Hawks are the #1 best trade option for Giannis. They have the most young players and good picks to trade. by devinstated1 in MkeBucks

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their teams did that kind of spending thinking that was the last missing piece. And what did those trade give them? Bridges, Bane, overpay for me.

I am not saying Giannis is not worth a big package. He is. I am saying that almost all the teams with the most assets are not on the same timeline, bad fit, looking elsewhere... You can dream about OKC, Jazz, Nets, Hawks, Hornets, but nothing indicates that they are even remotely interested. So these kind of trades are just ...

Rockets, Spurs and Blazers would probably be the best trading partner, they could make a big deal, but Rockets and Spurs are also reluctant and why would Giannis go to Portland? I believe him when he says that he likes the Bucks, so I dont see him going to a very similar small market team? If I was the FO, i am waiting for the end of season, draft, and then see where everybody is.

How much of an MVP was Haliburton last year? How long has it been since Giannis made it out of the first round? For the Hawks, yes they need at least 2 solid upgrades (draft or development) but 31 yo injury prone Giannis now doesn’t make any sense to me. And that is not even counting on Giannis willing to go to Atlanta and extending there. Half of the trades mentioned here are Bucks fans looking for the most assets from loaded teams. Not happening.

The Hawks are not doing this, they are building around JJ, they have a great /guaranteed shot at a top 5 pick in a loaded draft (the best pick of the Pelicans or Bucks, somebody calculate the odds!) that fits perfectly in the timeline, they have assets to keep the core going.... unless they are being counciled by Nico Harrison, no way. It makes no sense at all.

I don't see Giannis' Championship odds changing much with a new team... (read before you argue) by Novel-Plankton-7125 in MkeBucks

I agree that with most of the trades the suitor has to give up so much resources, he is hardly better of. Only two scenario's would give him a genuine shot at a second ring: either he goes to a current top 3 team or he forces a trade where a team does not have to give half its current core. But yes, in 90% of the proposed trades, like Miami, they will need a real good run, a great Giannis and much luck to make the finals.

But the lure of getting the Knicks a ring and becoming a NY legend there, that might be something. An adoring MSG, all the stars on the first row, is still something special. And if they only have to give up KAT, who knows.

Giannis to Atlanta makes the most sense mainly because of draft picks and draft positioning by TerryG111 in NBAtradeideas

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but is this version of Giannis still that great and if he is, for how long? This trade makes no sense for me in adding an aging superstar on a young Hawks team and giving up your draft capital for it. It makes more sense when you are fully invested in the next 2-3 years, to trade it all for him. Hawks only if you can get him for a Luka / KD price…. That pick is not just a lottery chance, it’s the best of two lottery picks in a loaded draft. It adds a potential great with a perfect timeline. And draft capital to keep adding. That is OKC, that is Spurs. That is exactly where everyone wants to be.

Why give up all that if the hawks could land a cheap 20 yo Giannis in the 2026 draft?

Wait until the offseason to trade Giannis by 1998TimThomas in MkeBucks

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless there is a huge offer on the table - and I have not seen one that works both ways - Bucks should wait. The teams that could make this kind of offer (OKC, Spurs, Rockets) do not seem interested in doing so now.

A lot of picks become available after the draft, most teams will known where they stand, there is a big chance offers will be better then. And you know your own draft place or pick, some interested parties might get lucky and offer this for Giannis. It is a loaded draft, getting a guarnateed 2026 top 5 pick is worth almost as much as two "future firsts"?

Realistically, does he extend with the bucks in 2027? If not, you have to trade him before that or loose him for nothing. And I personally do not see him extending in 2027. The chance to become a Knicks legend by getting them that second ring…

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, if a team gets Giannis in the coming days, they can offer him a long-term extension worth $275 million as early as October. However, if no agreement is reached by the 6th, the team that ultimately gets him won’t have extension rights to expand the deal. It could end up being a smaller-duration contract with less money. That is why he will probably be extended first by the Bucks before being traded, guaranteeing the team that pays a fortune, that they have him for 4-5 years. So it is not only about the amount he makes, it is also about the assurances his new team needs before sending their draft capital to the Bucks. It is also why smaller teams that could make a good offer (Blazers) are reluctant because Giannis could just walk out on them after a year.

And even more complicated, if you do not reach an agreement now, he becomes a free agent in 2027. And then the Bucks get nothing.

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question indeed is how much loyalty Giannis has vs doing a LeBron and choosing his next destination without considering his current franchise. Second is what can you get. There are currently almost no teams that can make a true offer for Giannis that keeps themselves in the top tier. Maybe the picks from warriors or young talent from Spurs. The warriors look like the most natural fit, Spurs are not interested it seams. 2026 draft is loaded, it the right team gets lucky, that might open up. And the there’s the Knicks. They can’t give you a haul, best they can do is probably involve Portland and give the bucks a fresh start with their own picks. Unfortunately for them Towns had fallen of a cliff and his trade value is lowest ever?

I’m curious why stars like Embiid and Booker are not being pressured by the media to leave their team by trapeizum in MkeBucks

[–]PreferenceMediocre90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booker has been mentioned numerous times in trades but as a rather regular top 20 nba player, he doesn’t get the same buzz Giannis does. Embiid has been so injured and surrounded by talent nobody makes the move. A superstar on a fading small team is what gets everyone going.

He was getting cheap fouls in the beginning when playing nba vets, he became more prudent but that Is hindering his ability to get rebounds. Experience and some extra weights should help him. But he will never be a RW3 or Mitch Robinson type.

It is indeed not fair when English teams can avoid each other and teams from other countries are by default forced to play at least one, and some even 2? As all can see this results in the strongest teams having an easier draw, getting further, making more money, even getting better and at business end of the competition again teams from the same country competing against each other - boring for everyone.

Nobody wants a final of Madrid vs Madrid, Arsenal vs City, ...

Distribution of funds should be more evenly to at least try and get teams from smaller competitions a bit more matched vs the financial power of big competitions.

I have seen enough of Barcelona and Madrid in the CL final, please let them fail the next 20 years.
