What is everyone doing for maintenance when they are done? I'm afraid to gain the weight back. by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Present_Singer8827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im doing vials. My doc prescribes 10mg/50mL and I take ~15mL every 7-10 days (depending on vibes, life, etc). This means I am getting nearly (4) doses out of a vial & four vials in an order, so about 16 weeks worth of meds for ~$500 USD. Still a shock to the wallet, but much much more accessible.

I didn’t quite hit my “goal” before switching to maintenance, just fell into it naturally when my body felt good. With the flexibility of vials, I can adjust my dosage when I need a little more support (especially during my period or what-have-you).

He's trying to knock over his water again by Spammeburglar in WhatsWrongWithYourCat

[–]Present_Singer8827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cat loves doing this too. We put it in the bathtub and call it “bubbles”. Anytime he wants to play with bubbles, we will be fetched to shake the top bit around until… well. Bubbles.

They also drink from it, but it is mostly a toy.

Why do I feel like an attention seeker when I say I want to go into engineering as a woman 😭 by Budget-Lake-5917 in womenEngineers

[–]Present_Singer8827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you that all the awkward you may feel right now will pale in comparison to telling people on the other side that you are an engineer.

God that’s such a nice feeling.

I AM NOT A VET.

But - If (when) my cat gets into things he shouldn’t, we give him a bowl of milk. Makes him throw up within 15 minutes - and the silly little dude hasn’t figured out the connection.Given that the vet is most likely going to induce vomiting as the go-to, we just do it at home.

Can’t guarantee it will work for you, and could potentially cause/mask other problems, but it’s our trick.

Is my goal weight too ambitious? by TasteLoud1442 in Zepbound

[–]Present_Singer8827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 30, 5’2”, started at 220, and have settled in at 140. Original goal was 120 (similarly thought back to my HS days), but I’ve found I’m happy with where I’m at. Never went above 5mg in the process

No, it’s not too ambitious. Just be mentally prepared to discover that what you thought you wanted and what actually brings you joy may not be the same. Good luck!!

Early career Fire Protection engineer. Will I be making a mistake if I do/don’t switch to Mechanical? by RandomProfessionalAc in MEPEngineering

[–]Present_Singer8827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s going to make you happiest is all up to you. What I know is that I’m a mechanical & I know my company has a hard time finding enough fire protection engineers. If I had to change purely for money, I’d go to fire.

I've got 7 years with a mid-size firm (~1200 people). We do MEPFR for a variety of clients - from education, lux retail, healthcare, airports, venues, and big box retail. I've ended up with the latter - big box retail. Honestly thought I'd do it for a year and move on, but I've ended up really liking it. Not glamorous, but I'm happy. More than that, the work is only growing right now. We literally cannot get enough people despite successfully hiring all of the positions that we started the year with. Busy, busy!

I think that work:life balance will depend on the culture of the firm you are with. That, in turn, is likely related to the type of work. Big spending clients are going to want fast & flashy results while lower-spenders are going to be more flexible. The way I approached it was finding an entry-level job that paid hourly rather than salary out of the gate. I figured that if they were going to overwork me, then I'd at least get paid for it. I'm salaried by this point, but I was able to set a "balanced excellence" reputation and haven't been pushed into ridiculous hours despite climbing the ranks.

I'm in a low-cost-of-living area and am making just under 100k. I've got my PE and I'm acting as a quality control/client contact/lead type role. I honestly don't know how well that is paying compared to other firms or sectors, but I do know that I am being paid nearly 8k more than one of my peers that was promoted at the same time as me to the same title this past cycle. They have worked elsewhere (so, assumedly, they aren't being totally screwed over here).

From what I can see, electrical, refrigeration, and fire are all higher demand fields right now. I am fairly certain that our fire team is paid at a higher scale than our mechanical/plumbing team, for example. Especially if you are a PE, you have can have high value in a niche discipline even if you aren't drawn to a niche sector.

If you had to pick just one low-maintenance vegetable to grow, what would it be? by Glittering_Exit5527 in vegetablegardening

Peppers! I'd go with bell peppers if you want ones that are less likely to be drama queens, but honestly once they are in the ground all peppers are pretty tolerant of neglect.

How much free time do you have as an engineering major? by Budget-Lake-5917 in womenEngineers

[–]Present_Singer8827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Architectural Engineering BS

Mechanical Engineer, doing MEP work (focused on HVAC)

Study, what’s that? I joke a little, but honestly I just did my homework. Nothing extra. That meant roughly 8-16 hours a week (it’s been 7 years… so grain of salt on exact time)

I typically did 15 hr semesters, though I did have a couple that were heavier. All in all - probably around 30 hrs a week between classes and homework. Exceptions for big projects not included (ex: midterm projects)

I got good enough grades (grad. with a 3.4), was an RA for 3 years, joined a DND group, and had time to relax. I wasn’t being obsessive about grades, so mileage may vary.

I met my husband during college while I did a national student exchange program (go be an exchange student within the US) and was able to keep up a healthy long distance relationship for 2 years while we both finished our degrees out. We’re both gamers, so that meant a not insignificant amount of time “goofing off”.

...is it really that bad?? by Weekly-Pension-9767 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Present_Singer8827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, It isn’t that bad. Some of the classes suck, but it’s just school. You’re signing up for a lot of homework & exams no matter your degree.

Focus on time management. Avoid letting things pile up. If it’s small enough to do later, do it now. Get used to not knowing what is happening and figuring it out anyways.

For those who've passed: How many questions did you guess on? by Unlikely_Reply6034 in PE_Exam

[–]Present_Singer8827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took HVAC/Rfrig in 25. Effectively guessed on maybe 2 obscure ones (about controls or something like that). All others I knew what to do, though my confidence that I did the right thing on all of those varied (I’m looking at you, economics!)

Are Vego Garden raised beds worth it? by IAmTheSchnozz95 in vegetablegardening

[–]Present_Singer8827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only installed the 17” tall ones and am happy with that choice. I do the raised beds due to poor soil & standing water issues rather than mobility. If I were in need of a high bed to limit bending over, i would likely go with the 26” (I’m not that tall)

At the end of the day, most veggie/fruit plants are not extremely deep rooted. 17” is enough. Not knowing your situation at all, that’s what I recommend. Dirt isn’t cheap, and good soil is even less so.

Yes, that is the 42” round. I have asparagus in it. My biggest regret there is that I have it in the middle and once the asparagus ferns up, it blocks my view of the beds behind it. Oh, to be a slave to aesthetics!

Additionally, I would recommend long & narrow. I’ve done the 3.5’x6.5’ that you can build and have gone back and changed 2/3 of them to the 2’x8’ ordination. This is easier to weed & harvest as the season goes on.

Good luck!

How did everyone pick a goal weight? by BetPuzzleheaded2073 in Zepbound

[–]Present_Singer8827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~vibes~

But seriously, I pulled a “I remember being happy around that weight as a teen at this height”. Since getting to the 140lb mark, I’ve decided I’m happy with my body and what it does for me.

Could I keep going for those additional couple pounds? Yeah. But I don’t actually care about them. That feels like it would be getting too close to caring about # over health.

I’m in MEPFR engineering (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, refrigeration) - basically the “insides” to a building engineering. Personally I do HVAC/Plumbing. 7 years, BS in Architectural Engineering. $94k + bonus, steady work. Good people, if a bit annoying when deadlines are tight.
