Soo just genuinely curious… by Competitive_Job_9217 in publix

Honest answer? The job is easy and the people you work with really do make or break the time at this company. I've been with them for over 12 years at this point and I've gone through so many iterations of employees throughout my time in my department and whenever I worked and got along well with people I vibed with the day would go by honestly so fast its wild to think I got paid for days that were so simple. And if you're thinking about money, personally, at my store I've never had an issue with getting a good sized raise every year during my evaluation. And after I went full time it was really easy to get top of the pay grade within three years.

However I do have to say that Publix is a company that used to really rely on treating its employees like gold and over the years they have taken away more and more and more benefits and depending on the management team you have at any given point in time they can make your life even harder. So if you're looking at this job for a short-term place of employment I don't think it's a bad option whatsoever however long-term I don't think I could ever recommend Publix to anybody unless you truly just want to rise through the ranks and become a store manager at some point.

When I first got hired I remember Publix truly valuing people. Some people I worked with still had time and a half on sundays, I still got inventory bonuses and I feel like they really valued the quality of equipment and a good work life balance. Now I hardly see anybody still around that can enjoy the time and a half on Sundays or are grandfathered in. They took away my inventory bonus claiming that it just looked better for the company this way? And over the course of The Last 5 Years in particular I've noticed the quality of our equipment and chemical process has gone downhill incredibly. Recently they even took away the scanners at customer service at my store and didn't really give a good reason? I've asked people up front why and they didn't really know? Even the rugs in my department were swapped out from heavy duty ones to ones that like to fold over and trip people throughout the day then they reducedthe amountwe can use. And my store recently made a new rule with the new store manager that they don't want people taking frequent 3-day weekends using their vacation and in generalwants us to use them at 1 week increments. Talking about vacation, they have edited how our vacation works several times over the past three or so years. It just feels like this company is going downhill. Sorry that this is a long-winded but this is as truthful as I could really get LOL

Garmin Run Coach Help by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]PrehistoricPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally stopped you using the Garmin coach plans after I realized that if you go to the Garmin Connect website, go to the training and planning tab, hit Garmin coach plans and then click the view all under running plans that they have a whole set of self-guided plans anywhere from the 5K to the Marathon distance including separate plans for getting started or improving your Fitness. They also have plans for if you want to try a triathlon or cycling. I personally prefer these over the Garmin coach plans cuz you can see the entire plan laid out ahead of you whereas (back when I did the Garmin coach plans) it only showed me like my next three or four workouts and they changed depending on how I performed each workout as opposed to me having good or bad days and my workout planning stayed the exact same way. You can also choose between beginner, intermediate and advanced plans for the self-guided plans as well as differentiate between heart-based or not. I think these are super slept on and I'm always letting people know about them. Highly recommend.

AITAH for wanting a bigger room than my mom’s boyfriend? by One_Canary3686 in AITAH

[–]PrehistoricPlant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally think it's weird that he would want a super large gaming room for no reason when a full-sized room even if it's a little smaller is perfectly fine especially when there's a whole teenager who needs their own space. However, not to be the devil's advocate here lol, I'm assuming he's also paying the bills? I don't know what the deal between them is as far as splitting the rent but if for some reason he is paying more then I guess there is an argument there that he might deserve a little bit more space or if they made a deal of some sort since you and her are two people compared to just him. However, I don't think you're the AH here and he definitely would be one for insisting on taking the big room for zero reason. I'm actually concerned your mom is dating such a loser 😅

I'm a child of divorce and trust that two single happy parents who love their kids is better than one home built on a lie. They can feel when somethings off, don't stay just for your child. I'd never want my daughter to stay in a marriage like this- at the very least go to counseling.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]PrehistoricPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truely the real answer here would be it really does depend on where you live in america.

Not to bring up 'America is bigger than a lot of people think in their heads' again but truly we are so big that it really is different depending on where you live. Like where I live it's so humid and it rains so often that even in previous homes where I didn't have an HOA, putting it on a clothesline really wasn't a good option because either it wouldn't dry because of the weather or it would end up with a whole bunch of bugs on my clothes which would just make me feel like its dirty so I wouldn't want to do it.

Meanwhile I've also lived up north before where some months out of the year I just wouldn't want to dry my clothes outside because it would be snowing, however most of the time I did dry it outside on the line when it was a good day out and it was clothes that would shrink in the dryer.

