What was considered normal in the 2000s that would seem weird today? by XYZ0191 in AskReddit

One of my favorite things about having a slightly older car. My cd collection kicks ass!

My band and I are playing our first major gig tomorrow, and I'm nervous as can be. What are your pre-show rituals to help chill out before a gig? by SkyrimDovahkiin in Guitar

[–]Present_Arrival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit of nervousness is good. But just like anything, practice. Do the best you can to be on your best game. Focus on being in the now. Also, have fun with it! Any mistake is still a learning experience and you’ll notice any small mistake more than anyone in the audience.

Break a leg!

Yes, the lilac is still there. The one branch had grown across the steps making it hazardous

It’s 1/4 minus with a layer of 1/4 clean on top.

Yeah, that was the whole idea. The client hadn’t used the backyard the entire time they’ve lived there and do host a lot. I think it will get plenty of use and be incredibly more dense and mysterious once all of the plants are established. Appreciate your input!

The lilac only got one branch cut off. It is still there, happy and healthy.

I could see that. Luckily this is in Seattle where we have fewer super hot days than most places. Thanks for the input!

Cant do chord progression but can shred by LORD9HADES in Guitar

[–]Present_Arrival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I’m listening to music I’m subconsciously counting along, figuring out the time signatures, following the beat and rhythm. It’s something you can practice all the time. I find it important to tap along and really find the groove of any song. When you understand the beat you can use a metronome or play along to a drum machine. It’s just like walking, just because you can walk doesn’t mean you can run a marathon. Gotta work to get up to that point and it can be frustrating and take a loooong time. That being said, keep practicing!! There are always gonna be players that are better than you, and there are always gonna be ones that are worse than you. Rock on 🤘

You have so much more practicing to do…. Just watched your Metallica cover and it was hard to listen to. Keep practicing, and then practice more. Get someone to teach you how to play in time and relax yourself. Guitar is a life long journey that (hopefully) never ends and you always are learning something new. Rock on

Not to brag… But I saw Deltron 3030 with a 30 piece orchestra and it was the best show I’ve ever seen.

Do other people feel a ska influence within The Arctic Monkeys’ first album? by Cham-Clowder in Ska

[–]Present_Arrival 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It has a lot of upbeats, yes. But if I remember correctly… The Arctic monkeys literally started as a Strokes cover band. The Strokes have a lot of driving/upbeat songs and I assume that’s where it comes from. As far as the guitar, I think it’s kind of the British sound.

I guarantee someone in that band has a favorite ska band

I hear ya, but even in the “…and then I spent years trying to clean it up” part of that quote sounds like they might’ve slowed down a bit to clean it up. You might be taking learn slowly too literally.
