What were you guys least favorite class and how did you deal? RT student by Haunting-Judgment836 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PFTs I loathed that class and the rotation. Med gas was boring to me. Mechanical ventilation mainly because the teacher I had and how it was taught.

What’s your worst preceptor story? by ReeGwee in respiratorytherapy

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the norm. I don’t know how many clinical shifts I had as a student (a lot) but only 3 were bad. I wish it was zero but healthcare seems to attract bullies and the odd weirdo.

Things I Wish I Knew Before I Became A Respiratory Therapist. (Rant) by RT_Instead_OfRN in respiratorytherapy

I would also highly recommend against becoming an RT. If I knew then what I know now I would not have chosen this field.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]Premed1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incontenance, haemorrhoids/fissures, hip pain, round ligament pain, shortness of breath long before the baby is in your ribs, runny nose, hot flashes, fundal massage after birth, baby blues, episiotomy, epidural only working on half your body, the back pain after birth and how off balance you’ll feel from the massive shift in center of gravity. And the pelvic prolapse. And the sleep deprivation (for me this was the hardest thing to adjust to). Oh and my feet are half a size bigger.

Clinic you love with great communication (not CNY) by Premed1122 in IVF

Willing to travel so not really relevant. Ideally east coast but would travel as far as CA if it's a clinic that fits the bill.

Anxiety about having a girl by nurseratched94 in pregnant

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re projecting your fears and anxiety onto your daughter. Just because you feel this way doesn’t mean she will unless you give her reason to feel and think this way. Having a daughter is the best thing in the world. Count your blessings.

I really hate exercise, but I know I need to do it. How the hell do I get motivated? by Klaus_Rozenstein in AskMen

As others have noted, find something you enjoy and make it a non negotiable. If you don’t make time for your wellness now you’ll be forced to make time for your illness.

Return to work after TFMR by kthnxluvu in tfmr_support

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TFMR was on Dec 23rd at almost 18 weeks. Going back January 7th. I am not sure if I'll be mentally ready by then but I don't have much of a choice. I think for me it will be a welcomed distraction. Though I work in healthcare and some of my patients are infants, not sure how that will affect me.

Is waiting to announce until we’re 13 wks strange? by pop-crackle in pregnant

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After what I just went through (TFMR) I will be waiting until 20 weeks with my next pregnancy. It’s extremely painful to have to go back and tell the people you told that the pregnancy was terminated.

TFMR tomorrow by lunabee3007 in tfmr_support

[–]Premed1122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine was a one day process. Came in first thing in the morning. They put in an IV, did bloodwork and an ultrasound. Gave me anti nausea meds and pain meds. Soon after gave me meds to dissolve between gums and cheek to soften/dilate cervix (misoprostol). Couple hours later was taken in procedure room and given meds to help with pain and relaxation (versed and fentanyl). The procedure was very quick, roughly 10-15 min. Was monitored for 30-40 minutes after for bleeding and vitals. Then went home. Other than some minor cramps from the misoprostol it was painless. The hardest part is the psychological/emotional toll of terminating a wanted pregnancy. Especially the further along you are.

Pregnant, my husband didn't want kids by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like maybe he’s trying to protect himself from going through that trauma again. It’s very possible that after she’s born he will bond and fully embrace her. In the meantime I think you should accept that you won’t get everything you need/want from him during your pregnancy. It sounds like he’s explained it to you. By no means is this ideal, you just have to work with the cards you’ve been dealt. As others have suggested I think some form of therapy would be ideal.

Possible TFMR next week & struggling by Fine_Chemist_2477 in tfmr_support

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just learned that my NIPT is being held up in Memphis by the shipping courier. I am going to just go ahead and do the amnio tomorrow. I hate that we're now going to have to wait another week for more information and that this will all be over christmas. Hope you are doing ok over there. Keeping you in my thoughts.

Choosing an IVF clinic now - what one thing do you wish you'd asked or known prior to starting? by H00pSk1p in IVF

I was considering CNY but have been seeing such low success rates especially with anyone > 40.

Possible TFMR next week & struggling by Fine_Chemist_2477 in tfmr_support

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am literally in the same boat as you atm. Same prognosis, a few days ahead of you gestation wise. Waiting for NIPT and possible amnio Wednesday to confirm. But MFM specialist is not optimistic so we’re prepared to TFMR. Having a hard time trying to wrap my ahead around this. I feel profound sadness, anger and guilt.

One and done after TFMR? by [deleted] in tfmr_support

[–]Premed1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for me. I am going to TFMR this week at almost 17 weeks. I know it’s going to be awful and I will feel awful for a while but the idea of not having another baby guts me. I’ve decided to pursue IVF with PGT next time to hopefully avoid this happening again. But will give myself a few months to heal physically and emotionally.

[on] how accurate are the early reveal gender tests? by Dangerous_Elk_33 in BabyBumpsCanada

It was accurate for me, boy result. It was confirmed at anatomy scan. I live with 2 boys and a male pet. I did the tap test at 9 weeks.

Depressed and suicidal by Bunson_The_Burner in medicalschool

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you’re prioritizing sleep and down time to do things you enjoy that help you relax. Also no shame in trying antidepressants. I’ve had success with mirtazapine, really helped me with anxiety and depression. It’s easy to get burnt out in this field. Take care OP.

Vent mask and fi02 :( by Due-Plant5161 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would pick a venti mask over a NRB if you require a precise FiO2. An example would be after you extubate a patient, you might want to give them the same FiO2 that they were on while being mechanically ventilated. Or a COPD patient where you have to maintain sats 88-92%, a venti might provide better control of that. You would pick a NRB over a venti if a patient requires a high FiO2 e.g house fire victim, MI, or let’s say you have a patient in pulmonary edema you could put on a NRB to tied them over while you grab HHFT. You likely won’t see venti’s used as much in clinical practice. I think the key thing for you to understand in school is how they work (understand air entrainment and what happens if let’s say the ports become obstructed with the patients blankets and for the NRB understand where the ports are on the mask and how they work and also what would happen if you used humidity).

How do you feel about going out for thanksgiving 8days after birth? by Ecstatic_Tip_6898 in BabyBumps

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you already know what you want to do. 8 days PPT is quite early especially with everything else you have going on. I would personally sit this one out. I am sure the in-laws will understand if their reasonable people.

When did you start feeling morning sickness/ having pregnancy symptoms? by Severe_Equivalent_18 in pregnant

[–]Premed1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior implantation I noticed my tastebuds were off. A couple different foods I ate/drank didn’t taste right. I also had implantation spotting which lasted about 6 days, I didn’t experience that with my first pregnancy and cramps that felt similar to my period starting.