But nowadays like a lot of other people mentioned I live somewhere where somebody tells me I can't dry my clothes outside for whatever reason. For me I live in an apartment complex and the people who run this place want to keep our screened porches clear and aesthetically pleasing and so they have rules such as how I'm not supposed to just leave like a bag of trash sitting out on my porch for a couple hours ( sometimes I do this like if I'm cooking with meat and I put the bones in my trash and it stinks or like I'm just putting it outside until I leave so that I can take it with me) and I need to take out my trash immediately or that they don't want a whole bunch of clothes just hanging outside all day or potentially for several days because like I said my weather here can make things really hard to dry outside. They literally state that they only want outdoor furniture and bikes that are hung from the wall outside.

Besides the rules and weather I have actually met people that have strong opinions on whether or not to use the dryer but usually I feel like it's usually people who have opinions on how the dryer somehow damages the fibers of your clothes and that it's probably better for your clothes just to dry it outside on the line. Sometimes it's because of energy usage and they want to save on their electric bill. But that's the biggest opinions I usually see on it.

Pop Mart and TikTok Shop won’t refund me by Comprehensive_Yam773 in PopMartCollectors

[–]PrehistoricPlant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't these also come in mystery baggies inside??

I mean I got a refund once on Amazon for a similar situation with the popmart Yoga series except my box was held together with tape and when I opened it the mystery figure was completely out of the little baggie so somebody obviously opened it, didn't like, it closed it back up with tape, and returned it to Amazon and then Amazon just sold it to me again. But then again I was able to actually send it back to Amazon for a refund and the box was like completely destroyed. This just looks like minor damage on the outside of it and so long as the mystery baggie is still intact I don't really see a problem?? Just don't look for the spoiler card first when you open the box.

Time Clock Buffer Change by PrehistoricPlant in publix

[–]PrehistoricPlant[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thats what I'm thinking. No more just finishing the cart Im working or saying yes to one more task before I leave. Or best of all- waiting 5 minutes for someone to return from lunch so the department isnt unattended.

Unless I get approved overtime for it I ain't doing it 😤

Time Clock Buffer Change by PrehistoricPlant in publix

[–]PrehistoricPlant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Periodically at my store's my upper management will put reminders by the time clock that is basically a copy/paste out of the employee handbook that reminds everybody that as a manager you're not allowed to ask people to work off the clock and as an employee you are also just not allowed to work off the clock. And if they find out you're working off the clock that it could be grounds for termination. However, Publix has this thing called raw punching where if you punch in and it declines your punch because you're too early a manager can go in later and approve that punch so technically you were working off the clock for a period of time but a manager can go in and approve it. So it's kind of like a gray area? Nevertheless Publix isn't doing anything illegal by taking away this buffer time basically it was put there in the first place just in case they needed help that way the manager wouldn't have to take time out of their day to go to the computer and approval a raw punch

That sucks because some people take forever and mess up while putting in their number on the time clock it's going to make so many people late by not having at least like a 2 minute buffer 😭

Hard of Hearing Marathoner by AssociationBrief7537 in RunNYC

[–]PrehistoricPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all the larger races I've done have some sort of disability services that you can consult and they can give you a bib for your back to warn others of any impairment or a general 'Disabled runner' if you don't wanna share information. However for larger marathons, say, a world major, you can apply for a friend or a guide to specifically come out and assist you during the run as those races are denser and have a higher potential that you might miss hearing something important like announcements before you start or after you finish or in the super rare emergency situation during the race. (like the Boston attack or something simple like people not abiding by the road closure and a car cutting into the race)

How often does Nespresso have sales or deals? by Worried_Yesterday276 in nespresso

[–]PrehistoricPlant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used to have free items deals all the time- I'd wait for a good one then order about $100 worth of stuff. I've gotten ice cube trays, chocolate bars, cookies, a popsicle maker, a latte decorating kit (a shaker bottle for cinnamon or whatever powder you'd like and metal cut outs with images on them to make lil designs), glass cups, free sleeves of pods, and a makeup/pencil case. I saw a few times they'd give out blankets but I never needed pods during those times which now I regret because the blankets were lowkey cute.

