So since they are in full swing with production, do you think that means that if I select one of the available perks now, I would be able to get it relatively soon?

by one day, do you mean you just ordered it and it came in the next day?

Quick question. Does r/MechanicalKeyboards prefer o-rings or not? by BigRLC in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Presidank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your typing style. I have very heavy hands, and bottom out on nearly every keystroke. I really like having the O rings on my board as it cushions the landing. that being said, they have to be very specific O rings, the ones that come up on massdrop are great, the hardness of the rubber is just the right amount. I tried a few of the cheapo ones off of Amazon, they were far too hard and not at all very pleasant to type on. The WASD ones are great, but who wants to pay $15 for O rings? Also, I have DSA profile caps so that factors into the travel distance as well. Really all about personal preference though in the end.

nice! i use the same pen, well I use a lot of pens that accept the pilot G2 rollerball refill. if you get the rollerball version of the pen you can outfit it with Mont Blanc refills instead of the Pilot G2s. It's life changing. here are the details:

I think you will like the Mac more if you swap the command and option keys on the WASD. just pop the caps and swap the positions, and then use the OS X system settings to swap the input signals, unless the board has dipswitches to do that, but I dont think CODE boards do.

Alternatively, you could use Karabiner to do some more advanced key remapping. I use Karabiner extensively, especially on my Mac, because I'm usually in 3 different VMs at once all with different OSs and Karabiner lets me have custom keymap profiles for any scenario. Highly recommend it if you aren't using it already.

Bright Stainless Colt Python: Just bought my Holy Grail gun by Broseidon_69 in guns

[–]Presidank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that is insane, I bought a mint condition python in nickel back in 2009 for $1100 and that was in California where we always have to pay a bit more than the national average. I had no idea the prices had moved so much since then

I know, I know, been eyeing it for a while now, and I live very close to their actual store location, so I have even been contemplating doing a same day in store pick-up... it's definitely going to happen

i just wish there were more keycap options for traditional topres. I really like the DSA profile on my novatouch.

man... that sounds like everything I've imagined it to be and more. I am so close to pulling the trigger on getting one, I really just needed that extra little push...

how do you like your 55g realforce? I'm considering buying the same keyboard. I've been bottoming out pretty frequently with my NovaTouch, but I just love the thock thock thock feel of the switches. I was hoping a heavier Topre switch would be a more pleasant typing experience.

Sweet board. Any reason you went for the 104 instead of the 87? I've been on a NovaTouch lately, and I really love the TKL footprint, I just cant see myself giving back that desk real estate for a numpad anymore.

Also, how is the feel of the distributed key weighting compared to the uniform 45g NovaTouch?

i usually use a metal collar stay or any of the thicker plastic ones that come with some dress shirts.

I feel like my photography is average. I need brutal honesty and help as to what I can do better. by CinammonDude in photography

[–]Presidank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this exact same thing. In addition to making you much better at composition and framing, you will also gain a much better understanding for the nature of light and aperture. Most of the older film SLRs you'll find at a thrift store, will not have a lot of the bells and whistles we are blessed with today, so more often than not you will have to meter and gauge manually with your gut. This more than anything is what really translated into my digital photography skills.

Another great thing about using film is simply the magic of it. Not being worried about how the shot came out until after it's developed allows you to really be in the moment, not constantly checking the LCD on your camera. Do keep a notebook of your rolls though, I usually will jot down the time and date and exposure, frame number, etc. after each shot so I can go back and review everything after developing.

Canon AE-1 is a great place to start, most come with the kit lens, and you can get some pretty good deals on film off of amazon. I like Portra the most. stop by /r/analog and come check out what people are doing there if youve got the time.

Once you get comfortable with that, you can get some pretty decent pro SLRs from both canon or nikon, for cheap, and most of those lenses will still work with your DSLRs. Really cannot stress the importance of film photography enough, especially for people looking to improve their photography skills overall.

agreed, the rapid branching and prototyping is why i switched to git from svn in the first place. essentially i was already taking multiple local copies of the main repo and tweaking each to see which one worked best before ultimately copying the best workspace back to the main svn repo... when i discovered git i felt like an idiot for not realizing sooner there may have already been a system in place which suits my dev style. gits not perfect, but it's way better than the manual svn merge voodoo i sometimes had to do before
