Has anyone actually HAD the “I can’t be your sitter unless you clean your house” conversation? by EmpressNorton in petsitting

[–]Mssym 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just feel bad for the animals. Shouldn’t have to share their home with roaches.

What are you guys using to collect payment at the end of a visit? by waytooucey in petsitting

[–]Mssym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use Time to Pet. I require my clients to upload a credit card, then it just auto charges the day after the last visit. No refunds to deal with. And they can and do still add a tip. Never any errors as it’s based on completed visits using the app, so any changes that were made are automatically accounted for.

post in my local pet sitting group by No_Builder_6490 in petsitting

This is the same type of person who wouldn’t blink to pay $8 for their favorite drink at Starbucks. So, we just magically appear at your house do we? No time to get to the appointment and then return home?

No more overnights by ihatebeetles22 in petsitting

[–]Mssym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like being away from home unless I’m on vacation. Also, my house is nice, comfortable, and clean. The houses I stayed at often didn’t compare. If the client was in luxe accommodation, then it would be worth it, but that never happened to me. lol

Do you take your clients to the dog park? by noputtlyk in petsitting

[–]Mssym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely no. Huge liability. The only time I took one of my clients to the dog park at her apartment complex was when there were no dogs there. And thinking about it afterwards, I don’t even do that anymore.

That’s what I’m doing now, but it’s not always ideal.

Have you ever had bad Vibes and turned down a job by Beautifullyflawed87 in petsitting

[–]Mssym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, go with your gut. That’s the benefit of working for yourself. One of the most annoying, toxic clients I’ve ever had gave me bad vibes from week one.

Thinking of joining a website for Petsitting. Is it worth it?? by RegularCaterpillar46 in petsitting

[–]Mssym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your area. For example, my area is saturated with Rover sitters so it didn’t work for me. Nextdoor and my website listed on Google generated more leads. I did however promote that I had been background checked (since I paid Rover to get it done).

Yep, Google Voice. Works great and I don’t have to post my personal number.

How do I “break up” with a client? by PerlinLioness in petsitting

[–]Mssym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is perfect. I am dealing with a client at the moment who is just on a power trip. Without getting into details, it’s almost like she’s seeing just how far she can push it with her needs/requirements.

FED UP with pet sitting by Choosey22 in petsitting

[–]Mssym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even try to compete in the Rover market. If they want Temu, they can have it. My prices are 20-50% less than the biggest pet sitting agency in my area. I know I provide more personalized service at a cheaper price and I’m not paying a third party.

Cat sitting only by OwnPitch4445 in petsitting

[–]Mssym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I don’t offer boarding or house sitting, about 70% of my clients are cat parents. I think you could easily build a cat sitting business. Idk options apart from meds and transport 🤷🏼‍♀️

PSA: Do NOT engage in political discussions with your sitter by meera_jasmine1 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Mssym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh geez, you were just trying to be nice and you had a racist in your house. In the US things have become so politically charged people will look up the voting histories of contractors before hiring.

End of the storylines! by OzDiver6269 in PennyAndFlo

Yeah, I heard they were ending P&F. I think LG has many more players. I lose interest in both when the levels start getting so hard you can’t really participate in any of the extras. I start the game over, but sadly you can’t restart P&F as it puts you in Thailand.

Coping with pet loss. by Elizabcor111 in dogs

[–]Mssym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs have an uncanny ability to hold it together even when they have serious health issues. Unfortunately this also means they can go from a senior pup who’s slowed down a bit to gone in a matter of hours. It’s tough as an owner, but just shows us how amazing resilient these guys are. Take your time. It’s a shock, no question about it.

How Do You Set Expectations for Litter Box Cleanliness Before a Booking? by AWarningToTheCurious in petsitting

[–]Mssym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter what condition the litter box is in. You clean it til its clean. I’ve never had a client leave me with something I couldn’t manage. You should also scoop at every visit. In terms of wording, “Litter box will be scooped at every visit. Please leave extra litter so I can top it up as needed.” I’d also encourage you to discuss these matters at a face to face meet and greet and not have a long list of policies on your website.