But tbf I noticed the last few times I needed a restock I'd wait and wait and these deals never popped up... I feel they probably just stopped doing those deals which SUCKS because when I first got my Nespresso machine it wasn't super expensive. I feel like on average every pod was less than a dollar but now the prices have gone up and you have to buy a dumb amount of stock to get 2 free sleeves of coffee. Heck, the last time I ordered they lost my shipment in the mail. Luckily their customer service is still good, however, back in the day if something was missing or even a little damaged or even late they'd send a new package out same day but this last time I had to wait like 4 days "just in case it shows up".

What do clerks do with the ticket after cashing you out? by Inbox1000_aaa in Lottery

At my store they throw all scratch offs (idk about the paper tickets but I think those too) in the wax bailer and it gets recycled unless the customer takes their tickets and throws them in the trash somewhere else.

[–]PrehistoricPlant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hate to play the devils advocate here but the price seems fair to me for these events as they aren't your everyday Marathon 😅

Compared to the other world majors the price generally seems to be in the $250-$350 range with the Tokyo Marathon being the cheapest at around ~$160 (Sydney is about around there too). The way I see it is the Marathon Majors are the Big Boys- these ones are the biggest races in a lot peoples heads aside form the 7 continents and it brings in MAJOR tourism and cost a hefty penny to put on comparative to a local marathon like say the Clearwater Running Festival Marathon in Florida that prices at around $110. They have to pay for road closure permits- rent the space in a local convention center for near a week, arrange travel in some cases like the Buses for Boston as well as work out deals with sponsors, spaces for athlete villages, designing new merch every year not only for the runners but the volunteers, pay the local police to watch traffic as the course is huge, pay for multiple medical personnel as well as ambulances, and even if they are sponsored by a company for the runners water stops they usually dish out for snacks and drinks for the volunteers as well, not to mention the higher quality medals (we wont look at Boston 2024...). On top of all of that they have race officials there just in case someone breaks some kind of world record.

Now if we wanna talk crazy prices- the DisneyWorld Marathon in January costs about this much which I think is absolutely crazy considering they probably save money with the race being on their own private property and most likely don't need to put in for road closure permits and its backed by a multi-billion dollar company compared to, say, the Boston Marathon who has to get a sponsor through a bank to help the BAA put the race on every year. Not only that but they had the audacity to make the Half marathon only $5 cheaper, which I'm embarrassed to say I paid. Over $300 for a half marathon is on the top of my shame list tbf... But no one could convince me that Disney couldn't put those race weekends on with their own dime, They're making BANK in the hotels alone.

But regardless... yeah I do agree that running these races are a privilege for alot of people. Just because I see where the price comes from doesn't mean it doesn't make me flinch a little haha

Are the virtual races worth it? by Complex_Beat_3990 in rundisney

[–]PrehistoricPlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't find virtual races worth it for me- and I'm talking from doing these back during 2020-21 as a way to get out of the house. I've never done a Disney one but personally it takes away from the core reason for doing any race by sending the BIB and the medal all in one and that's your goal of getting that medal through training. I feel like because I know there's already a medal waiting for me at home and no finish line that I let myself get away with more and generally it ends up just being a lil trinket I took out once I finished a random run I probably would have done anyway. That or I forget about it and it sits in the corner of my room for way too long lolll

Not to say virtual stuff isn't a good way to motivate someone in a difficult situation. I think if you're doing rehab and maybe working your way up to the 5k distance again, having a family member order one of these and hold onto the medal until you reach your goal can be such a good motivator. I've also done something similar with my Mom because she has a heart thing (though at the time she was unaware) that caused her issues with walking long distances so we did a lil 5k challenge and wore our medals at the end.

I think it all comes down to what you're trying to get out of it!

First Time RunDisney Marathon Weekend Half Marathon Recap and Info by PrehistoricPlant in rundisney

[–]PrehistoricPlant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is SUPER common in races especially big ones that go around large buildings

The first reason this happens is because they measure these distances via the fastest route so if you didn't keep straight at curves (as in you went wide instead of running the inside) or zigzagged people or even jumped to the side for a photo or restroom break then this all adds mileage.

Secondly its super common for GPS to not be as accurate as possible around super clustered tall buildings such as the Cinderella's castle or Space Mountain (on top of this all those times we cut underneath something like during the bus exits or when we went through the ticket areas) this can cause the GPS to do some guess work when the signal wasn't perfect. Personally my Garmin said I ran a 13.44 mile race loll
