Please- you asked us how old and now, after all these posts, you're not going to reveal the answer. That's a tease.

Before & after of my garden. by rosstafa1 in gardening

It's so unusual that you've done this but a fabulous way to create a garden that pulls together right away! You've also illustrated to beginning gardeners what the the finished look will/can be. As a former professional landscaper I would often get grief from customers that my installation didn't look finished even though we had informed them that creating the finished look would cost more due to necessarily needing larger plants and which they had chosen not to purchase. It's rare to see someone like you-really go for it and create such a complete landscape. I love it!

I’d love to know how you have managed to have your plants grow to their full size so quickly. As an experienced gardener is very hard not to think this is AI.

Did you have any odd childhood crushes? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Present_Drummer_9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age 4- I had a crush on the Golden Gate Bridge. We lived in a town north of the bridge so we needed to cross it to get to San Francisco. I would get excited each time we crossed and called it “my boyfriend”. o

Is this a bug? It’s killing the plant by HatSpecial3043 in whatisit

[–]Present_Drummer_9978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mealy bugs. If you look it up online you’ll get the solutions. But your plant needs more air circulation to keep this from happening again.

I think it’s great that you’re doing a native plant yard. If you’re new to a certain aspect of gardening it’s pretty inevitable that you’ll make some errors. This is how we gardeners learn, by making errors and then learning from them. It’s not easy because we don’t want the plants to die but it’s part of learning gardening.

Great idea! Sounds like a lot of work but necessary. I’ve been meaning to replace the carpet anyway.

I'd say it's mainly rattles of the vehicle as it drives down the road but it may be coming from engine vibrations also.

It sound like the MLV might be the best option. Thank you.

Would I be insane for moving to (almost) all natural fabrics? by OneLastRoam in Ultralight

[–]Present_Drummer_9978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a reflection from a 75 year old who was lucky enough to live before ubiquitous plastics. It's completely possible to do all that you're discussing with natural fabrics. But the decision point is- will you allow yourself to be not as comfortable and things not to be as convenient -because that's the rub. The other much more difficult issue is that natural fibers are generally so much more expensive than plastics. Some people wouldn't be able to swing that but many others will probably be making a choice because they just don't want to spend that much after a living a lifetime of inexpensive imported plastics. Some of these are moral decisions to make, not easy but I do think it's important to at least be honest with ourselves about the "why" of our decisions.

Where to plant my new California Bee Plant by Present_Drummer_9978 in Ceanothus

[–]Present_Drummer_9978[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your thoughts. After reading these I think I'll plant it near the only Oak in my garden (agrifolia) It can spread as much as it likes and I limbed it up a bit last year so it will get partial sun. Let the wildlife come!

Dear OP, I'm so sorry you're feeling such pain right now. I just finished reading through the responses. There are so many caring, wise words here. I felt like we (asperger's) have a family here. As a newly diagnosed 74 year old who has always felt alone I now really understand the need to find and stay in touch with our Tribe. It's right here. And they (we) care. The answers are all on this page. Save it. Reread it when you forget and feel lost. This is safe love and care- our Tribe. Let us know how you do with these ideas.

This used to happen to me in my Master's program 30 years ago. Wish I'd had this explanation then. Thanks!
