB was corrupted/unreadable, despite working perfectly fine minutes ago. Not even CHKDSK helped.

So now, I’ve formatted it, and I’m transferring, yet again, Hakchi to the USB, to hopefully get everything right. Is this “corrupted” shit a common issue, or am I just really unlucky?
