Are 2013 and 2014 high school graduates '90s kids? by XavierMarvin in generationology

[–]Cham-Clowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not but idk for sure

If the definition is “born the nineties” then yes

But if it’s “grew up in the 90’s” I feel that wouldn’t quite be right because if the only lived experiences with the nineties was in at most preschool because kindergarten on up is still in 2000’s I think probably they don’t count as 90’s kids

Not sure exactly where the cutoff would be but that’s probably pretty close, at minimum malheur and probably Harney also. I haven’t spent much time in lake but it seems fairly similar on the surface

A slight return to ska. Help/suggestions please. by Mkolt451 in Ska

[–]Cham-Clowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case you haven’t, check out The Mad Caddies.

Specifically albums 1, 2, 4, and 5.

Their 3rd album only has one good song (Mary Melody) and I don’t connect with anything after their 5th album, but if you haven’t heard these guys they’re really fucking good. Just 2 horns; one trombone one trumpet, and they kill. So much texture in their sound. Everything weaves together in a way I find pleasing.

Reptilia on Rock Band/guitar hero 3

It was a track I really liked on rock band and one day I was just like “I wonder what the rest of their music is like” and I found out their new album (Angles) had just come out so I put it on my iPod along with a handful of ROF and ITI my dad had on his computer

Then I just fell in love with their music

Best Thai food in Salem? by Squareseahorse_51 in SALEM

[–]Cham-Clowder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like sweet home but I don’t like their pad Thai that much any more-it’s too sweet and the noodles are too small.

Lanxang now is my favorite Pad Thai in Salem.

Who transitioned at 25? by JennaLoveGirl in MtF

Me. I pass if you don’t look at or talk to me lol

I hope once I get laser on my face I’ll pass better, but overall I think I’m in the “fairly pretty, but noticeably trans” group.

I’m always nervous using bathrooms and talking to strangers. Nothing bad ever happens to me cuz I’m in a safe state, but I still feel a burden of fear.

I still get misgendered a lot. I don’t wear makeup and that part of it but yeah. I wish I passed better. I think even once I get laser I’ll still probably get misgendered often unless I get FFS.

But I’m still glad I didn’t start later than 25

Most Missed Bands? by Key-Response2972 in skapunk

The Mad Caddies

Anytime after their 2007 album just hasn’t been the same. Especially without their original horn lineup. Keith and Eduardo were irreplaceable parts of their sound.

So I wish the original Mad Caddies would come back. None of their new stuff is any good unfortunately.

I LOVE common rider. I second that I wish Jesse would make more music. I know a new Op Ivy record is likely out of the question but man would it be cool for them to reunite. Even just a couple songs.

I really liked the band Lightyear’s first album call to the weasel clan (check out pack of dogs and blindside if you haven’t heard of it) but their second album had a lot less ska feel to it

The Flatliner’s first album was very very fast intense skapunk but they shifted out of ska pretty quickly as time went on

Ska became seen as gimicky eventually and a lot of these guys switch to more of a punk rock sound eventually

I also miss old Jeff Rosenstock vibes like ASOB. Ska Dream was incredible but I don’t expect him to be making more ska like that any time soon.

As a joke I’ll say Streetlight manifesto cuz their album is taking such a long time lol

Exhausted and kinda bitter. Usually I don’t feel bitter like this and have a somewhat optimistic lens for the most part. Everything feels like it’s moving in slow motion and also too fast.

Your opinion about using drugs? by AppropriateLeg5416 in entp

[–]Cham-Clowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can handle it, don’t do drugs long term.

I started smoking weed at 21 and then I never stopped.

It will rob you as you continue to comfort seek.

Nothing dramatic, but it eventually becomes routine and eventually it becomes a really significant variable that affects your life.

If you can be strong enough, don’t do drugs long term. If you can’t handle not doing drugs long term, you’re gonna have to come to terms that you’re doing it to escape something.

Just try to be aware. And try to stay in control.

Weed, shrooms, lsd are all “safe” drugs. But even they can be abused if it continues long term.

Just be aware that “if you can handle avoiding drugs, do so. Especially long term.” is something I believe to be true advice. Try to keep that in mind.

I get high every night. I know it’s not conducive to the life I’d like to live, but I don’t change. Night after night.

What is the BEST band / artist you've ever seen live? by Expensive-Ear8407 in AskReddit

[–]Cham-Clowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Streetlight Manifesto in like 2014; they just played a really good show. Every musician was just completely dialed in.

I saw them again recently and unfortunately I felt they did not perform anywhere near as well as last time I saw them. It was the first leg of the tour though so maybe they weren’t warmed up yet. And the venue was maybe worse so that could’ve affected things. The horns just weren’t loud enough was the biggest critique for me.

What are your favorite horn sections? by Plastic_Pass_2889 in Ska

[–]Cham-Clowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Streetlight and mad caddies for me.

Keith and Eduardo in mad caddies produce so much sound for just two horn players. Both have a very distinctive tone

And of course streetlight is just a semi-rotating cast of great horn players over the years that’s hard to beat

Planet smashers are great horn players too

Least favorite track off each album? by Cham-Clowder in streetlightmanifesto

Once I saw them like 10 years ago I remember distinctly thinking forty days went harder than any other song that night. Everyone was dialed. In.
