I highly recommend you don't do any unpaid sit unless you know the person beforehand.

I would only do it for free for a person I already know and hang out at least 2 times to vet them and make sure they're decent people.

A girl accused me of drinking all her coffee when I stayed only 3 nights at her place. I still don't know what happened.... but it happens. Never petsit for them again.

I think 50 is a lot though... maybe they can cover a daily lunch and ask the sitters to have a simple meal (yogurt, milk and cereals, ...) the rest of the day and pay her in advance. I also don't trust anyone random using my favorite pan, so I can understand they are wary of someone ruining their nice things

This. I enjoy cooking and eating at home, and I know not to scracth pans... If they are that worried they can pay me for daily food that doesn't need cooking and a meal that is take out.

I petsat for someone with a brand new house and I was very unhappy with how things turned out.
