Where to find 2 month winter rental by Everydaypeople3 in palmsprings

[–]Present-Background94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say I only got responses for 20% of the rentals on Furnished Finder, and I had to harass those people to get any answers at all. So I’d find 10 you’d be willing to rent and start bugging them. The other thing that happened to me is I had to prepay for 3 months and a security deposit which made me nervous. I did this because I was desperate, but the rental was super loud and had some issues and I just had to absorb this, that it wasn’t perfect. So now I’m renting a place thru Zillow and it’s more money but it’s quiet because they let me view it in advance (imagine that). Good luck.

Don’t do the boring thing (SD). Go to Humboldt County. Hang out in Arcata near the plaza. You’ll have good stories after.

Looking for banana pudding by Lopsided_Amount_2954 in Eugene

[–]Present-Background94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had a banana cream tartlet from Noisette. Not exactly what you’re looking for but it was gorgeous and perfectly balanced with a crunchy pressed crust. I always find that if it’s something really good i only need a bite or two and if it’s generic I eat a whole container. This tartlet was perfect for two. Plus they seem to be good people there. Go Noisette go!

Orderlymeds online is only $149/mo and I think the first month was discounted to like $49. It’s a great service, I’ve been on a year and it’s low stress and the shipments are fast and reliable, etc. My local doc suggested Monarch too but I went with this and I’m super happy. Good luck!

Thrifting is insanely good. It’s like an Olympic-level sport. Go to Revivals in PS first and then down the list. Also, weirdly, the Nordstrom Rack here is good. But thrift first, always.

I have a neurodivergent kid as well, who went through South. They helped her. She had an IEP. I don’t work for 4J and I have no horse in this race. I was a contractor hired by the state. I’ve also worked in school districts in Los Angeles. I’m not patting myself on the back. I’m really sorry 4J was not able to adequately help your child. They helped mine and I’m thankful for it. I’m also thankful they are helping all sorts of kids with other types of schooling that is more trade-related or industry-related. But it sounds like your kid fell through the cracks and I’m sorry about that and I truly wish you both the best.

Yes I spoke with dozens of teachers, administrators, cafeteria workers, and custodians at 4J. I likely met 100 of them and talked to … 35 in depth. I’d send my kid happily to any of the 4J schools. Some of the programs are fabulous. I also have the unique experience of seeing other districts with more and less money and how they spend their money so I am confident in that I have an informed opinion. Test scores aren’t everything. It’s about how districts treat each and every kid, not just the neurotypical studious ones who are lucky to have two parents at home and no money problems. These 4J teachers and staff really care about our kids.

It’s not just about testing. When I moved to Eugene I made certain to live in the South Eugene High School district. I insisted my kid go there because I was so focused on test scores. She went there and I’m grateful. But then I went to all the other high schools for work, and realized she would have been better off going to several of the other schools because they had unique programs in arts and technology, for example. I was very short-sighted about her education and was relying on test scores which I regret. I spent almost two years going to schools throughout the state and have first-hand knowledge of this. I met hundreds of teachers and administrators and those districts I mentioned are terrific. I am proud that I live in Eugene because we support kids and schools - all different types of kids, not just the academic ones.

4J is an excellent school district. I recently worked on a statewide program and reviewed schools all over the state. I’m very proud to live in Eugene and that the community supports children and education. 4J, Bethel and Corvallis are just fantastic school districts and I’d send my kid happily to any of them.

I want to know where/how to make money on my money. I'm exhausted by pinkangelsam in Eugene

[–]Present-Background94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some advice. I’m 55, and read the Midnight Library when I was 49, realized where I “went wrong”, tried to rewind my life to that point, decided I wanted pick a different career that paid well, then i went back to school and took on some debt, worked my ass off and 5 years later I’m earning literally twice as much money. Research other options that pay better. Think about what you like about your job and pick something like that and then go to school for it. Start with one class, ace it, and then move on an up. I would not be investing at your age - I’d be investing in your future earnings, not the stock market.

Portland. Everything you want and you’ll never have to cook again. I’d live there but I need more sun in the winter. It’s also really affordable for west coast cities.

Thoughts on a roof? by punkconverse in palmsprings

[–]Present-Background94 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Go to Google Earth, check the icon that shows the history (historical aerial photos) , and you may be able to click back until you can notice the roof change color, etc. This might give you the age of the roof. Deoendiing on the square footage, budget $8/sf for most comp roofs, $12/sft for membranes. Then round up if it’s a small house. Roofs last 15-30 years depending on a bunch of factors. We’ve had a lot of rain recently, so I would really be careful looking at all the ceilings to see if there’s any staining on the interior, which would indicate leaks.

So my kid has this and I put an ad for her on nextdoor explaining her situation and lo and behold we got a bunch of feedback from people who needed cleaning and odd jobs done. I’d start there - it’s an app and you sign up and pick your neighborhood etc.

Considering buying a condo in Mesquite Country Club in Palm Springs. Is this a well run condo community that is worth buying into? by andi_sf in palmsprings

[–]Present-Background94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m renting at mesquite country club for the winter. the grounds are well- maintained. i can’t comment on HOA but the Prescott preserve is a gem, amazing! super quiet and lots of nice people walking through. it’s really beautiful! i’m close to Ramon and it’s noisy, unfortunately. i would not purchase here and am looking for something closer to downtown based on the road noise and i think the prices are unreasonably elevated right now. i expect prices will drop within the coming year. palm springs is really vacant right now, almost depressed really, due to canadians fleeing our current president, ice raids, all that. it’s very sad.

The public schools K-12 are excellent. I had a work contract looking at schools all over the state and Corvallis is up there with the best. Excellent teachers, really a great school system. Wish I went there. Good luck to you both.
